  5. I'd just been for an interview in Resevoir St, Surry Hills, and went for a walk - Love looking at the little streets in Surry Hills with their terrace homes. Anyway, passed a window cleaner just landing back on the pavement in his 'bosun's chair.' I said to him, 'I'm looking for a job but please don't offer me one!' He laughed and said....... I told him how I stayed at Luxor in Las Vegas and picked the top floor because I could not see any balconies. But when I got up to my floor realized that there was a shear and overhanging drop because it was the INSIDE of the pyramid. Funny how people on here say 'Aussies are this' and 'Pommies are that' implying a difference but to me it's just the way individuals are. I stopped to talk to another bloke outside a construction site, asked him what they were doing? He was a Pommie but not the slightest bit interested in talking to me, unlike the Aussie window cleaner!

    Regular Cleaner

Hi, I've decided to create a topic as I wanted to know if anyone has recently decided to get a cleaner. Certainly not something I would have thought about in the UK! I've been here a few months now and have moved with the GF into a place where I doubt we're really going to have the time to clean everything. It's a great place and I think I owe it to myself to keep it clean but with my work and her study being at odds we don't have much time together - as a result I am considering getting a cleaner. What can I expect to pay? How can I take steps to ensure the person is going to be reliable/trustworthy? How often do you get yours in? Also - would I be able to get someone that does Ironing too? Or am I wishing for too much?! I look forward to hearing your replies! ~Tyler

  10. Hi everyone! I've been in Melbourne for 5 months now and am loving it, but spending too much time indoors ironing and cleaning and not enough time enjoying the lovely Australian lifestyle! My boyfriend and I are looking for a cleaner to help us out, and we were wondering if anyone had a recommendation? We have also just booked our first trip back to the UK, so it will be interesting to see how we feel about Melbourne after a trip back home! Thanks, Katie

How to find a cleaner in Canberra?

Any tips on finding a regular house cleaner in Canberra. I just rang one of the big agencies and they quoted me 118 bucks for 3 hours, AND they have a four week waiting list! Can anyone recommend anyone- there are heaps of people out there but at that price I'd like to know they are (very) good.......
  13. After months of applying for Admin jobs, with no luck, I have finally given up!! So Im thinking of going it alone as a cleaner....... !!!!! :jimlad: The administration qualifications I gained in the UK (NVQ's) while working for the civil service ar'nt really recognised here in Oz. Although they obviously use microsoft, excel etc., they have different computer programmes here and they obviously want you to have experience in it..... I have spoke to lots of Poms who have had the same problem too. You can take courses at the local college but you have to pay ofcourse, and technically you still dont have the experience. Lots of admin jobs here require MYOB (a basic invoice/accounts software) and even the medical reception and school admin jobs have to deal with accounts aswell. So, if anyone in the Mornington/Mount martha area is busy working full time and needs help with the household chores, feel free to contact me. Thanks Sally-ann

    Carpet Cleaner / Fitter

Hi folks Got a problem that seems similar to others and was wandering what the latest news and experciances was of the AQF level 3 in Floor finishing, the latest threads I have read sugest that the course can now be Iv'ed in the UK ? Heres my problem been a qualified carpet cleaner from 2000 - 2003 then spent 2004 traveling mainly oz, got back to the uk 2005 with the impression that I would move back out but was in no hurry due to family comitments so started my own business carpet cleaning, fitting, hard floors etc, but invested mainly in the cleaning, now my situation has changed and my partner and I want to move out asap. But with no paragraph D thingy since last year the qulifications shouldent be to hard to achieve but not sure on my experiance, I know this has been covered a few times but would be realy interested in how people are dealing with this. all the best James
