Hi All, We're moving out to Perth in 6 weeks and I've been doing loads of research on cars/car seats and isofix points. I'm a bit confused by all this car seat tethering millarky and was wondering if someone could explain it properly to me please? Is it all car seats that need tethering, or just those between ages 1-4years? Do high back booster seats need tethering as well? I understand that ISOFIX car seats are illegal? (despite being the best system in the world, but that's a whole different discussion lol). I am devastated by this news as all my kids (8, 3 & 1) have very expensive isofix seats. Does anybody take the risk of using them? I can't find many Australian cars that have isofix points though? Has anybody been fined because of using them? Thanks to anyone who responds.

Keep UK baby/toddler carseats when move....just in case?

We have finally booked our flights (hooray!) and am looking on Australian websites and totalling up all the money we will need to spend when we get there to buy replacement car seats for our toddler and not-yet-born-newborn. Am still a bit unsure about our ability to be able to live out there money-wise, so was thinking it may be an idea to keep our UK car seats in case we end up moving back. As we're shipping the contents of a 2 bed house incl. white goods, I presume these won't add THAT much to our total bill? Or am I being completely insane? (PS. They cost about £300 in total - not a lot, but all these expenses are really adding up). OR, if we go out to Oz and buy carseats and end up back in the UK - can we legally use Australian carseats back in the UK? I really think this migrating lark is sending me around the bend!- 4 replies

Hi, We have a booked a reccie/validation trip to Perth in a few months and are staying with some friends who have offered us the use of their car. Although this is very kind of them, I have a few doubts about taking up their offer. Firstly, is car insurance easy for them to sort out as we will be on a British driving licence and secondly, we have 2yr old twins and we will need to sort out some carseats prior to our arrival. We don't mind buying or hiring seats but I don't want to be giving them extra work to do? Would car hire with seats included be a better option? Any views, hire costs or websites/shops for carseats would be appreciated. Many Thanks x Jo

Hi, i was just wondering what the laws were for carseats in oz (Perth), my daughter will be nearly 3 when we get there and i was wondering if i could buy a booster seat rather than a carseat, i know here in the UK they have a guide to which seat according to childs weight, do they have something similar in oz? Thanks!

Can we bring our carseats? I suspect the answer is no, due to them only have a European safety mark, but I want to make sure before I spend a small fortune on new ones. Thanks
