Thanks for reading this post, I am desperately tying to find out the answer to this and my agent is unsure. We are hoping to move to SA this year and have applied for a Skilled - Regional (Subclass 489) (Provisional). I currently work for a global financial company and my current job, although based in the UK - requires time to support many countries. my question is: if I was to continue working in this job but be based from my new home (in an acceptable regional postcode in SA) for the 2 years. Would it satisfy the requirements of the 489 visa? any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you

Hi I am a HR Manager hoping to gain a skilled Regional Sponsored Provisional visa to Oz. The AIM criteria for the assessment of a HR Manager talks about 'senior functional management' and stipulates that the applicant must; have reporting responsibility for a number of managers who themselves manage a further group of managers be the most senior functional person in the organisation Whilst I consider myself to be a solid HR Manager, I do not meet the above criteria since my organisation is large and is not structured in this way. Also, when I look at the ANZSCO criteria my skills and experience closely fit this criteria. Are there any HR professionals who have experience of going through this process successfully who can advise me. I don't want to pursue the application if I have misunderstood and 'HR Manager' means 'Senior HR Manager' and I don't meet the criteria. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. I have searched for this post and can't find it again. Addressing Selection Criteria - University Job Applications

Morning all Am just about to apply for my first role in Oz, at one of the University's in Melbourne. They ask for a CV, covering letter and a statement addressing the Selection Criteria. From what I gather this is giving examples and experience against the criteria, but just wondered if anyone has done something similar and been successful? I've got all of the experience they're after (currently work in a similar position in a UK university) - just wondering how much to waffle on for :biggrin: If anyone has any tips then I'd be very grateful...- 8 replies

hi, my wife and I have been saving to move to oz for the last year, her working in mental health and me an electrician with little work. lets just say its hard to save! we've realised that its going to cost a bit more to make the move than first thought. I was born in australia and recently received my ozy passport. We've been working on the assumption that a spouse's visa is the only way to go, however their are companies that will organise for nurses to get out there providing temporary accomodation and such like and we're a bit confused as to whether my wife can get on this scheme as I am effectively an australian citizen even though I've grown up here in the uk. We're just desperate to get out there asap and the way things are going its going to be adleast another year which is soul destroying, but that may be the only option. mone money bloody money! cheers andy

Hi Guys, Currently on a Subclass 309, Does anyone know if I can apply again (onshore this time) now that the rules have changed on 'long relationships' from 5 to 3 year (which they hadn't when i applied) so that I can become resident rather then having to pass my 2 year wait time. ( I now meet 3yrs criteria) Thx

Hi, We have been looking into emigration via ENS 121. The only thing I can't find information about is the specific criteria required on the part of the employer - does there have to be a certain number of employees, does the business have to be operating a certain number of years etc.? My OH has an offer for job + sponsorship but I can't seem to find out this info. Any help greatly appreciated!

Dear All Though I had done quite well with the whole visa lark. Have got my hubby skills assessed by Engineers Australia as a Mechanical Engineer, whch is on the SOL. BUT he is in the Army and this posting has him working in bomb disposal as opposed to mech engr. He also qualifies as a Engineering Mnager (but we have not skills assessed a it was by CDR and we thought we would go for the easier acacdemic swap for mech engineer). As the jobs are 'closely related' we thought we would be fine for the employment criteria of 12 of the last 24 months. So we come to look at the criteria for Victoria and it seems to be saying that you cannot use another occupation on the SOL if you have nominated a 'trade'. your job has to be in the exact occupation. Is Engineering a profession or a trade??? We are now not sure how to proceed as Perth's criteria is 7/10 years and we could prove this as we would just ignore his bomb disposal job (he has been in army nearly 18 years and always in Royal Engineers). Also we do not want to tell his boss that we are planning to up and leave so are not sure how to get the offficial reference without upsetting the apple cart. Anyone had any experience of using 'closely related' occupations... Any kind comments welcome. (Not loud gruff ones as hubby already thinks I am making it all up by the light of the candle when he goes to bed as I spend hours on the forums and every time he comes down to breakfast I have got something else to tell him....):sad:

