Hi all, We're half way through packing all of our stuff ready for the move to Aus and because our cargo guy speaks very lite English, it's difficult to get an answer for anything so I was hoping you guys could help? We have about 250kgs of stuff all packed into two metal chests and two Wooden boxes (just TVs in the wooden boxes) and the value is probably near $20k. About 4 items are less then 12m old (so I know we'll be charged GST on the $2k value for those. What charges are we going to incur when the cargo arrives in Melbourne? Gov website is confusing and hard to read on an iPhone (no other internet access!). I understand we'll need a Customs Clearance which costs and unclear amount. The shipper says he pays nothing other than the cost to GET the stuff to Aus - nothing else. Will we need an inspection or is that based on what our inventory looks like? There's no untreated wood or things of dubious origin. Any other costs? I don't want the stuff to rock up and we get asked to fork out $1000+. The shipping company we use is being imposed upon us for various reasons so changing shipper isn't an option :-( Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks, Stuart

Guest posted a topic in South Australia
Hi, I am John, I am a certified software tester [which is listed in south australia sol list] and have 3 years [not in australia] of work experience 2006 to 2009 later I went to Uk for masters in IT finished it couple of months ago. I have some queries about my eligibility. 1)My bachelors is electrical engineering and masters is IT, should my bachelors be related to work experience or masters related to experience is accepted? 2)I had work experience not recent until 2 years ago, should my experience have to be recent or is it fine having experience at any part of life? 3)Can I claim 15 points for bachelors and 5 points for experience? My age is 27 30 points IELTS score 7 10 points 3 years work experience 5 points Bachelors degree 15 points software testing experience State sponsorship 5 points Total 65 Please let me know where I can claim points and where I cannot, Thanks in advance. Kind Regards John -

Hi, I'm 14 and i am moving to Perth as soon as my house sells in the UK. just wondering if i went in July this year would I be in year 9 or year 10? I'm in year 10 in the UK and my birthdays on 30/05/95. Also, What exams do I have to do? I've jsut started my GCSE courses in the UK and have done a few exams but nothing major. do they have the equivalent on GCSE's on WA? I thought that the WACE exams were like GCSE's and A-levels mixed together? but I'm not so sure now! Btw, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section but I didn't know if it should go in the education or young peoples section? From Elizabeth xx

I am 41 and moved here when I was 17 . I still consider myself English. I have two australian born children aged 12 and 10. My parents are english as is their step-father ( their father is aussie)...I am all about choice with them my son says he is half english and will wear an aussie shirt as proudly as he wears an english shirt. My daughter couldnt care less....we are taking them in 2012 for 3-6 months to uk. Our home has lots of english picutres up sporting stuff and water colours ( not much aussie)....My father said last weekend in front of them ..." you are not giving them a balanced view of things, they are australian Julie and always will be" to which I replied they will eb who they want to be they are aussie but they have english heritage my dad refuses to accept this and says I am damaging them but all I am doing is giving choice and I dont put australia down I tell them I am lucky cause I have 2 homes..... thoughts ????

Im probably going to sound a bit Dopey but im really confused by all this application stuff and usually leave it all to my hb lol. We're with an agent and our Queensland state sponsored visa (176) has been approved and is being lodged now and just waiting for our medicals so as far as I can work out were quite close, am I right?? I keep reading how people are checking there applications online but how can I do this? Also how do I know if I have a CO?? Im finding it quite difficult to keep up with where we are in the process as our agent doesnt keep us that well informed, maybe just because there is nothing to inform us of but im getting impatient. Can anyone enlighten me please??

Hi everyone! We have been Down under for nearly a year and have now decided to take the plunge and apply for permanent residence! ( whew- deep breath)! We are currently here on hubby's 457 visa and are struggling to find out which pathway/s we can take to to acheive permanent residence ( I am finding the Government website less than helpful). Hubby has been offered another job here ( he has been in his current employment for the year) and they are willing to take over his sponsorship but we are wondering whether this would have any effect on the permanent residence application? Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated Twinkle

Ive recently started looking into which visas im eligable for and i really dont know, some look so similar. Im not directly listed on the skills list but have worked in my field for 4 years and have a degree and i am 25 and am looking to move over to Australia on my own. Ive been told work skills are not necessarily what you need for all visas. Ive been looking at the regional visas but still dont really know if im eligable. Hope somebody could shed some light on the subject. thanks.
