Seems to be a topical area of debate so how do we do it, how do we fit Australia into the UK? My way of thinking is, I treat each capital city of Australia as London for example, Melbourne equals London! And this is how I work out property prices, crime rates, etc but then it gets gray (working with Victoria again) If I live in Point Cook, it’s just over 20 kms away from the CBD, 40 minutes by car peak hour and about 35 minutes by train. So if I lived in London, living 20kms away would put me in area X, being 40 minutes away (travelling by car) would put me in area Y and travelling 35 minutes by public transport would put me in area Z. Now be honest what would be the fairest way to compare? On distance, traffic time or public transport times. Could I buy a 4 bedroom house in one of these areas for $350,000 Australian dollars? If I lived in Carlton walking distance into the CBD I’m looking around $1,000,000 for a 4 bedroom home but I could buy a 3 bedroom home for $590,000 (link below) http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=106328783&f=0&p=10&t=res&ty=&fmt=&header=&cc=&c=50515684&s=vic&snf=ras&tm=1267535336 It seems people are looking in cheaper areas of the UK and then trying to compare them to inner city living, which I don’t think is right. So working on my theory how far do you live out of London and what could you buy for your money living the same distance in any Australian capital. If you live in Wales, Scotland, Ireland work it out from your capital. I think it would be interesting to see just what you could buy for your money, Like for Like (doesn’t matter what the area, even if you don’t want to live there)

l would like to alter m OH's cv to make it more aussie friendly and therefore want to put a note against his uk qualifications to show the equivalent in aussie terms. l have registered on the australian government - country education profile site (paid small fee for this too) but either its not helping much or l cant work it out  It shows all the UK qualifications past and present (including OH's) but no comparison. We have our visa, therefore TRA bit also and queensland plumbers and drainers board confirmed he would automatically qualify for provisional licence (without test apparently?) Can anyone offer any advice on where else to look, if l'm doing it wrong (quite likely) etc Lyn :wideeyed:
