Hi, My family and I are moving to Melboune in August and we are looking at where we want to live. I am going to be working at Coles Head Office on Toorak Road and wondered if anyone knows how long it will take to drive there from Point Cook? Thanks

Australian woman finds live rat in a loaf of bread An Australian woman said Thursday she was horrified after finding a live rat nestled inside a loaf of bread she bought at a supermarket Brisbane: An Australian woman said Thursday she was horrified after finding a live rat nestled inside a loaf of bread she bought at a supermarket. The woman, who had been shopping in Aitkenvale, in Queensland's tropical north, noticed there were holes in the sliced bread as she was packing her bags into the car. "I said to my friend, 'this bread's got a hole in it, it looks like a rat's eaten into it'," the woman, who asked not to be identified, told the Australian Associated Press. When she lifted the bag out she found a live rodent had chewed through the packaging and was lurking inside. "The thought of a live rat in my loaf of bread and so close to me was pretty gruesome," she said. "I didn't want to vomit, I just wanted to throw it away, I got all squeamish." Pictures in the Townsville Bulletin newspaper showed the rat inside the loaf's plastic packaging. The woman took the bread back to the supermarket after the discovery Sunday but they were reluctant to take responsibility, she told the newspaper. "It came from their shop but they are saying it was in the bread before it was delivered to the shop," she said. A spokesman for Coles supermarkets said the incident was "obviously concerning" but isolated and the company would investigate. Townsville City Council Environmental Health executive manager Gavin Hammond confirmed a complaint had been received. "While it's virtually impossible to ascertain where the rodent came from, the council takes public health very seriously and has carried out an inspection of the supermarket and the bakery," he told the Bulletin. "We are satisfied that they have complied with all health requirements." Sliced for me from now on me thinks lol

Hi Just wondering if anyone on here works or knows of anyone who is working in management for Coles? If so did you contact them before you left UK or once you had arrived in Oz? Any advice greatly appreciated. Emma x

Finally, we have pampers in oz. They are on offer in coles at the mo and it says that they are exclusive to coles. Now it had been a while since I used pampers with my boys and had to put up with second best in huggies. While these were the best here in oz, i always used pampers in the UK as they were better than huggies. I am still impressed, even though the design has changed, they are ultra thin and still as absorbent. Julie

The competition watchdog's second GROCERY choice survey has found Coles is still the cheapest supermarket in most regions across Australia. The September survey found Coles was the cheapest in 40 of the 61 regions surveyed. But the supermarket giant's margin has dropped slightly compared to August, when 52 of the 61 regions showed Coles as the cheapest. The price difference between Coles, Woolworths and the independent supermarkets has narrowed as well, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. "GROCERYchoice helps consumers find out something supermarkets won't tell them, who is the cheapest overall," Assistant Treasurer Chris Bowen told AAP. The latest figures showing Coles was still cheaper in two thirds of all regions showed that GROCERYchoice was "helping consumers to make well-informed decisions", he said. "This is vital information that consumers can throw in the mix - alongside the quality of goods and customer service - before they decide where to shop," Mr Bowen said. "Another benefit of GROCERYchoice has been to increase competitive tension in the grocery sector, driving the consumer dollar further." The latest survey found ALDI was still the cheapest for a "basic staples basket" - the only basket for which ALDI's products are featured because of its small product range. GROCERYchoice publishes the average prices of grocery "basket" categories at supermarket chains across Australia, using 500 products typically bought by Australian households. The baskets include meat and seafood, fruit and vegetables, dairy, breads and cereals, drinks and other snacks, general groceries, household and personal care. The price of the basic staples basket is calculated from a range of staple products from the other baskets. To stop price manipulation, individual product prices are kept confidential and the products surveyed are rotated.

Hi there, everyone.... This thread is aimed at the lucky ones, who are already in Oz. Can you let us know your impressions of Coles? My Hubby works for Tesco in the UK, and has for 23 years. He is coaches Store Managers on filling their Stores, having been a Store Manager for the last 14 years. Obviously, over here, we are spoiled with our salary, overall package, car, Pension, SAYE, shares, etc., etc. We have contacted Coles, regarding Steve being sponsored to go out and work for them, and are awaiting a response. Just wanna know what everyone thinks of them really... Thanks Guys! Have a super weekend. Andrea x x x :notworthy:
