  1. Hi, We are looking at moving to Sydney following a job offer. I have been requested to suggest a salary range. It is for a professional position. We are keen on the Coogee or Surry hills areas. Can anyone give an idea of cost of living there so that we know what sort of salary to try to negotiate? We have no children, and would be looking for minimum of two bedrooms. Thanks very much!
  2. Hello, I have accepted a job to move over to Sydney and will be moving in between 4-6 weeks. I have friends already living in Coogee and would ideally like to move in with them if possible (providing we can find a 3 bedroom place). They have told me that Coogee is a really nice area with a nice beach and good sports facilities. It sounds fantastic however my office for work will be based in St Leonards (North Sydney). I would realistically only be required to be the office 3 times a week due to the nature of my job however I just wondered if this commute between Coogee and St Leonards would be manageable? Does anybody on here do a similar commute and how bad is it driving through the city and across the bridge ? I could potentially use public transport but I understand that from Coogee it would be buses not trains so would still have to sit in traffic. I would like to live near the beach but at 28 and with a 'proper job' I dont think living in Bondi would suit my lifestyle. Although I enjoy going out at weekends I want to live somewhere with a less party atmosphere. Any advice on what the Coogee to North commute is actually like or any other recommendations of places to live would be greatlt appreciated. Thanks Graham
  3. Hi can anyone recommend a cleaner for a couple of hours a week and what the average rate would be? Coogee Thanks S
  4. Hi All, I'm moving to Sydney in a couple of months to a job in Epping but have no idea where to live. I'd love to be as close to the beach as possible and having searched the forums and spoken to friends Coogee or Manly would be ideal. Realistically are these too far to commute to Epping from? I will have a car but have no problem using Public Transport if it's quicker. Ideally I'd cycle but it looks too far to do every day. I'd probably be happy to spend an hr commuting each way if it allowed me to live by the beach...... I'm in my mid-twenties and moving on my own so am looking for somewhere fun and vibrant where I can meet other people. Any advice much appreciated, Cheers J

    Cost of Living in Sydney

Hi, Hope someone can help. Been waiting for our house to sell for a good few months now, hopefully someone coming to view it on Monday so fingers crossed. We have decided to live in Coogee and are currently planning money etc. We know our salary and rent etc. but can anyone advise roughly how much we would need each month to get by? We wouldn't want a car and there is only 2 of us so would prob need to know what the below would cost roughly each month: Public transport costs from Coogee to Tempe Food (would eat in prob 4 out of the 7 days a week) Gas / Electric Bills Water TV License? Life Insurance Any help would be greatly appreciated  Thanks, Jay
  6. Hi All PMed some people, but thought a general post would be good. In Coogee job hunting from tomorrow, anyone around for a coffee or drink, even better any get togethers organised. I am mid 30's, here with my OH on de facto visa. Irish but lived in london for as long as I can remember.
  7. Hi, I am moving to Sydney in two weeks with a working holiday visa as I'm 29 this is the last chance...basically I want to move to either Coogee or Bondi and I need some pro's and con's for them both to weigh it up properly. My friends back home have raved about Coogee but my friend who I am going with has a boyfriend in Bondi. I really want a community beach / travelling feel with a lot of fun, good night life...good people and transport. Can anyone help in making this decision easier?
