  1. Hi folks, I'm travelling to the UK, Spain and Finland for roughly 5.5 weeks in mid July until mid August this year. My British passport expires on the 22nd August, which is only 1 day after we'd land back to Australia from this trip. I haven't allowed for the full 11 weeks it may take to have my new passport delivered and even though it's a good 6 weeks, I don't like the idea of sending my current passport away and then my new one not returning in time before I have to fly. I do have PR though, so would Border Force be able to access my visa and allow me to fly if I also got an emergency travel document? Is it worth me applying for an emergency travel document anyway or am I correct in thinking that will only last 21 days (less time than the holiday)? Should I just fly outbound with my current passport and organise a new passport in London in the embassy and if so can this process be expedited as I'd be applying for a simple renewal onshore in England? Can I just turn up at the British embassy in Melbourne? I tried calling them but the number provided and the website both ended up being dead ends. Any tips or other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Renewing British Passports

Hi All, My family and I have joint Australian and British Nationality. Just before Christmas I renewed my 17 year old sons UK passport by printing out and then filling out for form C1 online, getting it checked at the Australian Post Office and sending off. There was no requirement to enclose a current Australian passport in supporting documents. Got it back no problems. We then decided to do mine and my elder daughters, went to Post Office today with form C1 all duly filled in and photos countersigned etc. Told by helpful counter staff at Post office that system has changed in the last week and online form must be filled in from UK passport office website !!!! So just filled out two forms and in the form it asks for your un-cancelled passport nos. Put old british passport no's on form, proceeded to end of form, paid money and got receipts. These forms now need to be printed out and posted off to Liverpool with supporting documentation. What is disturbing me is that the form says "in signing this I realise I may lose an other countries citizenship in applying for british passport" It also asks for all your Passports to be enclosed not just your British one. I had left my Austrlian passport no off the online form as though it was referring to my British passport and also as my Mum and Dad are very ill do not want to send it to Liverpool (with great respect to Liverpudlians) and be without it for a month. Does anyone in the Forum know if the UK rules have changed re dual nationality and is it essential to declare your Austrlian Citizenship on the form? Don't want to break the law. Another issue after paying the money I can't get back online to change the form and put my Australian passport no on it. Cheers

can I apply for a British passport?

Hi guys, just need some freindly advice or information will be appreciated. So my father was born in England, moved to Australia in late 80s. Met my mother here in Australia she was born here. They never married. I belive he still has his british passport he regularly goes over. I was born here in Australia in augest 1987. So can I apply for a British passport/duel citizenship? ? Thank u.
  4. This is a hypothetical situation at the moment but could be a possibility. Say I have Australian and British citizenship, I get an Aussie passport and don't bother renewing the British one when it expires and want to go back to England to visit or even come back permanently. Has anyone had this situation or experienced problems with Immigration in the UK. My understanding is that travelling on the Aussie passport is ok and shouldn't pose any problems. However, as a British citizen I am not subject to immigration laws or need a visa. Only the British passport has expired not my citizenship. The British passport is still evidence of British citizenship...and the Aussie passport will say Place of Birth as being in the UK! I don't want to fork out loads of money for a British passport in Oz at their extortionate rates as I probably won't use it again. Cheers Mark
