  1. Hi! It's me again, back with another subjective question! We are looking at Adelaide in terms of a place to live when we move back to Australia, and I wanted to get your opinions on popular suburbs around the city, and good cafes/pubs/food & drink, preferably in Western areas relatively near beaches. I am aware that what counts as a 'good' suburb or place to live is highly subjective based on who you are, in my case; a 17-year old, a 15-year old (me) and a 50-year old, but I just wanted to see what you guys think are some good places to look at. My mum is an Occupational Therapist who is looking for areas in Adelaide that will be good for jobs in Voc Rehab and similar jobs. The suburb/area doesn't necessarily have to be ideal for teenagers, as we aren't particularly interested in shopping, clubbing etc just yet. Personally, I would like a place that is accessible to local cafe's and takeaways, somewhere I could hangout with my friends. I've seen that there are trains/tram lines within the city and surrounding areas, so I could always use those to go to museums, pubs, libraries and other public buildings. Of course, who doesn't love the beach? In an ideal world, we'd want to live somewhere relatively close to beaches (walking or biking distance ideally, but having to drive/use public transport is fine too of course!), whilst also being able to hop in the car or on a bus/train and drive to more urban public places. Seeing as I am 15, I will be needing to go to a highschool in Adelaide, so a suburb relatively near to a good highschool or with school buses would be great haha I know this is all really subjective and vague, and entirely dependant to what you look for in life, but basically I'm looking for your personal top picks in places to live in Adelaide that were/are good for you, as well as places that seem to decently cater for a person's needs in most aspects of life (nature, entertainment, jobs, education, food & drink, public transport, recreation). Any recommendations at all are appreciated! And again, sorry for the subjectivity of the question.

college 16 17 year old son

We plan to move over before Christmas on a 457 whilst we put in for permanent residency. My son is doing GCSE's and wants to do plumbing, welding or sports but doesn't want to go to university. Are there any courses or colleges he can attend? Or could he work? He will be 17 in February 2015. Not sure he is going to have many options so im worried. Other children are 3,4 and 11. Possibly going to Queensland but nothing define. Thanks.

    Private colleges VS TAFE

Which is better? or does it make a difference?
  4. hey! any good state colleges near these areas? berwick/narre warren or somewhere around here? thank you
  5. There will be a seminar and education fair held on 1/5.
  6. FEDERAL Education Minister Julia Gillard will press ahead with plans for a national vocational education regulator, despite the refusal of Victoria and Western Australia to sign over their powers. The Government will legislate next year to create the regulator, which will accredit colleges, including those offering courses for international students. Finally, though WA probably wants to retain control re. mining industry training etc., Victoria because they are incompetent in regulating dodgy colleges....
  7. Hi ALL, Anyone have any experience or info about the Senior Secondary College sector in ACT? I have downloaded their curriculum, and think it is very close indeed to our Sixth Form Colleges, especially the Edexcel BTEC Nat Dips. Would love to hear from anyone who works in that sector, as it seems ACT are the only state to have this system. Would an FE teacher / lecturer from the UK (i.e. without QTS) be able to work in this sector? By the way, I am an Australian Citizen, so I don't need to go down the skills visa route!
  8. Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site and getting myself a bit confused!!! I've been reading some threads on Hairdressing courses in Australia and I'm looking for advice from anyone that has completed a course in Sydney. Could anyone recommend a college in Sydney, I believe the best college to enrol in would be one with a salon so you get the work experience required - I'm eventually hoping to obtain a PR to be near my brother in Sydney. Sorry I know there has probably been lots of threads about hairdressing but the further I read into them the more confused I get  Thanks Lesley
  9. Just read this in The Age online about the potential impact of a review that is being conducted at the moment of certain (not all) colleges that cater to international students. Looks like some may close. Training college turmoil looms Sandra

  11. Hello, Just wondered if anyone knows of any colleges in the Gold Coast/Brisbane/Sunshine Coast areas where I can do the course that turns my UK quals into the licence I need as a plumber? I just want to check dates of courses etc and see what I can get on so I can plan when the best time to move over would be. Thanks, Daz (posted by me whilst he lounges about in the bath - don't know what his other slave died of....... C x)
  12. Hi We are moving to Canberra in August with our 16 year old daughter. She has just taken her GCSE's so would be taking A levels if we were to stay in the UK. Could anyone please advise on the best colleges in canberra . I have heard of Narrabundah and canberra college but have no idea if there are others and how good they are. Also is there an equivalent to A levels? We have heard that a couple of Colleges do Interantional baccalaureates which may be another option. Any help and advice would be gratefully appreciated
