    Gaming PC (Part 2)

After careful consideration on PCMeals eBay page of a PC gaming computer, I noticed that I needed to buy Windows 7 for it, as well as the PC itself. I then looked into eBay a bit more, and found this: http://tinyurl.com/kd75uqt I think this computer might be better for me because it looks sweet and it does everything I need it to do. Not to mention, it also comes with everything I need at the right price. All I need now is to know, will this run 'Minecraft' and 'BioShock Infinite' at a high FPS. If you can help, it would be great. Thanks, CP

    Gaming Computer

I just moved to Australia with my two parents. They promised they would help me through the migration and help me stay sane. I've looked forward to the move to Australia, and now that I'm here, my main priority is to get a computer. You are probably asking yourself, "Challis, how the heck are you typing this post without a computer?", well, I am on my old laptop. I'm not looking for a computer like THIS. I'm now looking for a gaming computer. Considering this is my first post, I don't expect to get an immediate response, but the sooner; the better, I suppose. I'll post the stats I'm looking for down below, just in case you're a nerd who knows how to help me out. P.S ~ I'm on a budget of about $700. P.P.S ~ The two games I wish to mainly play are, "Bioshock Infinite" and "Minecraft." P.P.P.S ~ I'm looking for a brand-new computer, not used. Thanks... OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit Processor: Quad Core Processor Memory: 4GB Hard Disk Space: 30 GB free Video Card: DirectX11 Compatible, AMD Radeon HD 6950 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Video Card Memory: 1024 MB Sound: DirectX Compatible These are the "Bioshock Infinite" game MAX requirements, so a little less is fine...
  3. Hi all, I'm mighty confused! Please help I'm an applications programmer getting all my stuff together for a skills assessment by the ACS. I don't have a degree - only a BTEC national cert - but I do have 20 years experience and I'm not sure whether I should go for the standard assessment or whether to go down the RPL route instead. I'm tempted to at least try regular assessment first (as there's less paperwork!) and re-apply under RPL if I don't get through the first time... I'm not too sure which ASCO code to use. As things stand, I have 110 points which means I would have to go for state sponsorship (although I believe that I could get another 10 points if I do well in the IELTS English test). The general code for applications programmers is 2231-17, but there is a code on Western Australia's priority skills list for the particular technology that I use; it is 2231-79, "Computing professional - Progress". WA is the only state offering sponsorship for Progress people and having spoken to the WA government at a recent expo, I know that I'd have to be assessed under 2231-79 in order to apply for state sponsorship as a Progress specialist. I'm torn between the various options... WA is the only state that has Progress on the priority skills list, so I could go for 2231-79 and hopefully get fast-tracked into WA by virtue of taking the state sponsorship. But... I'd rather live on the east coast and I wonder if having a skills assessment as a Progress specialist as opposed to a general applications programmer might actually work against me if I make my visa application to a state other than WA. There seems to be a fair amount of Progress work on the east coast and I'm confident that I could get a job there but I don't want to get labelled as an out-and-out Progress guy if it might work against me in QLD/NSW/VIC. So... what to do? Regular assessment or RPL? Get assessed as a Progress specialist, take state sponsorship and live in WA for a couple of years? Take IELTS, get assessed as an applications programmer and go for the regular skilled migration visa? Thanks in advance for all advice, Tarby
  4. Hi does anyone have any experience on how long the ACS are taking to process a Skills Test ?? Mine was received by them on 9th Aug. No news yet. My allocated "person" has stopped communicating by email suddenly - just get an automated response. (ENS , 121) cheers, Richo.
  5. Hi all I am doing my skills assesment as a Computer and Network Systems Engineer (263111), as I dont have many qualifications I am doing a RPL for the ACS. I have completed everything up to the question : 3. Describe the design method you used on this project and the rationale for its selection. The project reports I have done are essentially a network/domain migration and datacentre design and build, however I am stumped by this question. Can anyone supply me with some advice as to what options I should consider for this answer? What design method might one use to design and build a Bladcentre (Vmware), SAN based datacentre? thanks Rich.
  6. Hey guys, I bought a new motherboard, it was faulty and I sent it off for warranty, but in the meantime I bought this Gigabyte socket 1155 P67-UD3R motherboard (rrp $220) as a replacement (I had urgent work and couldn't wait around). Anyway, the warranty covered the previous board so they've sent me a new one (Asus P67 Pro), and now I've got the Gigabyte lying around. It has been used for a grand total of 1 week, comes as new in the box and I'm selling it for just $100 o.n.o. If you're putting together a new computer, it's a really solid board with some awesome features (more info here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3764#ov) It's for pickup only, so if you're in Sydney and want a great motherboard for half-price, send me a pm so we can organize it! Cheers!!
  7. Are their any gamers out their who could offer some advice please. :notworthy: In the UK my son had a World of Warcraft subscription that lapsed before we moved. Now we would like a new subscription from Oz. He isn't bothered about keeping his old characters. Is it best to renew the old account and pay from uk account or to start a new one from here? Will his uk disks work with an Oz account? Is there such a thing as an Oz account? I tried looking on WoW forums and they seemed to suggest we'd have to have an American account as they don't have an Oz server. Any advice would be very much appreciated as it really isn't my area of expertise and I didn't even set up the uk one. I don't know if this is relevant, but apparently we have the expansion pack 'Cataclysm'.
  8. My first guess upon thinking of this would be to pick someone rich and good looking - but I think this would be rather dull. In computer games we get pleasure from the challenges we face and overcome - having it all on a plate would be like using the cheat option.
  9. I came upon this & thought I'd pass the Link on incase it happens to anyone on here. It seems that they come up with new scams all the time. So Forwarned is Forarmed & all that ..... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jul/18/phone-scam-india-call-centres

    Computer Hacking

Hi all. A question for all you techs out there. I am on a secure network at home, passwords galore etc, and never had a problem before. But recently every time I fire up the desk top or laptop (funnily enough not my iphone) a message pops up and says, 'Your broadband connection seems to have been compromised, it will be disabled for one minute'. However, after a minute or so, nothing, so I have to go through the whole rigmarole of signing in using my passwords etc. Not a great pain in the bum, but still annoying. I have the fella who installed my broadband coming over this afternoon to have a look, but thought I would throw this one out there to get as many expert opinions as possible. Please bear with me, I am a complete numpty about computers, so if you could use layman's terms, :wubclub::wacko:. Is it possible that someone (as has been threatened recently) could hack into my broadband connection, according to my mate, it is possible and I have seen him do some fairly frightening things with his stuff, he truly is a whizz at IT and it shocked me what you can do with the correct knowledge and nouse. Cheers Tony.
  13. Greetings everyone, Its my first post here, so pls excuse my writing. I have applied for 885 on 28th june 2010 and I am under priority 4 now. I have applied for new ICT Business Analyst - ANZSCO 261111 on 15th of feb in order to bring my file to p-3. Still waiting for outcome from the ACS. According to 18 march 2011 processing status the processing 2/09/2010 files for p-3 and visa 885(e-lodged). 1. May be after a month I will get my ACS skill assessment, Will I be able to my file to priority 3 as the time for that has already passed? 2. I am currently working as database support officer since last one year in Melbourne, Can that be helpful to move my file to p-3? 3. What should I do? Thanks in advance for you support Cheers Jatin
  14. We have been having a bit of trouble fitting our skills into the new SMPs. My OH and I are 25. I'm a hospital pharmacist and he is a network engineer. With our age we were having trouble as we obviously don't have years and years of experience. Pharmacists now need 3 years (I've done 18months) so we are trying to apply under his occupation. Brian graduated with a Bsc (hons) 2;1 in computer games technology in 2008 and has been working as a tech since (2 and a half years). He has gained some Microsoft qualifications, currently at MCSA working up to MCSE. We have signed up to an agent in the last couple of weeks (Thames migration) after some discussion they seemed confident about our situation. However since receiving brians degree transcript they're not sure his degree will pass the skills assessment. Does anyone have any idea if a BSc in computer games technology from the University of Portsmouth will count as a suitable IT degree? Thanks in advance :-)
  15. Dear agents we are not sure what and when the immigration dept is going to process our applications.many of us submitted the ACS new skills assessment to DIAC and moved from priority 4 to priority 3 processing. we contacted the immigration dept and operators told us different information 1.within the 6 weeks CO will be allocated 2.within the 2 weeks CO will be allocated 3.processing not commenced for the applications whos applications moved from priority 4 to 3? we are not sure what to believe or when we will get the information? any agent can you please confirm the information or processing from MIA or from DIAC relating our applications? i really appreciate your valuable time and answer. Thanks in advance.
  16. Just wanted to know if there are any pharmacists or computer professionals (NEC) out there who have applied, haven't had their application finalised yet and have a case officer allocated. The above two occupations seem to be the ones that were on the CSL, but are now not on the new SOL; the recently-released priority processing details state: "Applicants with a nominated occupation of Computing Professional (nec), Hospital Pharmacist and Retail Pharmacist, who have already been allocated a case officer, will be contacted directly by their case officer to advise processing arrangements." We have not received any contact from our CO, but were wondering if anyone else has, and if so what was the response and secondly has anyone actually contacted a CO themselves in this regard and, if so, what response did they get ? Many thanks
  17. Hi All, Sorry if I am asking questions that a million people have before me but please bear with me! Currently I am studying a Primary Education 4 year QTS degree and my boyfriend is studying a degree in Computer Science once we have completed our education and our 2 years experience in our respective professions we would very much like to move to Oz. Now I understand from the little research that I have done that Primary Teaching is not currently listed on the skilled workers list but I.T Professionals are on this list. I am naively hoping this may change in the next 5 years. Now for the questions.... Would it be possible for us to obtain a visa based on the requirement for his skills alone? In order for us to enter as a couple would be need to be married? Sorry if these questions are stupid but we really are on the first steps of our journey... I hope to hear from someone soon and thanks!

    Computer Shop

Guys n gals I'm visiting Perth on a business trip at the start of February and I have to buy an ink-jet printer. Is there a chain of computer shops, like PC World, in WA so that I might be able to check online? Failing that, can anyone recommend a computer shop in the immediate area of Perth CBD please? Thanks in advance

  21. Hi all, To those who are planning to send their documents by mail or courier to the Australian Computer Society, please note that the ACS has moved to new premises: ACS address The official notice of this was put up on their website only a few minutes ago, and the new address takes effect from next week onwards. This may be of particular interest to those who plan to use a courier service for delivery to their street/office address. Regards Peter

  25. Is there much of a demand for Home Computer fixing setting up repairing. General spyware, virus removal, Networks and advise for buying etc. I do this here and I get quite a bit of work just by word of mouth now. I was thinking of doing some fliers and see how things went. We are moving to Brisbane later this year. Just wanted any opinions on others that have done this or get fliers for similar. Is it popular in Oz for having fliers etc? I'd love to be able to do this and earn a few $'s to add to our income in Australia as my wife (Pam) is the main wage earner. Any tips or advice would be great Howard
