    Laptop and mobile connections

Hi there! I'm thinking about buying a small Dell notebook to take with me on my 1 year working holiday trip around Oz. I already have a large Dell laptop but this weighs too many kgs! I want it for the internet, skype and store photos with external hard drive. Does anyone know how I would connect to the internet and which ISP is best to use? Also, on the subject of technology, how can you call home without spending the earth on a mobile? Is it best to change your SIM card or buy a new mobile? Fi

    visa connections lets us down

:arghh:  The below story is identical to ours: Looking at the reports about VC and what other people have been through; we have also been through the same and had lots of false promises and been told lots of lies over the past 2 years. They told us we would be in oz by this dec 08 at the latest, but when I have chased them up re our assessment skills; they said after a long time in waiting that it had been denied, due to my husbands trainning hours been short of the 900 hours required, by just 3 hours. This didnt seem right as he had done 3years in training as a cnc engineer and done the job for over 10years. We complained and they said they would re send it again with new references which we re did and sent off to them, but it seems it never got recent and they quite appropriately lost some of our paperwork sending it special delivery to a wrong address!!! When trying to get some answers all there phone lines kept going down and ******** **** kept covering for **** ****** saying she was in Oz fighting our case. No one would answer our calls or emails to let us know what was going on then we get a letter saying the business had closed down. We feel that over 2 years of our life has been wasted and just dont know what to do now or who to contact!!! If any one can help please let us know.... My husband and I signed up with VC approximately 18 months ago. They messed us round really badly from the start and told us lots of lies. According to them they finally sent our skills assessment in, in March this year. We never heard any response from this and we have been trying to contact them about it for weeks. Our emails where not responded too and neither where our calls. I finally got hold of ***** about 2 weeks ago and she said we failed the process, although I dont know why as our money should never have been taken if we where not suitable. We have not seen any paperwork to confirm any of this. My husband got on the phone and asked her to send back all of our paperwork. She gave us false tracking numbers from recorded delivery about 3 times, and then finally last week a coupe of my husbands qualification certificates turned up and nothing else. I emailed her and asked for a refund of our fees as we wanted to go with somebody else and she didnt bother to respond, and we have heard nothing till this letter turned up today. I am at a total loss about where to go from here. I simply do now know where our application even go to after wasting all this time. We too where promised by ***** that we would have our permanent residency through by January of this year at the latest and made arrangements accordingly. Come January I rang her to see if she had at least had the skills assessment back and she said not yet. Come March my husband rang her and she told him that our forms had not been sent yet because we where holding back the last installment of our fees. My husband had words with her because she hadnt done her job properly, and she agreed to send it, but she denied saying that she had sent it all along and basically called me a liar and caused arguments at home. Can anyone advise us what to do about this? I will print out the form you have recommended on here and send it in but is there anything else I can do in the meantime. Is there anywhere we can go to try and recoup the large amount of fees we have paid?