Hi All I have the auto change detection set up for WA and it seems there is a change!! When guidance had first been issued (13/12/10 dated on my print out at home) for the 176 visa it stated work experience was 7 years. The new change states 7 years out of the last 10 years:mad::mad::mad: The Department of Training and Workforce Development - Skilled Migration Western Australia - Occupations in demand So if like us you are still waiting to hear the outcome of your application assessment I fear with every bone in my bod we will be rejected tomorrow as we have 6 yrs in the last 10!!! I hope this doesn't happen to us again we were rejected in 2006 because we only had 18months at the time even though our agent said they'll take you with 12 months...:cry::cry::cry::cry:

we have a small dilemma on our hands and i was hoping someone would be able to help.... we have to be in Aus this year at some time before the end of Oct as our visa will have expired... while we are still up for coming to Aus our kids are wavering a little...our son not so much as our daughter... the problem we have with her is she has a boyfreind who she has been with almost 12 months now, so she is having the teenage tantrums "of you cant take me from my freinds" i know they are young but he is going to try and knuckle down in his final year at school to further his prospects of coming to Aus eventually.... my question is, how old would he have to be and can he come to Aus without his parents....and is there a visa we can get for him? i hope someone can put my mind at ease

New Skills Assessment Criteria for Management Occupations

The AIM has just announced that effective immediately it is changing its criteria for management occupations to the following: Criteria for a Manager for the Purpose of Migration The Australian Institute of Management is contracted as an assessing authority by the Australian Government to assess senior management skills for applicants for the purpose of skilled migration to Australia. Managers are assessed against these criteria and not the functions of the general managerial occupations, as set out in the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). Guidelines are based on the level of work experience, training and qualifications achieved. To satisfy these requirements applicants must hold a senior management position and for your information the criteria used are as follows: Corporate General Manager [111211] A proven record of top management achievement over a continuous period of at least three (3) years in a position such as Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, President, General Manager or equivalent position. These position titles infer that the applicant: · Holds or has held the most senior management position within the organisation · Is the owner of the business; or directly reports to the owner/s of the business, usually through a Board of Directors; or reports directly to the responsible political Minister/Secretary if the applicant works in the public sector; or is a senior management consultant providing advice to client organisations at Board or equivalent level; · Is wholly responsible for achieving the organisation’s financial and strategic outcomes; · Would normally have had a proven and successful experience in a functional area of management prior to being appointed to the top job; · Has the final decision making authority over a wide range of responsibilities through delegation to several subordinates who would be eligible for assessment as senior functional managers under the criteria outlined below; Sales and Marketing Manager [131112], Human Resource Manager [132311], Engineering Manager [133211], and Supply and Distribution Manager [133611] A proven record in a senior functional management position over a continuous period of at least three (3) years, requiring the delegation of authority to several other managers/supervisors who themselves hold positions requiring the delegation of work to several other subordinates in supervisory, technical or skilled positions. These position titles infer that the applicant: · Holds the most senior management position within the applicant’s functional area of responsibility within the organisation; · Reports directly to the owner/s of the business; or reports directly to the CEO/senior decision maker within the organisation; or reports directly to the Department Head if the applicant works within the public sector; or is a senior management consultant providing advice to client organisations at CEO or equivalent level; · Has the final decision making authority over his/her functional responsibilities plus additional authority through subordinate managers in a range of broader responsibilities such as strategy and long range planning, finance, administration and public relations; · Is wholly responsible for achieving his/her functional outcomes within the organisation; · Would normally have had a proven and successful experience in broad range of responsibilities in management prior to being appointed to the top functional job; For all of the above occupations including the Corporate General Manager, the years of experience may be reduced if the applicant has qualifications in management studies or business administration assessed as comparable to an Australian Bachelor, Post Graduate or Master degree, or in a discipline relevant to the field in which the manager is working. This applies where the qualification concerned has been completed immediately prior to, or within the relevant time frame of years of management experience being assessed. The Country Education Profiles prepared by the National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition are the basis for an educational assessment. The complexity and size of the organisation will influence the assessment. The larger the organisation, the greater would be the responsibilities of the senior managers. Applicants will normally require senior management experience across a diverse range of functional areas including managerial authority over subordinates who are also at a management level. A manager at a senior level would also have a high level of discretionary decision making authority. Senior managers tend to manage departments servicing the overall operations of the organisation and where delegation to several subordinate managers involved in specific but related functions is required. The critical components in applying these criteria are the breadth and depth of the applicant’s own managerial responsibilities and those of the subordinate managers reporting directly to the applicant. The issue is that the organisational chart shows that the applicant supervises a number of direct reporting managers. The criteria for recognition as having skills equivalent to that of a senior manager make it clear that the person must be responsible for a range of organisational functions and to have such responsibilities at a level which is concerned with strategy and policy across the whole organisation, and not just operations. Our assessment is based upon a review of an entire career history, but with an emphasis on the immediate past three (3) years, and satisfactory evidence is sought of managerial progression through increased authority and responsibility of each position thereby demonstrating a period of sustained success. 2 more lenders have anounced that they are now accepting 5% deposit mortgages instead of 10% that they did require. Is this the start of more flexible criteria? Time will tell! Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Here we go again! My skills are on the CSL and my particular expertise is needed for the economic benefit of Australia. In fact, employers are throwing money at me in an attempt to secure my services, so in this respect I am very lucky. However, my 11-year old daughter has moderate learning difficulties which changes everything. Two years ago I had a family 457 granted with a health waiver because my daughter failed the PIC4005 health criteria on schooling cost grounds. However, the financial crisis killed the job and therefore the visa. During that process, I built up a good detailed knowledge of the legal issues surrounding visas, waivers, the MOC and so on. This was helped by striking up an informal dialogue with a top Australian migration barrister. I say all this because I don't want anybody to waste their valuable time explaining the basics to me. However, updates to the visa situation are welcome. For instance, do I have to have medicals for a 457? What other visa options could work? Since building my knowlege base, the health waiver has been signed by all states & territories apart from NSW. I've just returned from Sydney and I think they haven't signed simply because they are the most disorganised political team in Aus. I'll get to the point. I have a good job offer in Sydney with 457 sponsorship and they desperately need me for business reasons. Having informally discussed with the migration barrister, it seems that without the waiver there is no way to eventually gain permanent residency in NSW so I will have to turn them down. Before doing so, I would like to explore visa options formally with a Registered Migration Agent with the relevant expertise in health aspects. The barrister's fees are too high to get formal advice in writing although I'm sure it will be spot on; he's the man that RMA's go to when things get complicated. Can anybody recommend a top RMA? The good ones seem to be lawyers as well. All is not lost. I have an option in Perth to fall back on.

