  2. Hi All, This is my first post on this site so here goes.. We are hoping to move from Ireland to Perth in Sept 2011 and have just started the whole process. My husband is a Cabinet Maker and I have just completed a business degree. At the moment I have a good job in Ireland but due to our economy I must work full time as my husband has found it difficult to find full time work in Ireland as a cabinet maker, he has now been reduced to a three day week. I would love to be able to work part time and spend some quality time with my children, but at the moment our roles are reversed.. My question is are there many jobs in Perth for cabinet makers and what would be the average weekly earnings. We have been checking many employment websites in Australia but most don't say what the earnings are. Also, does it make it much harder to find work without any previous work experience in Aus.. Any advice welcome..

  5. Hi, I wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding AQF for my OH. He is a Cabinet Maker who completed a full 4 year work and study based apprenticeship. After completing this he worked for firms as a cabinet maker and has been assessed by the TRA as such. What we need to know is does he need to complete a RPL course to qualify for licensing requirements should he choose to work self employed in SA. Also would he need a licence if he finds employment with a cabinet making firm in SA? Any help with regards to this would be greatly appreciated as even though the OCBA website is very well laid out, I'm not sure I'm taking in the information.
  6. Hi, I'm considering coming over to Brisbane to do a 2 year Cabinet Making course which would help me with a career change. I'm now 31, with no committments or ties and was hoping I could possibly make a new life out there once I have completed the course. I was hoping I could get some information from anyone who has been in the same boat, which could give me some good advice and things to look out for. How is the situation for Cabinet Makers at the moment? Cheers Gaz

  10. Hello to everyone I was hoping I would be able to get some information from wise tradesmen out there - lol Myself (aimy), hubbie (john) and son (joe) will be arriving in Brisbane in the next couple of months. One of my biggest worries is my son. He has no real qualifiactions & has come up with the idea of getting a trade - Bricklaying or Cabinet making at one of the Tafe's. I'm all for him getting a trade but have no idea which one. I've heard from brickie's in the past saying steer clear but that's what my son is leaning towards. I want him to think long term also I know it's his decision in the end, but it would be good to hear from anyone with opinions or feelings about this This is my 1st post, so just wanted to say HI also  Aimy xx

    TRA Cabinet Maker

Hi OH is a Joiner/Cabinet Maker and we have been looking into the VETASSESS / TRA thing and it seems sooo much quicker, cheaper and easier to go down the TRA Cabinet Maker route (as in there doesn't seem to be the practical test or the extortionate cost either) that we think we must be missing something. Has anyone who has done the TRA Cabinet Maker route got any tips or pointers? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Donna (and James)
