  1. My husband was a radio announcer for years (including work as a promotions manager and as a copywriter), he has since spent the last couple of years selling advertising / marketing (but always with a sales focus). He hates this - he doesn't have the cut-throat attitude needed and would rather have the client only buy what they actually need for their business, which isn't always the best for targets! He is wanting to get back into a more client-centered job once we arrive in Melbourne next month, we are thinking copywriting, marketing ideas, charity work or corporate communications (internal). With the job market being tight and me having already secured work, is it worth him finding a company he would actually want to work for and doing some work experience/offering his services as a consultant? Does anyone have any ideas of how to go about this? Thanks for your time,
  2. I am currently an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Co. I would like to move to Sydney but there are no opportunities to move within McKinsey. Does anybody know the salary levels at Manager level at Bain or Project Leader level at BCG in Sydney? What about locally owned boutique strategy firms? I would also consider roles within internal strategy teams in corporates. Does anyone have info on which companies have these kinds of teams and what the compensation data looks like (salary / bonus split)
  3. Both Free Spirit and Geoffrey Nathan are 3rd party companies who are used by some prospective employers as third party employers when applying for a 457 Visa. (This is normally for smaller companies who don't have experience with sponsoring and don't want to deal with the administrative hassles) Does anyone have any experience of dealing with these companies? Any advice or tips I should consider? I'm still job hunting but a few recruiters have given me the heads up that working with either of the above will broaden my prospects - any advice you guys have will be great.
  4. Equity Partner Positions (Management Consulting) I made the move out to Australia (via career stop in Hong Kong) at the end of 2009 and am very settled in Brisbane and working successfully as an equity Partner in an Australian boutique Management Consultancy/Business Advisory firm. The company has capacity for new Equity Partners in Brisbane (where I'm based), Sydney & Melbourne. This may be of interest to folks with the right experience and background (as Oz is short in this area) so if you've got 15-20+ years industry experience at Senior Management/Executive Management/Director level running a business, business unit or with significant P&L responsibility, have a background and wealth of experience you think would be valuable to business owners in Australia then drop me a line at richard.moss@eborders.net or PM me. The roles involve management consulting/business advisory into privately held businesses with annual turnovers in the range of $2-200 million a year and working directly with the owners and shareholders - so you need to be confident, know your stuff, have the ability to do the work yourself (no juniors to delegate to here) and have an honest/ethical approach to our clients business it could be worth having a chat. To be clear - this is not a development role for someone, you've either got the experience or you haven't and if you have, its really interesting and rewarding work! Finally, there's no "hiring deadline" and no pressure applied so for anyone looking to emigrate and not sure exactly when, where, or if the visa will get approved (been there!!) this discussion will work around that. It’s about having the right people when the time is right. Interested? Drop me a line and we can chat, if you're still interested I'll give you all the details and connect you with the managing partner for another chat cheers, Richard. P.S. we have smaller offices in Adelaide and Perth but I'm not wholly convinced that would be a good move for this type of position where it’s better to be close to some critical mass of other people but if anyone is dead set on those tow city's happy to chat as well