I got an email from SA, stating that my application could be processed under SMP if I am interested But something worries me, Apart of new occupation list, It seems that there are some new criteria being put by SA for application here is what they mentioned in their email "Note that to obtain an approval, your current application must include a Nominated Occupation that is on the new List AND you meet all the criteria under the State Migration Plan" Please advice What are the new criteria being put by them ? Regards

Hi There, Can anyone advise me on the best way to package all the criteria for a TRA application. I note in the application guidelines that documents cannot be sent in plastic sleeves or folders yet all this stuff needs to be seperated and categorised somehow. Are large envelopes acceptable !? The FIRB has changed the criteria from 1st March 2009 for people purchasing a property, while on a tempory Visa eg 457. If the property is to be your perm residence, then you no longer need to obtain FIRB approval as long as you live in the property within 6 months of purchase. This is to try to quicken up the house buying process.

Hi all Need some help please. I am a qualified bookeeper with exam papers to confirm this, also run a small business. Cant seem to find any skilled visas that match this criteria if there is any? I also have 2 kids and a partner and would like to no if being married makes a difference to an application. Has anyone sat the EILTS(ENGLISH) EXAM, was it hard Thanks in advance

hi all does anyone know if i were to find an employer to sponsor me on a 457 visa what criteria i would have to meet for the visa application to be accepted i.e would i still need a skills assesment or aqf 111, i have worked in finance for 11 years but have no formal quals and jobs i'm capable of are not on the SOL there are plenty of jobs advertised that i have the skills for but not sure how it works and I'm wondering if this is an option for us , thanks in advance for any replies :skeptical: Mon x

Hi to all, I was wondering if any one who has already moved to oz can tell me how much the mortgage companies lend you in relation to your wage, some poeple have said it is 5x your wage is this true?. I have been looking at houses and havnt got a clue as to what we could afford because I dont know the criteria. I have spoken to my boss over there and he has given me a breakdown of how much I will earn a week gross and net with and without O/T, and how much tax I will pay. so if there is anyone who can help I would appreciate it, I dont know if I am looking at housees that are way out of my price range.
