  2. Hi - my husband and I are looking into emigrating to Australia. We have family there (my brother) who is permanent resident with Australian partner. My husband is a builder with 15 years experience and his own business. He served a four year apprenticeship and has been working in the trade ever since. He does not hold any formal qualifications so just wondering if we were to apply for a skilled visa, how do we evidence his experience? We have accounts for his company of more than 10 years but nothing to prove he is qualified. Have been looking into an on site qualification (NVQ3) but wondered if this is the best one to be recognised internationally and have also seen City and Guilds mentioned - does anyone know which one carries more worth? Thanks
  3. Hi all. iv been in Perth 4 years and came back to the UK in May for work due to the downturn. My family are still in Perths north and i miss them and want to come back over.Iv been in construction for 30 years.I can multi trade but as all the brits in Perth know it means nothing.I was laying bricks for several months and then worked on maintenance as most of the poms end up doing.I have my building diploma, first aid trained, work at heights, asbestos removal and would like to ask if people there would keep their ears open for me. Previous work with Dale Alcocks, webb brown neaves etc etc. Really appreciate it cheers

    Coming to oz 2015

Hi All, thanks for reading my thread. Basically i am coming to oz with my family in 2015 so in october i will be over visiting a few places to see which is best to relocate!! I have a pretty reasonable size building company and i am a qualified Quantity Surveyor with plenty of experience in both office and on site so wondering which areas would be best to visit with a view to trying to sort a few interviews out for when i come back again in April for longer with the whole family (3 kids) I am completely selling up so will be bringing a lump of money with me to live on for a while but would love to arrange something before i come over.. thanks for looking and hope to get a bit of advice...

Do I take my tools or not?

Hi all, The wife and I are moving out to Perth and it's surrounding areas in March on a permanent residency 190 visa which I have secured through my original trade as a bricklayer. Need to decide whether or not take my tools, gear and equipment. From what I understand, the majority of work available for newcomer brit brickie s is new build residential sites, and as such I'm thinking the only real requirement for tools should I end up working in this environment is basic hand tools, levels, profiles etc (no power tools or other building equipment). I do have a good amount of my own gear which I have accumulated whilst working for myself in UK over the last several years as bricklayer / general builder. But am beginning to question whether it's worth the hassle/expense of shipping it over, or simply selling it before I go. Can anyone else see the point of me bringing power tools and equipment such as stihlsaw, breakers and generators all that way, when the chances are ill most likely be working back on new builds using only my own basic hand tools, where all other equipment and plant should be supplied by employer? Or is it looked on favourably by potential employers if I already had the gear? As always, all your posts/thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated. Cheers and and all the best for 2014.

  9. Hi everyone....... Its been a while since ive posted, so heres a quick re-coup......D weve been on the central coast NSW for just over three months now and loving it, so ok, the rain is horrible  but we can all live with a little rain.....Family of four in rented accomadation for six months but have just bought our first home here *Yay* Needs alot of TLC as previous owners were dedicated smokers ....Any advice from anyone along the central coast area in regards to any fabulous, trustworthy builders would be very much appreciated as we want to do some alterations but do *Not* want to employ a cowboy from hell .... and as the title say's.....what paint did you use to decorate inside your dwellings? what about branding? I have heard Bunnings do a fab range, and will be looking at there ranges, but much like a child in a sweet shop, I will possibly want every tin on the shelf.:goofy:......Hubby is already sweating profusely at the mere thought of letting me loose And.......Kitchens??? Bunnings? Harvey Norman? Im keen to haggle......It doesnt bother me one bit....but.....has anyone bought any kitchens from either places and loved them? Or hated them? If anyone can throw some idea's my way in regards to suppliers/builders which will help the local community Id be forever grateful...... Many Thanks Rachel

    Builder Required

Hi Two years ago we bought a house that needed renovating, we are now in a position to start on the easy bits, which is to install a staircase in a currently unusable room. After phoning a couple of stair company's, I now know that they don't cut the hole, you need a builder to do that. So my question is, anyone know of a decent builder? Although this might be a small job to start with we will need more building work in the future. So if we are happy with the work they do, this wont be a one off job. We are living in The Basin, 3154. Thanks Sara
