  2. Hi All, This is the first time I have written on here, we have been in Melbourne for 6 months now and it feels like a lifetime to me. My kids and wife have settled pretty well but I have struggled very day literally since the plane landed. I am trying to grasp at why we came, its been so hard that I can't even remember why we even came here now. We wanted to try somewhere different and didn't want to get older living our whole life in the UK and also to provide better opportunities for the kids. What I have realised since we arrived is that we had a good life in the UK. Good job, friends, house, area, the only thing that let the place down was the school that my eldest was attending. We should have moved across the city not across the world. My wife is my best friend and soulmate, I have felt so lucky to have met her, she is a strong women and she wants to give it a go for at least a year but I can't live here anymore and it us breaking us apart. We have two kids 14 and 10 which is worrying me even more, my 14 year old should have been starting year 10 this September in the UK. To make things worse the company I worked for in the UK has a job available so I could literally job back into my 'old' life. I am losing my family here but if I 'force' them to move back to the UK I will lose them there also. I'm not sure if its Melbourne or Australia or me. Personally I find Melbourne very bland, I love the city but that's not my life. I live in the North East and most of the work I am involved is down the eastern suburbs so hardly get to the city. Maybe if I was in my early 20's living and working in the city it would be very different. We have moved from the rat race to a huge rat race. I have thought about moving elsewhere in Australia but I think I will simply be uprooting my family again and taking my problems with me. What I do know is that it's not somewhere I want to live long term, the weather isn't everything (and we are talking Melbourne ), I don't want to put roots down here (especially with the price of housing) and with the age of the kids I don't feel we can give it a try as they need to be settled at this crucial stage in education. I feel we are wasting time 'giving it time' as after 6 months this feeling has got worse not better. I want to get my eldest back on to his GCSE's before he falls behind to far. I think we are losing much more than gaining but my wife does not seem to feel the same. Not sure anyone can give any advice and sorry for the ramble.... Cheers Ross P.S For all those on the way out thinking that would never happen to me, be warned I was saying the same thing all the way up to the day we left, agree on a strategy before you come out if one or both of you find yourselves unhappy.

    Breaking in new shoes

    I bought a pair of new shoes for my trip on Thursday, I wore them yesterday and ended up with two massive blisters on the back of my heal, what's the best thing to do, grin and bare the pain, or say sod it and use my others that are literally falling to pieces.
  5. We are 7 months into a 12 month rental agreement, we were rushed into takin this house as we were in paid for accomodation by my partners work, (which was awful!!!). We really want a smaller house, but bigger garden and pool, we have seen a house we would like but worried about breaking our lease we dont know all the ins and outs of doing this! what happens to our bond etc, can anyone help. We haven't decided this is what we will do just a thought!!
  6. Hello everyone hope all is well and good? Not posted on here for a while as been loving oz life but now have a big problem and seeking help . We are currently renting in Brisbane and have been in same property for past 6 months. our current and 1st rental agreement is due to end mid sept, we received renewal of this rental contract mid july which commenced rental agreement from mid sept till end jan 2012. just previous to receiving the renewal contract my husband applied for a job in cairns but hadny heard anything, so when we received renewal contract ( 7 weeks before commencement date!!) we signed it, after a couple of phone calls from real estate agent chasing us up, then when they had lost it, threatening to issue us with a 'Notice to vacate'. well, since then, my hubby has been offered the job and its too good an opportunity to miss, the problem is, the landlord doesnt want to let us out of this renewal contract which starts in 2 weeks(!!!!) as he doesnt want to be out of pocket. We have sent him an email (via estate agent) but he doesnt want to budge..............Can anyone give us some advice or tips to help fight this??? Thank you in advance, we are desperate to get to Cairns but cant pay rent on 2 properties at the same time :err:

    Breaking my bridging visa...

    I am currently on a bridging visa while I wait for my defacto partner visa to come through. I was previously on a working holiday visa and as my immigration agent explained my bridging visa is an extention of my working holiday visa. I have been working for my employer for 6 months now which means I am going to have to leave. I haven't informed my employer of my situation and I want to stay where I work. Is it worth risking this and carrying on working for my employer? I have been on my bridging visa for 2 weeks now but my partner visa could take weeks or months until it comes through. It isn't easy to find a decent paid full time job for 6 months and therefore I didn't inform my employer of this situation when I took the job as I thought the bridging visa would 'reset' my time. Please advise. Thanks

