  1. WE need rain, when did you think we would be saying that in the UK :wideeyed: It has been the driest years since records began. It has been so mild that they are saying the birds are starting to nest again  is this global warming I ask. Thursday, 17 November 2011 Exceptionally dry weather could lead to drought in 2012, say water companies Concerns over depleting groundwater levels and shortage of supply as forecasters expect a second mild winter in a row Half of all UK households face the threat of drought restrictions in the new year if rainfall does not return to normal this winter. Following some of the driest weather on record over the last year, water suppliers urged customers to start making savings to help cope with low levels in reservoirs, rivers and underground aquifers. The latest appeals by Thames Water and South East Water follow the announcement by Anglian Water this week that it has applied for a drought permit to take emergency supplies out of rivers. With temperatures in parts of England still exceptionally mild, there is now growing concern about what will happen if – as some forecasters expect – there is a second dry winter in a row. http://www.u.tv/News/Exceptionally-dry-weather-could-lead-to-drought-in-2012-say-water-companies/d1018969-f85f-4aaf-ad81-ca65c116ec92
  2. Hi all, I have been doing research into my husbands trade, he is a fully qualified and registered Plumber who has been running his own business for 20 years here in the UK. From what I have read, UK plumbers dont seem to to very well in AU. He is on good money here and we are not rich but live a nice life here in the UK. I understand he will need to retrain and resit all his exams to get qulified in AU for around a 6 month period. That is ok, but after that I believe work is quite scarce without years of AU experience and many plumbers end up doing just about any work they can find to get by. Is this true? We dont want to move to the other side of the world and life becomes a struggle! Many thanks in advance. P.S. If i should post this on another section please let me know!

How it all began for you?..

..just interested how people found PIO in the first place, at what stage in their emigration process and how it has helped them?..i was hunting around a few forums for a while and stopped at PIO just to have a look, started reading threads and was hooked..it was the forum for me..friendly and informative..we already had our visa's, but it has been so helpful in that everyone is sharing in a common interest..it covers people just starting out to many living in Aus and gives a broad spectrum of opinions..i really enjoy being part of it.. 4. Hi all! Just a little update for all you guys not in the UK....we have had, or should I say, we are having, the wettest June since records began. Yesterday was the wettest June day also, and there is major flooding in lots of the UK. Worst affected areas are: Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Wales and parts of the West Country:sad:. Norfolk had 4 inches of rain yesterday. Parts of the M1, M18 and M62 are closed, three people have lost their lives. Some people were trapped on a roof in Sheffield and have had to be airlifted to safety. There is great concern at the moment about a dam on a reservoir in Yorkshire which looks like it might give out under all the pressure of water.Worksop town centre is flooded. Today in Lincolnshire it is dry thankfully, but cold. Predicted max of 15deg c today with strong, gusty northerly winds. Hope all you PIOzzers are safe and dry. Rachel x
