    Doubt has changed to excitement!

:chatterbox: In two weeks and 20 minutes we'll be taking to the skies from Heathrow on our way to Brisbane (via Hong Kong). We've got three nights in HK then on to Brisbane, with temp accommodation booked for the first 6 weeks. Today the doubt and sick feeling has changed to excitement and I can't hold it in! :arghh::arghh::arghh::jiggy:

  5. Hi all, I was just wondering if anybody who moved to Australia has changed their career completely from the job/skills they originally came out with? Or has become self-employed? It would be interesting to see what kind of changes other people made, after all, most of us emigrated out here with a specific skill that was required for PR. I am thinking of a career change and would like to become self-employed and move away from the city to an area which we love, but there are not much jobs available.

  7. I have had to work hard on my aussie hubby over the last few years...he was a tramp and a beach bum when I met him and I have turned him into a sweet smelling smart clean modern man with clean nails and a groomed look...and I am bloody proud of him as he looks a million dollars, :cute: what have you done to educate and retrain your man or was he perfect when you met him (not)
  8. As some of you know I and to a lesser degree we have had an ongoing relationship with Australia for well over thirty years. It has been a journey I have enjoyed immensely, one with many ups and downs, but in all honesty NOT a journey that I could live without. I sit on PIO day after day, having a laugh, joke, being thick, boring, sometimes I hope helpful, and to me PIO has often been my 'umbilical' chord to Australia, it still keeps me connected in a way and no doubt has been my saving grace on many an occasion. I sit here and pontificate day after day about my love for Australia, and in doing so I am very happy, but it has come to a point where enough is enough. Myself and my good lady have little money, very little in fact, just the way it is, and the house that we are in because of certain legal ramifications looks as though it cannot be sold or rented out,:goofy:. My two Herbert's are now nearly all grown up, and no doubt we will decide on their future a little later, but they are aware and very happy that mum and dad are finally going to give it a go. Things in life change, all the time, and certain recent experiences have taught me to stop talking from my backside and get on with it. My good lady has certain medical conditions,:goofy:, so it is not as straight forward as one would think, but I hold Aussie citizenship and from the conversations I have had with an excellent agent there should be no problem, so fingers crossed. I had (for family health reasons, and the age of my children) been putting back our move to OZ, I simply didn't want to put any more stress on them as they had enough at the time, but enough is enough. We have talked long and hard about this. We will be going with the proverbial not a pot to xxxx in, but what the heck, I/we have done it before and we WILL make it again in OZ. We don't want for much, a basic roof over our heads, even a tent will do for the interim, and we will no doubt make it work. After all, I/we have done it many times, and though hardish to begin with it ALWAYS worked out in the end. The circumstances that made me/us return from Australia now no longer exist thankfully, so this is a blessing in disguise, we can now go with a mindset that the 'specific' problem back here is now 'dead' and buried. :jiggy::jiggy: So enough of my waffle again. But thought I would let you all know that enough is enough and hopefully in no time at all we will be on that big bird in the sky again,:notworthy:, winging our way back to our 'home', and my little piece of paradise. We have no idea where we will rock up, that;s part of the excitement to me, we have no idea how we will make a living, again, part of the excitement. But I know that the big red land that is Australia will soon enough be seeing another POM, but a POM that this time around intends to repay the love and kindness that has been shown me by the country and its people (that includes 'people' as a whole, but more importantly several on PIO who I owe everything to, your kindness my friends have and will not be forgotten I can assure you:notworthy::hug:.) So if any of you find a long haired cockney mouthy freak along with his lovely Wife rock up on your doorstep, you know we would have arrived. Cheers Tony.
  9. Hello My OH applied for a 175 back in June 2009 and we are still waiting for a decision :arghh: He is a Fitter (general) and his occupation was on the MODL when we applied but was then taken off and we were in limbo for a long time. It has beeen put back on the SOL with the July changes but we are getting really desparate for some movement so I have just done a South Australia State Sponsorship application online. My agent says because of when I applied I dont need to submit another visa application form but I am reluctant to have him deal with this as to be honest they havent really been much help. I just wanted to know if anyone else had done this and what do I do if I get the big yes from SA? Do I just inform DIAC that we have applied already in 2009 and we want to change our visa to a 176?? Thanks for your advice, its much appreciated:notworthy:

  11. I applied to ACS under 'Developer Programmer' for which I have a positive assessment. (wasent really sure to go for that or software engineer at the time) I didn't get it back in time to meet the old points test and I am just short under the new points test. However I just noticed I should be eligible for NSW sponsorship http://www.business.nsw.gov.au/live-and-work-in-nsw/visa-and-migration/skills-in-demand as a Java programmer as that is what my experience is in. Unfortunately on their wanted skills list its listed under software engineer rather than Developer Programmer which is a bit of a bummer! Has anyone got a review assessment from ACS to change their ANZSCO code? Its more money and time and I am a little worried should they find me unsuitable under the new code my previous positive assessment may not be valid.

