  1. Only in Australia surely? A driver who tried to squeeze a massive organ into the boot of her car has left police dumbfounded. Officers stopped the Ford sedan in Perth WA on Sunday after spotting the instrument almost completely hanging out of it. Tied down with just a few loose loops of rope, the large timber organ appeared to be far from safely secured. Have you seen worse?

  3. New laws under which workplace bullies will be imprisoned for up to 10 years have been welcomed by the family of a 19-year-old woman who committed suicide after being tormented by workmates. Damien Panlock, father of Brodie, who jumped to her death in 2006 after being victimised by colleagues at Cafe Vamp in Hawthorn, said the laws won’t bring Brodie back but legislation that protects young workers is "never too late". "This is Brodie’s legacy," Mr Panlock told The Age. "If someone else can be protected from scum like these people, and they know that they are going to be charged, and they are going to have jail time, they might think twice." Attorney-General Robert Clark is expected to table the Crimes Amendment (Bullying) Bill, 2011, in Parliament on Thursday. A government spokesperson said the Baillieu Government would amend stalking legislation to include workplace and cyber bullying. Mr Panlock has worked closely with the Brumby and Baillieu governments on framing the laws, but said he would reserve his final judgment until he saw the legislation. He said he would get advice on whether the laws cover the "grey areas . . . which are part and parcel of why these people haven’t been charged over Brodie". "Our family has been fighting to (have workplace bullying the subject of criminal charges for a year plus," he said. "We haven’t been sitting on our hands." "When you assault someone, that’s a criminal charge, isn’t it? Brodie was assaulted, physically, and there are witnesses. "Nothing’s ever too late ... If this can save someone else’s family ... in the future, if the law is good enough for that, fine. But if it’s not, it doesn’t mean a thing does it?" Victoria Police have not charged the men responsible for bullying Brodie. Victorian Attorney-General Robert Clark said today that "serious bullying was a serious crime" and should carry a significant jail term. "These changes will put beyond doubt that the terrible suffering inflicted on Brodie Panlock will constitute the offence of stalking and carry a jail term of up to 10 years," he told 3AW. Mr Clark said Victorian families were "entitled to be confident" that young workers were protected from victimisation at work. "These changes should give parents confidence that their children can start out in the workforce without being victim to this terrible bullying."
  4. Hey; Can anyone please help me? I have been in Australia for 3 years now, working for the same company for over 2 and a half years now.. 6 months on a working holiday visa 13 months on a 457 visa 12 months on a 857 visa and I've just had enough..the relationship with the employer has changed, the hours I am doing is ridiculos (55+ every week) and all this on a wage which is nothing in comparison to the local area, and the work that other members of staff do for very similar. Is there anything I can do?? Obviously I don't want to lose my PR, and I will be hopefully staying in the same area because I love it, have great friends but the company is wearing me out. Thanks
  5. Hi, Sorry about the last post but little girl pressed the keyboard whilst I was typing. Just a couple of questions is anyone can help. 1). Hubby has been offered a job on a 457 but we have applied for 176 state sponsored visa. Can we carry on this application whilst in Oz. 2). The job is in WA and the ss is from SA. Is this going to be a problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated as we need to send the job acceptance letter back today. Just worried that we may not ever get permanent residencey if we accept the 457 as hubby is 44 so getting close to the cut of age.Do we decline this job and wat for the 176 or do we take a chance and just go? We do not think he would not qualify for enough points under the new one in July as he is a tradie.

  8. I am travelling on PR subclass 175 next week. I need some guidance on the following:- 1. I have a huge collection of movies and songs that have been ripped and copied to my portable hard disk which helps me avoid carrying CD/DVDs 2. I am healthy and fit but wish to carry basic medication for common over the counter drugs I wish to know if its alright to take these things with no special declaration/forms etc.. that need to be filled out. 2 days back i read in the news that all illegal porn will be confiscated and fine of $275,000 or maximum 10 years imprisonment will be given. I am not carrying such stuff but only the above as explained in points. Help is much appreciated:smile: -Sid
  9. If you get any speeding fines while on a UK licence you pay the fines but the authorities can't put Australian points on a UK licence. My question is once you get an Australian licence do they hold any points you may have accumulated while on a UK licence and put them straight on your Australian licence? I'm in Victoria by the way, I know different states have different rules on things. Thanks, Mike

  11. Hi, Going out to Aus on a permanent residency visa courtesy of my girl friend who has been offered and accepted a job in Perth. Can i carry on being a self employed tradesman when we get out there? I.e. buy a van, promote myself and work only for me on domestic jobs rather than sub contracting or getting a job direct with a company and working on site. thanks. Karl
