  4. My OH has been working away from home for quite a while now and one side effect of this is I don't really socialise as much as I used to..........or have people around for a bbq as much.It is just not the same with him away[especially the food, he is a chef]. So rather than become a recluse I have decided to organise one big whopper of a bbq right here on PIO.[maybe the worlds biggest???] All are welcome to attend.......all you need to do is bring a plate and a few scoops. The only catch is you cannot bring the exact same dish or drink as someone else. I will set things off by bringing some Whiskey Grilled Pork Ribs and a fine big bottle of 90% proof Irish Poitin[moonshine].That should get the craic goin'. What will you bring to the party?

  7. Those of you within cooee of Canberra, please think about coming to the largest second hand book fair in the Southern Hemisphere (OK so I have no stats to back that up but it would have to go very close!!!) from 25 - 28 September (next weekend) the Lifeline Bookfair is happening at Exhibition Park and it will be amazing. If you love books and want good quality second hand ones very very cheaply this is the place for you!!! All proceeds go to Lifeline Canberra - part of the Lifeline network that provides 24 hour telephone counselling for anyone. Also, if you come to the Bookfair, you can also catch Floriade which is a super flower show (for want of a better phrase) on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin.

  11. Hi, Our family are presently in the process of migrating to south Brisbane. We are aiming to live in a place called Heritage Park, just south of logan and my main concern about the big move is loneliness. I have a great network of friends here in the UK and with 4 kids I shouldnt be lonely but without back up from friends and especially MY MUM not being round the corner im scared im going to feel lonely. The kids will be at school all day, hubby at work. And theres only so much house work someone can do. Im in my late 30's and feel that the majority of people in Australia would have already formed their solid friendships so my question is how how you found making friends? Was it difficult, do the Oz's welcome you in to their network etc etc. Experiences would be appreciated greatly.

    Biggest Loser

Anyone else hooked on this programme? It's like big brother - you watch one to see what it's like and then every night. Anyone think Cosi is so in love with himself? I'd like Sam to win - he's only 19. Ali

    Biggest fear about move

Just thought i'd try and start a thread to see what response i get. Biggest fears about the move. Personally, for myself and family i think my biggest fear is going to be how i cope actually working for somebody as i've been self-employed, been my own boss for a long time. Closely followed by getting our 12 year old settled, because at that age i'm sure it cant be easy for them. :jiggy: :jiggy:
  15. What was your biggest fear for those of you already in oz & what is you biggest fear for those of you about to move to oz ???
