Hi all I am due to make the move to Australia in October and currently looking at the best ways to maximise our money on flights/ build airline points as my partner and I and my Mum and Dad will be flying to and from Aus as much as we can to see one another. Does anyone have any tips/ guidance as to how you do it?
Guest posted a topic in Money & FinanceDoes anyone use any strategies with flybuys, WW rewards, point attracting credit cards etc? I decided now we're here we may as well earn points for our everyday spending. Started off with Coles and have accumulated quite a few flybuy points. Also opened a Woolworths reward account and (as Coles and Woolworths are equidistant to me) shopped there occasionally (when they had the specials I was after), earning points on there too. Then decided actually we should focus on one strategy. So opened a credit card account that attracts Qantas frequent flyer points and will use the Woolworths reward card to transfer into Qantas FF points as and when earned. I use the credit card to shop there so double dipping I believe it's called. I pay the credit card immediately and it's only used for something I would have spent using a debit card on. I just wondered what others do. Do you bother with points ? If so, what do you aim for?
Hoops posted a topic in Money & FinanceHello everyone! I am having a bit of a problem with my UK based credit card - I have fallen into the usual trap of intending to pay it all off before the special 0% rate ended - and failed. I am on a residence visa but have only been here since January. I have a good credit rating in the UK - don't know if that makes any difference here? I am not eligible for another UK based credit card b ecause I don't live there but also it seems I can't transfer a UK balance to an Australian credit card. I am supporting 2 people on my modest salary so I can't afford to pay it off quickly and I owe about 3000 pounds. In the mean time the interest rate on my debt is now 27% and within a few months we will have to go home because it will be so extortionate we wont' be able to afford to live. Help! Any suggestions? Rachel
Hiya I have been reading a thread about repaying UK debts before leaving for Australia. I tried to get through every page of the thread but got bogged down in all of the comments about the banking collapse ... moral responsibilty to pay off debts etc! What I would like to know is this: If I enter into a DMP with my CC and Loan companies in order to try and repay my debts quickly (and stop the interest building), will this affect my visa application? I have no intention of running away from my debts but also do not want to be stuck in the UK for many years to come whilst I am paying them off without entering a DMP. Any advice would be very much appreciated xx
