  1. Hi Guys, I am on 457 visa as a Butcher ( 1 year). I got through RPL a Certificate III in Meat processing last month. I am intend to apply to get my skills assessed on Trades Recognition Australia. They say: "The TRA Migration Skills Assessment Applicant Guidelines state that where an AQF qualification has recently been obtained through RPL, an applicant must also provide evidence of employment that: covers no less than six years of full-time (or equivalent) paid employment, three years of which may be as a trainee under the direct supervision of a tradesperson/employer (this is considered an informal training period) with an additional three years full-time (or equivalent) paid employment completed at the required skill level for the occupation." I already have one year of experience in Australia and back to my country I got 2 years of experience as a trainee but I was under 16 and after that 4 years as full time. And it was more than 10 years ago (I am 32 years old). Does anyone in this forum had any similar experience? Thanks

4 wks to go- can't do it!

Hello everyone I am a 31 year old Butcher with a 3 year state sponsored visa for QLD. So much time, money and effort have gone into what I thought I wanted and now I am very scared and uncertain. I am Heading to Cairns and am very worried that I won't make friends or be able to find work. I keep imagining myself walking around on my own searching for work in Butchers and supermarkets but getting rejected. Its going to be so hard leaving people and yes I did know I would have to do it eventually but I just put it out of my mind. Now I have 4 weeks to go I have paid thousands for the visa through an agent, left my job, bought a one way ticket, my savings are in my new Australian account and now i don't think i can follow through with it. I have lately felt more scared than nervous and often get upset for hours at a time- how can i make the decision its very hard.:arghh: I know its a personal choice that only I can make but I simply cant make it. Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks
  8. Hi this is my first post, i joined this forum to hopefully get some guidance with employment prospects. I am a butcher with 11 years experience. I am awaiting a final decision on my 3 year visa and i am hopefully going to cairns next april 2010. The problem is I am not seeing many jobs for butchers advertised online and i am getting panicked! I am in good steady employment here but will take a risk and go to see for my self what the score is with prospects. When you think of all those Barbies the Aussies are having surely there are plenty of Butcher shops/supermarkets and so good chances of employment????? I visited Australia before and was alarmed by how many signs were in shop windows that read 'job vacancy- locals only'. What if they just don't want to employ me because i have a temporary 3 year visa?? I would like to hear from any other Butchers who have made the move and found work- I am going it alone and am working 50 to 60 hours a week to build up some cash to protect me if the worst happens but people have to eat so surely Butchery is a safe trade in Australia?!
