DO YOU KNOW OF ANY BRITS WHO ARE CONSIDERING RETURNING TO THE UK? ITV1 are making a new documentary series about British Ex-Pats who are considering moving back to the UK. We’re keen to hear from Brits who have lived abroad for years without (or very rarely) visiting home, but who are now thinking about returning permanently to Britain. Perhaps you miss your family and friends, maybe schooling is a problem for your kids, or you simply yearn to step back into British culture. We'll help you explore the reality of coming home, and prepare you for deciding whether to stay abroad or return to your roots. If this sounds like you, or if you know anyone who might be interested, please contact Amy Robbins as soon as possible by email: amy.robbins@fevermedia.com Or call (+44) 020 7697 1425.

Brits generally 'conformist' and thrive in a structured world where everyone knows ...
whoiam posted a topic in Chewing the fat
-where everyone knows what is expected of them and expects the same of others. Therefore Brits make better drivers, better administrators, keeps the class system intact with subtleties, never talk religion(even the die hard church goers), talks about the weather a lot because its a safe subject, only they know the meaning of the word 'nice'(its not as nice as it sounds--c'mon I'm just trying to politely say that I hate it), finds it hard to migrate and settle down unless a mini Britain can be created where they go etc etc etc. Anyone who thrives in a foreign land, is able to adapt and inculturate is the exception rather than the rule. This being PIO we can expect to see more 'exceptions' but what do you think of my generalisation??? Is it true to a large extent? Is it true to a small extent? Is it a load of s**t? When opining pls tell us if you're a Brit or not pls.- 60 replies

I am all about sport, tech and socialising. Please don't tell me it was a PIO member, Pablo, Sh7t man, Lemmings:idea: A BRITISH man was left dazed and wandering the streets in his singed underwear after almost blowing himself up brewing home-made vodka. Ten neighbouring dwellings had to be evacuated after Lawrence Toms, 43, had a tinker with his distillation equipment, sparking an explosion so powerful it blew out the windows and damaged the roof of his home in southern Wales, newspaper the Daily Express reported. Neighbours said Mr Toms, an inventor, had been making vodka after downloading a recipe from the Internet. The crews of four fire engines battled a blaze while Mr Toms was taken to a specialist burns unit for treatment. Police have begun to investigate the explosion. Mr Toms is believed to have made a still in a bedroom of the terrace house. "It's crazy. You don't go making something like that in a terrace street, especially where there are kids about," neighbour Susan Minty told the Express.

just wondering how aussie women compare to uk women, this is mainly directed at men who have lived with both, i.e who is the most domesticated, less likely to kick off if you are out too late or drink too much? do aussie women tend to go a bit leathery looking later on due to too much sun? are aussie women as narky as our own? just wondering

Hi there people. Ill keep this as short as poss. Me and the missus just waiting on nursing registration and visa, shouldnt be too long at all now, hopefully be there within the next month. Im a time served painter and decorator and Ive just completed my white card online. The thing im trying to understand about is this ABN (Australian business number). Most painter vacancies i see online require ABN card and own transport. Is it not common to work for a company? from what i gather this ABN looks like being 'self employed'. If there any other tradesmen or anyone with any tips/advice on this it would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I am sure that someone will have asked a similar question to the one I ma going to ask but I have had a look on the Forum and can't find it if they have. I am a UK citizen and am getting married to my Kiwi fiancee next March (2011). We are hoping to move to Oz (Melbourne) in the next couple of years and so are starting to look into Visa's. We are obviously fortunate tha my fiancee is from New Zealand so can move to Oz with no problems, but I would like some advice on the best option for us. From my research so far, I think the best option for me would be the partner Visa, and hope I get a permanent one. Does anyone know how likely this would be? We have been together for 7 years and own a house together in the UK. We also have a 11 month old daughter, born in the UK. We are also wondering if it would be worth my fiancee getting her Oz citizenship. Her mum is Australian so she is entitled by descent, but we arent sure if this would actually have any advantage over simply going over as a NZ citizen. Has anyone else looked into this? Would it increase my chances of getting a permanent partnership Visa? Lastly, we are not sure what kind of Visa our daughter would need? Any advice on this is greatly appreciated, the Australian embassy are not easy people to get hold of! Many thanks, James

Hi everyone, Just wanting some advice on how to go about applying for a British Passport. My history:- I came out from UK to Oz as a child on my parents passport back in the 70's have lived continuiously in Australia since I was 9 yrs old and have Australian Citizenship. I now want to apply for a British Passport and not sure exactly how to go about organising it. Ie can I print the forms on line or do I have to go to the Post Office to organise forms? My Mom still has our family's original passport and I reverted back to my maiden name since a divorce years ago so even my name is the same as what it was as a child, I also have all the support documents I would need. just not sure which way to go with this application. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks. C

I have been to Oz on a WHV before and would love the opportunity to come back for a period of time!!! I would be soooooo grateful if there is someone out there that can help me, as I am getting lots of different advice from websites and people, but this info has not been that helpful. Hi We moved to Wellington, NZ about 5 years ago from the UK, but it isn't the beach life that we were hoping for as the weather is very much like the UK (I thought at least we would be able to swim in summer, but the water is always freezing). We are thinking of moving to Australia for the sunshine and beach life, but I wanted to know what the reality of life is like in Australia. A pretty big question, but if someone could give me their perspective on how the weather affects their lives, it would be a start. I thought Queensland sounded good as it's sunny, has beaches, we can both get work in Brisbane and there's bound to be decent schools somewhere. Is the heat too much sometimes and are the bugs as bad as they sound? Any input would be appreciated! Harps

I am ready to apply for my 175 visa and wanted to hear from anyone in a similar position to me to see if they've run into any problems... Background: UK citizen (31 years old) applying for a 175 visa and on the CSL (Mechanical Engineering). I am currently based in Malaysia, have been working here for the last 4 years and my fiancee is Malaysian (she will be de facto partner). We have all the paperwork ready to go, IELTS is done for my fiancee and we are ok on points The part I am concerned about is the fact that I am British and my girlfriend is Malaysian. I wonder if anyone else has been in a similar position and run into problems? Also when do you have to submit bank statements etc to prove how much money you have? My finances are scattered all over with some in offshore accounts, some in Malaysian accounts and some in British accounts. Thanks for your comments in advance.
