    Bacon, sausages and chocolate

Hi all Well I've been in Sydney 3 weeks and loving it but there's a few things I need to address in the way of food! 1. What's with the bacon here? It appears to be cooked - i.e it looks like ham, the same shade of pinreally k. Whereas, we all know that Danish bacon at home looks raw and more like pork. It's putting me off buying it, what's the reason for this?? Pork and other meat in Coles or whatever looks normal. 2. Sausages - they are non existant. I feel the need to tell all Aussies their sausages are disgusting, processed, not even pork, who knows what they are?! Anyone know where I can get a normal sausage?! I asked a guy for a sausage and bacon roll the other day and he looked at me like I was stupid! 3. Oh no, why are Cadburys embarrassing us like this over here!! It says Cadburys on the packets but what I taste inside makes me sad! What's going on?? Am I ever going to taste real dairy milk again?? I cant understand why all other countries in the world can't make chocolate like we do. They have all the ingredients!! Sure, Belgium and Switzerland have a good go but no one else, and I've been to a fair few countries, produces choc like us. Why oh why?? Also, why is everything so bloody expensive here!! What a rip off - small bottle of water (in one of the hottest countries on Earth) $3... what the?? Cheers

    Chocolate Peppermint Cake

I baked this yesterday. To get an idea how it tastes like, imagine After Eights as glaze over 4 layers of cake with a mousse filling in between... all infused with minty goodness. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
  3. The proof is in the pudding they say. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera to provide the proof. But no more!! I am now a proud owner of a camera and have done some more research. People are using crackers to form the base of the cheesecake but I shan't be doing it. I am going to mix and match recipes from various sources. But before I do the discussion, I will need to provide the recipes so you know what I am referring to. ------------------------------------------------------------- Chocolate Lava Cake: 250 gm butter 250 gm semisweet chocolate 5 egg whites [NOTE: The original recipe calls for 70 gms sugar ONLY but I found that a bit limiting...) 1 cup castor sugar (separate out 70 gms for whipping the egg whites and dissolve the rest into the chocolate mixture; I used Lindt 70% Dark Noir so added two more tablespoons of sugar) 60 gm flour 1 tsp vanilla extract Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees. Combine butter and chocolate on a double boiler. Meanwhile, add sugar and vanilla to whites and beat till volume becomes double and it 'runs down in ribbons'. When the chocolate gets done, [ADDED by me: mix in the sugar left over from the whipping,] take off the boiler and mix the flour thoroughly. Fold egg whites into the chocolate mixture and bake for 12 mins. The result looks like this: To give credit where credit is due, I got this from here: http://videos.mid-day.com/Make-melt-in-the-mouth-Chocolate-Fondant.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheese filling: I'll use the filling recipe given here: http://www.my-cheesecake-recipes.com/Chocolate-Cheesecake.html but I'll add two teaspoons of lemon juice and subtract the chocolate. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now here is the plan. I'll subtract the flour from the lava cake recipe above to give it a really gooey texture. And as noted above, I'll add two teaspoons of lemon juice to the filling and subtract the chocolate. The flourless lava cake shall be the base, and the chocolate less 'lemony' filling shall go on the top and the whole thing shall go into the refrigerator to set. QUESTION: What effect do you think will subtracting the flour have on my base? Do you think it will acheive the nice gooey texture I want? Do you see any major pitfalls in here??? Quick response needed since I need to go out for my mum's grocery list and want to do my buying in the same trip...
  4. Hi Just Wondered has Anyone Ever Shipped Chocolate ,Curry Sauce Or Tea Bags As All The Above Don't Taste Great in Oz And We Irish Love Our Tea!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Ok I know this is getting silly, but I want a recipe for white chocolate cheesecake and I can't choose from the hundreds I've found. Preferably with Mangoes too (I've got a couple of bags of frozen chunks to use up) If we can come up with 100 recipes that'd be amazing

    Worlds Largest Chocolate Bar

12,290 pound chocolate bar they created to set a new Guinness World Record Chocoholics should book themselves tickets to Chicage pronto – because it is currently home*to the world’s biggest chocolate bar. Well, until it gets a good nibbling... The World's Finest Chocolate company has broken the Guinness World Record with a sweet treat weighing 12,000 pounds, measuring 3 feet high and 21 feet long. Sweet! It is thought that this gooey effort has broken the previous record-breaking choc bar by a ton. And the recipe certainly*contains more ingredients than can be*squeezed into the average mixing bowl too, with 1,200 pounds of almonds, 5,500 pounds of sugar, 2,000 pounds of milk powder, 1,700 pounds of cocoa butter and 1,400 pounds of chocolate liquor all included. Despite the mammoth proportions, the vast bar was made to illustrate 'portion distortion' to school children. A spokesman for the company said: “We purposely made this bar to be an example of ‘portion distortion’. “We're committed to educating families about eating right and staying active and doing it in a fun and engaging way.” Of course. And a very worthy campaign... but... Anyone else hungry? It'd be a crime to let it go to waste...
