  3. Tourism Australia is running an online campaign at the moment, promoting locations around Australia in short online videos, featuring, backpackers, tour guides etc to lure more young people Down Under to work and play. The Tourism Australia campaign, 30 days in Oz, consists of 30 online videos, each following someone different in locations around Australia, with each demonstrating in 60 seconds why "there's nothing like Australia for young travellers." Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said the campaign would promote the Working Holiday Visa and encourage young people to consider Australia as a place to work or travel, particularly those leaving school or on a Gap Year. "One of Tourism Australia's objectives is to get more young people to holiday in Australia. These travellers often become lifelong advocates, influencing friends and family of all ages to holiday in Australia and returning themselves later in life," he said. "We also know from research that many of these visitors are backpackers, who spend more time travelling and explore more of Australia than other travellers, which is one of the reasons the youth market is such an important one for us." Anyone in Bendigo

Just had an interview in kangaroo flat. I know this may be jumping the gun but they did seem keen and expressed an interest in me moving to bendigo if successful. I know it won't be practical to commute from Melbourne for more than a few weeks or so. I'm after a bit of background on Bendigo it seems nice had a drive round yesterday bit of a frontier town feel bit like geelong and ballarrat to me. Whats it really like? The guy interviewing me said it gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter wondering how hot and how cold. Also my pet subject - creepy crawlies and tiny things that can kill you are there more spiders, snakes etc up there? I do want to get away from Melbourne and the endless suburban sprawl so Bendigo being smaller / slower is a good point for me. The only fly in the ointment could be we're on 457 visa's through the wifes work & she's being sponsored for pr by them in richmond so may have to settle halfway between the two (diggers rest, sunbury) unless I can get sponsored myself - talking to the guy at the interview they say its hard to get skilled people up there. So Bendigo whats it like?????

Hi all. Can anybody out there give any views/opinions good or bad on Bendigo as a place to live, amenities schooling etc. From what I have reseached so far seems ok, but any one with first hand experience of the City would be great. Many thanks.
  10. Hi there, My wife and I have been in Melbourne for about 4 weeks. My wife already had a job in the city prior to us moving here, but I've just landed myself a job in Bendigo to start just over a week! So we are thinking of moving somewhere between Bendigo and Melbourne (so we both can get to work in less than an hour) or closer to Bendigo of there's no other option. Is there anyone out there who could either recommend something or offer to rent a room/flatlet for us until we find something more longer term? Any help offered would be most appreciated Cheers

    How about Bendigo?

Looking to move to regional Victoria and quite fancy a move to Bendigo. My wife is a primary teacher and I am looking for a job in health and safety. We have two 10 year old girls who alter between real excitement at the prospect to a real fear! Still can't wait and now if our agents could pull the finger out ! Cheers :mask:Stewart
