  1. I read that in The Australian today - an Aussie company is a partner. They do not know yet if it is properly viable to extract it. And also in the news in OZ that HUGE mine in South OZ - Olympic Mine - cd be the largest open cut mine in the world.

    Blackpool Tower Grand Reopening

HOLIDAYMAKERS can once more enjoy the high life of Lancashire with this week's reopening of the iconic Blackpool Tower. The 118-year-old structure will shine again following a ten-month, multi-million-pound restoration. Much of The Tower has been closed to the public since the structure was bought by Blackpool Council as part of the town's £250million regeneration programme. It still retains the famous Tower Ballroom and Tower Circus but now includes the Blackpool Tower Dungeon, a fun walk through some of the North West's most horrible history and the Blackpool Tower Eye with 4D cinema experience. The film takes guests down memory lane and the 4D effects include a spray of sea-water and the aroma of the beach donkeys! But the jewel in the crown is the Tower Eye - a spine-tingling glass Skywalk and observation platform... not for the faint-hearted. With the launch of the Blackpool Illuminations yesterday, there's definitely plenty going on into the autumn in the holiday mecca. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is getting in on the act with a special deal until October 21. Everyone buying a wristband for the Pleasure Beach in advance online will save £5 and be able to return for a free visit. The return visit must be booked at the same time as the original visit and must be taken before October 21. See pleasurebeachresort.com.
  3. Well after 4 years since we started the ball rolling we are flying out on Thursday, PR's in our pockets, heading for the Gold Coast and we will be looking to rent on Pacific Pines, so anyone in that area it would be great to meet up in 2 or 3 weeks time. No jobs though so thats our main worry, oh's a nurse (Mental Health) & I am a ICI trained mechanical technician so any contacts would be great, nerves are going wild and emotions are running high but we will be rite. Flying with Singapore and have around 15 hrs there so have booked a 6 hr block at the airport hotel to catch some z's then we will have a mooch around and land at Brisbane 07.20 on Saturday. Staying at Bluewaters Appartments for 3 weeks & hopefully find somewhere to rent within that time. Just like to say thanks to all who post on Poms in Oz, although we havnt posted much, we have learnt loads, keep it up and it is something we will be doing, to offer our support ilke we have recieved Will do a arrival report when we catch up with ourselves Kids cant wait to get in the pool (11 & 3 year old lads) The Egans,
  4. Well we’ve only gone and done it!! Ye ha. Tickets booked today, leaving Sunny Blackpool on 30 September. PR Visas in place (after 2 1/2 years hard slog) and validated in March this year when we did a recci. On the recci we stopped on the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and travelled up to Gladstone, had a decent look around and decided The Gold Coast suited us as a starting point for our new life Down Under. We liked the Sunshine Coast as well and also Redcliffe but decided on the Gold Coast. Gladstone was visited for my work (Mechanical Technician on large factories ICI) but after an 11 hr drive decided this was not for us within 2 hrs, just didn’t feel right. Gold Coast we felt 'we could make a new life here' so here we come. OH (Anne) is a Mental Health Nurse (registered with QNC after the nightmare of IELTS) so Gold Coast Hospital & Robina Hospital are handy for that, I myself will have to work on something smaller than I’m used to but we are both grafters and job searching like mad at the moment, any help will be much appreciated. We will be looking for initial rental on Pacific Pines and see what happens to the housing markets over the next few months, and the exchange rate. The 2 boys Jamie 11 years old and Bradley 3 Years old are really looking forward to it especially Jamie I dont think Bradley gets it all. Feel good now we have booked flights, I must admit we were apprehensive even after the long process we have been through getting everything in place, still loads to sort out but now we have a deadline and can’t wait until the taxi picks us up.