  8. Hi Ali has asked me to post a thread with the RMA's offers of assistance to keep everything together and to save having lots of posts going. It will also assist us RMA's who are willing to help to have questions etc all in one area. I have posted that i am willing to assist anyone who requires help and you can either e-mail me or pm me. I am happy to advise as much as possible and also to take on any clients who require this assistance. I am happy (as i discussed with Gollywobbler) to offer reduced fees depending on which stage of your application you are at. I have also posted below the posts form George Lombard and Veronika who have also offered their help, I beleive that Alan Collett has also been advised of the situation and i am sure he will be more than happy to assist too (Hi Alan). George and Veronika have advised on the 956 form which would be the first steps to getting control of your applications but not all of you may be at that stage. Those of you who are still at skills assessment may need to get in touch with the particular assessors involved and again, i am sure that any one of us will be willing to assist. I have put below instructions on the 956 form (this has been taken from the previous posting) but i thought it may be easier all under one thread. 956 Instructions To download Form 956 http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/956.pdf Fill it in by hand (or on the screen if you have Adobe Writer) print it, sign it manually, then scan it into your machine. If possible, save it as a .pdf file. If you have a CO and you know his or her name then please e-mail Form 956 direct to him or her. The format that all DIAC staff use is joseph.bloggs@immi.gov.au If you send it to the Branch 1 address, then look out for an auto-receipt from the DIAC machine. If it accepts something, it sends an automatic receipt for it. If it does not accept something it does not reject the e-mail with a "Delivery failed" message. It merely doesn't send an auto-receipt. If you have not heard from a Case Officer yet, please e-mail your Form 956 to the following address: branch1.docattach@immi.gov.au or adelaide.gsm.documents@immi.gov.au This is on the basis that you have applied for a Skilled Migration visa but no Case Officer has been appointed as yet. There is also a fax number for the ASPC + 61 8 8237 6629 If anyone has any other visa types, please me know and I will advise where the application should have been lodged. Posts from George & Veronika " George Lombard I have had a number of emails about the Visa Connection situation and can confirm that they are no longer trading. There may be sanctions you can seek but for anyone with a current visa application in processing you must immediately send a form 956 to DIAC terminating their appointment/appointing another agent. You must also confirm in writing to VC that you want your file secured, either by havng it returned or transferred to another agent. With respect to the form 956 we recommend you download it, complete it, sign it and then scan or fax it to the Department of Immigration relevant contact details (depending on the kind of application involved). Generally we find it difficult to give a precise fee for handling applications prepared by other agents, particularly where there are so many difficulties in file management, but in view of the discussion here and elsewhere it may be sensible to engage a new agent if you're not already at final processing, and to that extent I will try to come up with a workable uniform fee for anyone who can give me their TRN and password for a general skilled migration application. Please just use the email details below or the PM system. People who are at an earlier stage of the process may need special assistance, I understand that as late as last Friday VC was receiving refusals from Vetassess on the basis of undertakings made after these issues first arose. I understand from the form letter sent out to former clients that VC no longer has the funds to return to applicants. This could never happen with a functioning registered migration agent as by law we are required to maintain a trust account, however to the extent that VC did previously have an agent associated with them, the professional indemnity insurance of that agent should be able to cover losses relating to contracts established with that agent. Details of what insurance the agent held would be available from the MARA, www.themara.com.au . Cheers, George Lombard __________________ Migration Agent Registration Number 9681945 george@austimmigration.com.au www.austimmigration.com.au " Veronika 'Hello, Gill has just alerted me to this thread. We are also happy to help out as much as possible to get any applications that are now in a limbo state back on track, or to chase up things on your behalf. Please fee free to contact me via email with your details and I will try to get back to you asap (weekend may not be possible) to see if and how we can help. I will be more than happy to get in touch with the High Commission here on behalf of clients, and to help submit documents, check applications etc if it turns out that docs were not submitted. Or at the very least to offer as much advice as possible. I will also be happy to get in touch with someone at DIAC to alert them to this issue and to find out how they can help applicants who are now in limbo. But again, you will have to email me with your details and a form 956 may have to be completed. Justme I will pm you in a second. __________________ Migration Consultant Registered Migration Agent Number: 0301155 info@sortoutmyvisa.com ' I am sure between us all, and them kind members on this forum, we can help to get this mess sorted out. Visa Connections

Hi all just a quick update. V/C have been doing well for me after the big problems that i had with them they lodged my vetassess paperwork which is still goping through ( I have proof). But this morning all my emails have started to bounce back for both danielle and clare. Will be ringing them all day today to find out the issue will keep you all informed of any outcome. If you are with V/C i suggest you try them to make sure it is not just me who is having these issues. If you find anything out please post on here so everyone knows whats happening
  10. Hi folks, Long-time lurker on these forums from time to time, just registered and making my first post :-) I'm looking for an accountant, ideally in Melbourne, who's got some connections to the UK. I've been living in Melb for just over two years, but I've still been doing some work for my old employer back in England. This has all been done on a PAYE basis; so I've still been paying income tax and NI contributions while I've been away. I've managed to get the IR to confirm that I'm eligible to have tax repaid, but getting them to do so is another matter altogether!! I'm now looking to set up a company here in Oz for consultancy I'm doing here as well as in the UK. So what I need, I think, is an accountant on-the-ground here who can do company formation with their eyes closed, and also liaise with the wonderful UK tax office angels. I've asked friends, I've googled, I've got my fingers inky from Yellow Pages, and now I ask here. Anyone have any ideas?

    Out of Town Connections?

Hi Y'all: How pertinent is this Q, I don't know, but could be important for non-big-city-lovers! How are communications Out of Town??? Besides telepathic? Please all non-Big-City-Dwellers: how do you keep in touch with the rest of the world? Howz mobile phone coverage generally - (even in UK, coverage is not universal or guaranteed) Is there a choice of providers as in UK? Thinking of folks taking a Big trip X country, how do they keep in touch? Share your xperiences, please. TV: is it digital/analog? I notice lots of sat dishes- albeit that viewing can be painful to your health, as my vice is CSI, I need to keep my fix; so what r the available options? And Broadband can't live without Broadband, either these days.... What questions should we be asking/considering? ? Considering SA, Tassie & possibly Victoria (but rather not downtown Melbourne!) And what about $$$$costs?! Thank you Kindly, Herbster :jimlad: (Feeling a bit frisker today as it's not quite so wet up North, although still chilly 12C!)
  12. Couple of quick ques.... Are the telephone connections in Oz the same as here or do u need to get an adapter ... On the subject of kitchen stuff... anyone taken there spice cupboard contents with them? Thanks :jiggy:
