  1. Hi All, I am currently in Australia on 457 Visa and have been living here for more than a year. I am planning to apply for 189 visa and can claim 70 points. However, I am suffering from mild Ulcerative colitis since 8 years. I am on regular medication i.e. Mezavant(Mesacol OD) and Imuran. Last year I incurred approximately $5k-6k on Doctor consultation, Colonoscopy(This is required once in 5 years) and medicines(private insurance reimbursed most of the cost incurred), so over a 5 year period, the cost will be less than $ 40k. I have never had any surgery, and have been in remission for nearly 3 years. Has any one with IBD or any chronic disease on long-term medicine got their 189 visas's granted?
  2. Hi all Yesterday I was shocked to be diagnosed with colitis. I dont think I have it badly, as feel well in myself etc and am still at work/at the gym etc. My OH has just passed his Vetassess practical in carpentry, and we were planning to apply for a 175/176 visa on 1 July. My question to anyone out there is whether my condition will stop our migration plan in its tracks. Dont want to waste 5k on applying, if it is known that they wont accept me, but equally dont want to fall at the first hurdle. Having only had this disease for a coupla months, I guess its difficult to say how the condition will effect me long-term, so am worried about how to prove anything to the medics. That said, the rate visas are getting processed, it could concievably be 2 years before my meds are requested, right. By which time, more would be known about my condition, I guess. Any advice gratefully received! Many thanks...:embarrassed: Tig
  3. Does any one know if these illnesses affect your visa applications? I have had UC for 8 years now and thankfully dont suffer flare ups to often. However I am on medication (Asacol) to control it. Could this affect any medical insurance that I would need?

A friend of mine wants to know what the chances are of getting through the meds if one of the party suffer with Colitis. Does anyone have any info to help her. Have you or do you know someone who has passed and been successful in getting a visa? Thanks

    457 Granted..

...in six weeks...Hooray! And that with the Case Officer being on holiday for the last two weeks (Didn't tell anyone though so when emails from our Agent went unanswered mild panic set in!). We were very nervous as I have Ulcerative Colitis - a chronic condition that I thought might put a spanner in the works - something I've had for 10 years that flares up every now and again. But a letter written by my consultant I took along to my medical seemed to do the trick. I've only seen a couple of mentions about this condition on PIO but not heard of any outcome - hope this info helps someone in the same position in future. Sydney bound..!:jiggy:
  6. Can anyone explain the process for people who have chrones or colitis, when applying for a visa. If possible, do you know if the hospital services in oz are private or state run. As a long term sufferer of chrones I now take infliximab every 8 weeks at a cost to the UK tax payer of £1800. Do you know if I would have this to pay for in oz and if it is even available. Cheers Teejay :goofy:
  7. Hi all - just wondered if anyone has got through their medicals if they have active colitis or chron's? My OH has recently been diagnosed with Chron's Colitis and will be on medication for the rest of his days so we are now really very concerned about the medicals. Any advice would be gratefully received! Thanks Em
