  3. There you go Lemmings! I am sure there could be a job here for you:tongue: The US Government is measuring up Exmouth as the site of a multi-million dollar space tracking station that will see Australia become a key partner in the battle for dominance in space. The Australian Defence Department confirmed yesterday that a US team left the Harold E. Holt naval communication station last week after a fortnight-long visit. US Air Force personnel were investigating WA's North West Cape for the expansion of the US Space Surveillance Network. The top-secret station would be a joint facility with Australia to address the limited space-tracking capability in the southern hemisphere. Ground-based radar and optical stations would b used to spy on foreign satellites and monitor dangerous space junk. The Harold E. Holt naval communications station, which is used by the US Navy, is believed to be the US Government's preferred location over two other locations - thought to be remote islands in the Indian Ocean. Russell Levien, manager of the Harold E. Holt station, said US Air Force personnel were joined on the visit by representatives of two American defence technology companies which are bidding to win the contract to build the space-tracking station. "They were here doing a site survey, looking at the suitability of putting a radar site here for finding space debris," he said. A Defence Department official said yesterday that the Federal Government was working closely with the US to explore opportunities to establish joint facilities in Australia to address limited space surveillance in the southern hemisphere. "The sensors would undertake monitoring and tracking of orbiting space-based objects using ground-based radar and optical stations," the official said. "Space debris has the potential to damage valuable satellites." Space is cluttered with $600 billion worth of civil and military hardware. The Defence official said the US and Australian space-tracking partnership would generate more defence co-operation with the US. Mr Levien said the US Government was expected to make a decision within a year. He said if Exmouth was chosen the station would be built by local contractors on defence land and buildings in the former US naval base would be re-occupied.
  4. Hi there. just got offered a role in the bank, and the bank agreed to pay X amount of base salary however when I check the contract, It states that I would only get paid X amount if I dont take RDOs(Roster day off)- working 160 hours in 20 hours. and if I keep the standard 152hrs 19 days and RDO every 4 weeks then i will get paid less amount? I would have thought the agreed base salary is for the standard terms with RDOs every four weeks. what is the common practice in OZ?

  8. Calling all pommie football fans on the Gold Coast that miss the one good thing about the uk. Gold Coast United is the fledgling A-League team on the Gold Coast (currently in its first year of operation). I have been a Brisbane supporter for 2.5 years, but am moving to Gold Coast in Jan and will be within 3 mins bus ride of the stadium, hence my loyalty has quickly vanished and I already own the Gold and blue top of GCU. The fan base still has room to grow, although it is doing very well for its first year and the team itself is doing amazingly (currently 3rd). The stadium is in Robina, next home match is on 9th Jan. All comers welcome, and if you fancy a drink before the game, the supporters group meet in RQ's pub in Robina before hand, with a free bus put on to take you direct to the stadium. It's not like the footy used to be/can be in the uk in that it is very family friendly and there is no agro. I took my 3yo daughter to the game on boxing day and she has been going to the Brisbane games since she was 2yo. So, if you are interested, give it a go, come along. Any questions, just let me know (I'm still a newbie to this club so my answers may be delayed/second hand!). The finals start in Feb/March and GCU will def be a part of that. The atmosphere should be great in the fantastic brand new stadium. Hope to see you there/hear from you soon!

    Skill matching Data Base

When I sent off my PC's & change of circumstance form, I also completed Form 47SK (skills match). I've received an email saying that my skills were put onto the data base today and would stay on for 2 years or until I migrate to Aus - has anyone had prospective employers contact them via this route? and more importantly would they put me on the data base if I wasn't going to be granted a visa??? At least I know that my PC's arrived safely, I was begining to think they'd got lost in the post. Ali
