Hi All! brand new, first thread

Hi All, Just started the process. Getting all the stuff ready for submitting for the TRA. I am a painter and decorator with all the relevant requirements. Will i still have to do a skills test and does anybody know what is involves in the test for a P&D. Ste
  5. This is our first post on PIO. Reading the CP thread has been most heart warming and encouraging, we wish all the very best to the lucky ones BUT Have I been deceived by a Migration Agent? Last January on returning home with my ‘newish’ husband from holiday with my daughter in Australia, and reacting to a severe badgering to move to Australia I investigated the internet. My main concern was the ‘balance of family’ test. I have 2 daughters, one in the UK and one in Australia where she has lived for the last 18 years, now with a husband and three boys. My present husband and I have been together for 11 years and married nearly 3 years ago. He has two children, one who lives somewhere in UK and another possibly in the USA or SA. An internet site offered an ‘instant eligibility test’ which indicated I satisfied the criteria for a Parent Visa. Since this time we have entered into a ‘Money Back’ agreement with the company, paid them £1,000, completed all the necessary forms including a joint family tree, lodged all the forms with PVC (via the company) and paid the first VAC. We received from PVC an acknowledgement dated 5Jul2010. Since this time we have come to terms with the long wait and started to de-clutter our home. Part of the preparation has been to surf through the PIO thread for tips of money, homes, banking, pensions etc. It came as a shock to come across a post by ‘Gollywobbler’ (No 705 of 30Sep2110) which spells out very clearly that, together with my husband, I do not satisfy the balance of family test. Unless somebody knows to the contrary, it looks like all our plans and dreams and those of my Australian family are shattered. It would appear to be appropriate to write to PVC and withdraw the visa application and demand some form of reparation from the visa agents. Any advise/comments would be welcome.
  6. Hello people, I'm comparing prices on cars at the moment, friends have told me new cars are of very similar prices to the UK, I'm not finding this to be correct! I'm only managing to find prices on second-hand cars but they seem much more expensive in the UK even taking into consideration the weak pound. I know surfing the net isn't the same as trudging around the dealerships, so I'm asking you guys the question are new cars more expensive downunder? Thanks for any reply's

    Shipping a brand new bike

We've just bought our son a new bike, (the offer was too good to pass up, £55 for a dual suspension 26", one week offer only!), and we were wondering whether to leave it in its box and ship it as new, or should be put it together as if he has used it? Will we get charged taxes for something that is obviously new? Any advice welcome, thanks.

  13. From: Another Aussie brand moves offshore While iconic Australian clothing brands Bonds, King Gee and Hard Yakka will now be manufactured offshore, the company that owns them insists the heart of the business remains Australian. However, the decision by Pacific Brands to move its entire clothing manufacturing workforce to Asia means labels like Bonds will be the latest in a long line of Australian brands hoisted overseas. The trend goes back to the 1920s when the Vegemite trademark was acquired by US giant Kraft. More recently, Arnott's Biscuit Company was bought by US-based Campbell Soup Company in 1997 and Aeroplane jelly was acquired by Jelly McCormick Goods two years earlier. Another iconic Aussie product, the Victa lawnmower, was purchased last year by US company, Briggs & Stratton while American company Heinz gobbled up Golden Circle. Cereal company Uncle Toby's was bought by Swiss outfit Nestle in 2006 and the makers of "budgie smugglers", swimwear company Speedo, was snapped up by the UK-based Pentland Group in 1990. But Pacific Brands chief executive Sue Morphet is adamant that while Bonds singlets and undies will now be made in countries like China, the ideas will continue to come out of Australia. She pointed out that although 1850 jobs across Australia will be lost over the next 18 months the company still employs about 7000 people.

    Brand new...

Hello everybody, we're brand new to all this. Dave has already been granted his visa and activated it in December last year. I am just about to apply for my de facto visa. I've managed to gather everything together and it's all ready to go. Hopefully it'll be in the post this week. We're hoping to move out to Sydney in April 09. If anyone has any idea where to go to start off that would be helpful. Thinking we'll head straight to Sydney, rent for 6 months somewhere so that we can find our feet and see what and where suits us. We're going to the Australian Expo at Earl's Court in London in October - anyone know if it's worth a visit? Cheers H&D

    Brand new today!

Hello This seemed like the most friendly of the 'Move to Oz' forums so I thought I take the plunge and actually join! We are getting the final bits of info together to send off for Skills recogniton (I'm a teacher) and then we'll send off for the actual visa in September. We're using an agency called Migration Matters - anyone heard of them/have any feedback? We're impressed so far but it's always nice to get others' comments. We're hoping to move to southwest WA. My husband has family in Rockingham so he's well up for the big move. I have days when I can't wait to go and days when I am really not sure! Anyone else get these wobbles? Are there any teachers out there. Do you know if it's easy for brits to get primary teaching jobs in Australia? Well that's all for now. Looking forward to hearing from anyone out there! Alex (Lord of the Rings fan in case you wondered about the username!)
