Shipping and buying new in WA

HI we are hoping to move out to aus by the end of the year and doing the usual tally up of what to take and what not to take. Does anyone have any idea of what is good to take and what should be left behind? also, does anyone know of any good furniture places in WA? We have things like ikea, argos and supermarkets to rely on cheap household things, what's Australia's alternative? Any insight would be appreciated thanks

  5. Hi, what's the deal with house and land packages in Australia. Some of the deals look just as good and sometimes better than buying existing housing stock. I am again missing an obvious catch. What is it? Any info on the house buying market welcomed. Eg. Mortgages for immigrants etc. Thanks

    Best broadband deals??

Hello everyone, I am moving home to Aus start of Feb (unfort without partner - he will be waiting for visa to be processed) but have a rental property to move into right away in Country Victoria. I would like to get things organised almost right away when I return home and the phone line + internet is a priority for me due to the distance between my partner and I! I would like to get wireless broadband with a fair bit of download room. I'm not a serious gamer but use facebook alot and download music. Anyone have any ideas of the best deals going atm?? Preferably not too expensive, round $50pm.. surely there are some good bundles out there, I've had a look but I'm so confused.. Can anyone help? :confused:Thank you

We have flown with them before and they were great. I have tried various sites and the cheapest is £2553 with Opodo through Skyscanner (Emirates) Cant seem to get the same price though when I klick on BOOK?? Haven't phoned anyone up yet so was just wondering if there were any I might of missed in my search for a deal/bargain. Tried netflights, skyscanner emirates, thomas cook. Thanks Mandy

    Delish Meal Deals???

Hi All, Im a big fan of the Finest range meal deal for 10 euros from Tesco (its the same in UK only i think you only have it Mon-Thurs?. . we have it all the time here in Ireland cos we are now officially a poor cousin in Europe).. myself and oh are on a seriously restricted budget due to present economic climate.. so the lovely meal out at the local chinese is no longer affordable. We have embraced meal deals once a week to treat ourselves  On tonites menu; Steak Diane (sliced marinated beef, slow cooked for tenderness, in a rich sauce of white wine, mushrooms and double cream) Oven baked potatoes with smoked bacon and garlic (speaks for itself) Stir fried veg (not in the deal, paid 3 euros for this bit) Followed by: Individual slice of fresh Strawberry Cheesecake Accompanied with: Bottle of Sauvignon Blanc (just our choice, there was a perfectly palatable red also on offer) It was absolutely delish. The M&S meal deal is even better but our nearest branch is 50k away so we make do with good old Tesco. My question is .. will i have to say goodbye to meal deals in Oz??? Does any other chain over there do them??? Bon Appetit :biglaugh: Steph

  14. Hey, We are due to fly out at the end of December and will be looking to rent initially (West suburbs of Melbourne) Is there a choice of utility (electric/telephone/broadband) suppliers like the UK? or is there no choice- how do you work out who you should be with? In the UK i use moneysupermarket or equivalent to get the cheapest quotes for everything from broadband to electricity to home insurance. How do you go about getting suppliers and insurances in OZ? Also I have been told there is no TV licence in OZ and if you are renting a property the council tax (or equivalent) and water rates are included in the price of the rental? can someone confirm this? Thank you in advance!
  15. Hi There, Hoping to go back to the UK for a holiday in April next year. :biggrin:Anyone who hears of any great deals from Melbourne to any South East Airport in the UK eg - heathrow, stanstead, GTW please let me know. Not sure if its best to book early ...like now...or wait, but if a great deal comes along I will go for it. Many thanks Sally
  16. We are looking to fly our daughter over from Dec 12th to 27th to visit (Melbourne) but the prices are pretty crazy right now - most are around the £1100 or £1200 mark. We found a couple of places advertising below £800 but they were 'ring up to book' and of course the prices did not exist when we called. Is this just because its over Christmas? Are prices likely to drop at all over the coming weeks/months? My daughter has offered to try standby - has anyone got any experience of this as an option?
  17. I have been chatting with the owners of Murray River Country estate Pinjarra .They are releasing some new blocks with house at very reasonable prices .They are telling me house ,land packages for $322.000 aust for 275Sqmtrs of home ,block sizes 500mts sq plus .I don't want to sound like a sales man here ,because im not .I see so many expats come through our zoo and tell me horror stories of being ripped off .Call Wes on 0429195775.They are a family group selling here .I know house and land packages have been a great deal more here than that . I don't have a web page address for them .Peel Zoo | Wildlife Park | Mandurah |Western Australia has a link to them i think . Any way worth telling you all about these specials .All very nice and bush settings ,murray River as well Kangaroos to eat your roses . Tony ..Peel Zoo

  20. We've got a few quotes on removals and the general consensus is that we have 1 x 20' container + some excess. One quote reckons about 60 cubic foot excess at a rate of £5.60 per cubic foot. Has anyone heard of a better price for sea freight excess baggage for 60 cubic feet?
  21. I was just wondering if anyone has recently spotted a good deal on private medical insurance for permanent Oz residents (any local ads on the radio, tele or papers). I'm looking for family cover with most of the basic options, including hospital cover. Historically, I've seen companies advertise from time to time some special deals or perhaps that they'll waive the waiting period or disregard pre-existing conditions.
  22. Hi Everyone: Calling computer Wizz Kids & Trading Standards knowledge boxes... Removers are just about booked, so we need to get flights booked... So, for the past 3/4 days I have been trying to book on-line with Emirates for our One-Way flights to Oz....................:goofy: First I checked out all the possible combinations & found exactly the flights & routes we wanted from Birmingham to Melbourne, via Dubai, all non-stops on Airbus's to avoid our hated 777's, and got a great on-line price!:biglaugh: But if any of you have tried this process, that's where the fun seems to end.... I wonder if you have experienced the same problems??? The website is VERY slow, so frequently times out so you have to repeat the search process but this time can't find the deal, without repeating process several times:no:. Hours later, with much hair lost, with bated breath & much relief I actually press the button for Compete Transaction - please be patient.... it can take several minutes... Yes! I'm being VERY patient!! But NO! I eventually get an automated "Sorry, we are unable to process ticketing for this booking" WHY??? There's NO reason.... It gives me a number to call, (Not toll free) which I did, only to be assured any online booking problems are resolved & to try again... Which I did, with the same result.... This time I email copy of failed transaction to which I eventually get a booking ref & told to call Emirates reservation dept to conclude the transaction - (as the flights are reserved, but not paid for...) Which we did TWICE!!! And still NO JOY!!! What is going on??? Rep said the flights represent 2 different classes of Economy Class (Ughhh???! Is that MY problem??) and that I was on a Wait List??? Did I ask to be put on a Wait List, I don't think so! I explained we are leaving here soon so need to get this sorted ASAP to secure seats, baggage allowance (sort out onwards flights...) before we lose our phone service... How can an airline - or anyone - show you a price for a service & when you jump through all the hoops & complete all the necessary form-filling you get nothing just put in some holding pattern, without being informed of this, when you may or may not get seats where you want, at the price you agreed to pay, or even on the routes you selected... This does not seem right to us? I have again emailed the person who originally contacted us, explaining AGAIN our needs & am wondering if I call back after 6pm, as suggested earlier whether I'll be able to secure our seats then.... :arghh: Like there's not enough stress involved in moving at the Best of Times!!! Love Herbster.... XxX