  13. Morning/Evening people. OK, so I often say that I don't regret ANYTHING that has happened in my life, I can with hand on heart say that what has happened to me previously has made me into the person I am today, that may mean I am good, bad, indifferent, selfish, the list is endless, but all in all the things that have happened in my life have happened for a reason and I embrace (to a greater or lesser degree) all these experiences, BUT. I would be lying if I said I don't look back and wish that things 'may' have been a little different. My ONE biggest regret was my second marriage, I should clarify that. Even though we had many, many happy times and to this day I still respect, admire and in a strange kind of way love my second wife, when the wheel fell off by God did it fall off big time. It led me down an avenue that at the time I both loved and hated, I had experiences that I would never have had if it had not been for the split, too boring to go into detail, but at that time I was somewhere that I was very lucky to come out of. But saying that, I can now look back at these experiences and be thankful for them, as they have taught me a lot and I now try and live my life looking back at what I learnt during this time, and for that I guess I am very thankful. So, if you could change just ONE thing about your life what would it be ? Cheers Tony, (Looking up his own backside again,:realmad:)

    Court date changed again !!

Well medicals went well today, but picked up the post when we got home and the court have sent a letter, with 3 weeks to go, changing the final hearing date regarding removing child from jurisdiction, again !!! Do the court not realise that arrangements have been made with the OH's and my work commitments, childcare has been arranged and our CO has been told when the final hearing will be, this will have been the final piece in the jigsaw for our application and now it's been put back for another 6 weeks. Does anyone know if there is anything that can be done ???

    Status Not changed

Hi All, I am new to this forum. I have uploaded my online details on Jan 25 th and its beenover 14 days since I have sent my Papers but the ACS website still lists My status as "Awaiting documents". On enquiring with my agent 3 days ago he says that he has wrote to ACS and they have received my documentation. What I am unable to figure out is if my documentation is received then why is my status not changing. Do advice if anyone else has encountered a similar issue. Thanks blaze

    WANTED DOWN UNDER.Its changed!

Me and the wifey poos have acquired access to a load of the latest WDU progs, and have noticed a distinct change in the tone of the series. When we watched this with Nadia Allswell haha a few years ago,it was decidedly positive, portraying a land of Milk and Honey there for us all ,which ultimately resulted in us being here.I am not complaining either,as i like it here. However, the later series with the blond girl presenter,is a different kettle of fish.It seems to paint Australia as a not so attractive place to live, due to the costs involved. The very tone from the outset is negative, like"Would you leave your loved ones"Would you take such an uncertain chance""Could you live with"etc. Then the TV company appear to seek out families who are not seriously focused on emigrating, but are willing to see what it's all about, with the inevitable outcome, given that they are often quite comfortable in the UK.It's all political in my opinion, all of a sudden the emphasis is on Stop the Brain Drain!!!!You can fool some of the people all of the time,BUT!!!!:wink:
  20. As the title says, I was in the RAF (as an aircraft technician) until 26th Dec 10 and applied for my 176 visa 14th Aug 10. I'm not using an agent so in my application I mentioned I was due to leave the RAF. I have now started a new job and wondered if I need to tell DIAC. SA sponsored applicants are now starting to be allocated case officers so am I best to wait for a case officer and let them know directly or is there a form you should send to DIAC? Thanks in advance for any help.

    circumstances have changed !

well since new bosses have taken over a very busy freight company in WA with lots of contracts to nearly nothing , half decent staff and everyone having there share of the pie to no virtually no hours . i need to look at another route .... im a a truck driver for said company but also a mechanic by trade ( i have my tools already here also ) city and guilds trained etc but left the trade about 15 odd years ago ........ the mrs is on a student visa so i get to work 20 hrs ..... now ive been talking to a few people that weve meet in our time here and they all telling me to change over to a 457 on the mecahnics side . which i understand would be a sensible move. what would be involved in pursuing this . i never done the tests back in the uk as i wasnt planning on going back on the spanners but it seems like the only door thats open for me at the mo ........... !! ...... many thanks guys ..... i know some one has the answer out there and probbaly been down the same road without a doubt ..... :notworthy:
  22. My company phone number has changed and the number I mentioned in my visa application is no longer valid How would I inform my CO ? by filling form 1022 or just sending as email to CO ? Regards
  23. Sure this question migh have been asked before, but here goes.... I am currently de facto on my partners 457 visa. We still have over 2 years left on it and are both over 45. My partner is very unhappy in his job (big let down from what he was promised when he came over from the UK). I have recently started a new job and am very happy in mine. My partner is in arboriculture and I am a Senior IT Project Manager. My partner has the chance of another job, however the 457 is a sticking point as the new company isnt in a position to take over the visa. My company are quite happy to sponsor me as the primary on a 457 visa with him as de facto. But I wondered what the implications were. Do my company have to apply for a totally new 457 with me as the primary and him as de-facto? Or can they take it over and it be swapped around to make me primary and him de facto? If the 457 application for me is not successful, does it affect are existing 457 visa arrangements? My partner has been with his company for over two years now - so ideally we would have liked them to sponsor us for PR, they did agree to it, however have dragged their heels ever since. Just wondered if that is still worth pursuing, and how long he would have to work for them after ther PR was granted. Looking forward to the responses J&S

Case ID changed for SS VIC

HI friends, Did any one checked the status of your Case Ids for State sponsorship Victoria.IT got changed. Does that mean they have revised it?
  25. No, I'm not talking about smoking pot, but normal cigarettes. When I was in OZ 10 years ago, I remember that people were becoming more conscious about smoking. It seemed that smoking was becoming less popular in general. It has surely changed a lot in Europe in the last few years were smoking has been banned from many public places. So, is it the same like it was 10 years ago or has the culture changed (to the better or worse) in OZ? I'm curious to know.... Cheers B!K3R