    Breaking lease

    We've decided to call it a day and head back. We have a 12 month lease on a house (pricey $1250/week, 3 bed house) in Sydney which is up in October. Planning on leaving in June our intention is not to pay the last month's rent and let them use the deposit for that. Obviously cash is tight. There's no probs with the conditon of the property, and it'll certainly be cleaner than when we moved in... Does anyone have any experience of this? We don't plan on returning to Oz. General skilled migration 8 April 2011 - Important update about your sponsorship application Sponsorship Applications under current Points Test - Submit by 5pm on 2 May 2011. -> to allow enough time for visa applications to be lodged with DIAC under the current Points Test, all completed applications should be received by Immigration SA before 5pm (Adelaide local time) on Monday 2 May 2011. -> this means that your online sponsorship application and supporting documents should be submitted to and registered by Immigration SA before 5pm (Adelaide local time) on Monday 2 May 2011. -> please be aware that the Online Application System will be closed at 5pm (Adelaide local time) on Monday 2 May 2011. If your application is received after that time, it will not be processed. -> Immigration SA will endeavour to finalise applications received by the May deadline before 1 July 2011, to enable you to lodge your visa application with DIAC under the current Points Test. Please check the Online Client Tracking System for results, which will be available as soon as a decision is made on your application. -> all applications will be processed in order of receipt of complete documentation. Please be aware that due to the anticipated volume of applications, Immigration SA cannot guarantee that all applications will be finalised before 1 July 2011. -> you should also be aware that there are Planning Levels for all occupations on the current State Sponsored Migration List. Once the Planning Level for a specific occupation has been reached, that occupation will no longer be available for sponsorship. This means that applications already submitted for that occupation will not proceed -> to be considered under the current Points Test, you need to lodge your visa application with DIAC before 1 July 2011; otherwise your visa application will be assessed against the new Points Test and criteria. -> once details of South Australia’s Sponsorship criteria for 2011-2012 have been finalised, the Online Application System will be reopened.

    Breaking a lease has anyone done it?

    we are planning on moving back to UK in July, problem is that we rent here and our lease is up for renewal in April,and we don't want to move out of here before we finally move.once will be enough! I know if we break the lease we will lose our deposit, has anyone else been in this situation and how did you handle it?

This has increased emails and telephone calls we receive from people all over the world and also from Migration Agents who are confused. Applicants can only nominate an ANZSCO occupation from 1 July 2010. The ASCO codes correlated to ANZSCO occupations provide DIAC-endorsed policy guidance for the purposes of acceptable skills assessments. An applicant with a relevant valid skills assessment in an ASCO occupation should map it to the relevant ANZSCO occupation. This SOL in existence prior to 1 July 2010 in ANZSCO code (schedule 2) – applies to GSM applicants who are eligible for transitional arrangements and who lodge their application before 1 January 2013.

  13. Hi, we are moving back home on 18th January and have a 12 month lease in Berwick. Will i let the estate agents know A.S.A.P or just move without telling them? What will or can they do? will we loose our bond and have to pay 3.5% of annual rent to them. Don't know anyone who can take over lease unless someone ready to come over sees this and wants to take a 3 bedroom home on @ $320 a week. I would really like to let them know but don't want to be paying them more money. Gillian

It is a three bedroomed townhouse, with intergral electric garage. Allocated parking. One tiled loungving area, kitchen/diner. laundry room with sink and sownstairs toilet. Covered outside entertaining area. Upstairs has three double carpeted bedrooms. Two of the rooms have external door to balcony. master bedroom has walin wardrobe. Bathroom has walk in shower and spa bath. seperate toilet. Landing has large storage cupboard. The property has reverse cycle ducted heating and cooling. The property is based in Lockleys which is 10 mins from the city and 15 mins from beach. Within walking distance to local shops. Bus stop 2 mins away with buses every 15 mins. Also within walking distance to local schools. rent is $380 per week Pm if you are interested

    Breaking rental lease to go home

    Hi does antone know anthing bout breaking your rental lease to go home?? I know we will lose our deposit. We have another 5 months left on our lease and dont think we can stay that length of time. we would love to leave ASAP. Its all the legal documents you have to sign to say you cant leave before the end of the lease or you are liable for the cost of further rent and advertising fee's. If you just went home and posted the keys to them, can they do anything??:confused:

I am very worried because i told my bank to stop paying the car insurance company and my fitness club centre any more. Even though i still had afew months to pay them. By the way lived in Scotland. The large main bedroom has built in robes and a spacious ensuite. Also offering a kitchen area, spacious family room/meals, heating/cooling, dishwasher, spacious main bathroom, carport plus garage and covered patio for outdoor entertaining.   21. Hi All Our new house build is ready earlier than expected, so we are breaking lease on our rental. It is a massive open plan 4 x 2 on a quiet street with a theatre room, games and study. There is split reverse air con and the bedrooms are all big. The house is less than a year old. The rent is $410 per week and pets are negotiable. It is available from 15th December.   23. Hi there, I was looking for some advice moved here in Jan 09 rented a property in central canberra, very old and expensive 3 bed house. House is damp with no air con only has gas fire. Have seen a house to buy and want to break the tennancy agreement. Have child with asthma i think hes affected by the condition of the house.How do I break the agreement, what notice to I give and what are the penalties involved? All advice would be appreciated.     Breaking a rental lease?

    Hello, I am looking to move out of my current accommodation by the end of Aug. I have been in this property for 14 months never missed a payment and generally have a good relationship with my landlord however, I believe the contact is for the beg of Jan. I say believe because After signing up for an initial 12 months I have never signed anything else however, I’m not sure if rentals are in 6 months period. Can I walk away after giving 4 weeks notice and not face any penalties? Any advice would be very welcomed! Cheers
