  1. any electrician wanting info on licencing, jobs, artc, tra or vettesses i`d recommend that you also look here for information Electricians : British Expat Discussion Forum i know its a link to another site but as there is so much info there it would be phyically impossble to repost it all here, and at the end of the day this is about sharing info with others in the hope it helps someone regards steve ( an electrical contractor working and making a living in australia )
  2. Hey, Im after some assistance in my UK trade & qualifications 'converting' to Australian Qualifications. I successfully completed a; Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Engineering I also have the following; Advanced Diploma in Engineering and Technology (Electrical/Electronic) BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations NVQ Level 3 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering Whilst completing my apprenticeship & these qualifications I worked for an electrical manufacturing company for 4-5years so have hands on experience. I am already a Permanent Resident of Australia having been here for 4 years already, I have just recently applied to become a citizen. I have done some digging around on the internet and reckon my trade is similar to a cert 3 engineering:electrical/electronic. I have also found that this trade maybe eligible for a electrical license but thats just going by internet forums. I am completely stuck on what to do and where to go so If you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I keep being told to head down the TRA route but Im not to sure on what to apply under as Electrical Fitter is more an Electrician but then think I maybe eligible?!?!
  3. Hi all, I am a 27 year old electrician hoping to move to Perth in a couple of months. I am heading over on a working holiday visa which I already have, but I am currently awaiting the return of my ARTC skills recognition cert. from TRA in Australia. I need this to be able apply for my gap training course over there which will allow me to work legally in western Oz. I was just wondering if anyone has gone through this recently and if so, how long did it take to get the ARTC approved?? I have been told the current waiting time is 8 wks, but have heard it has gone up to 12 weeks. Also I am hoping to get job sponsorship through the 457 visa program when I get there. This will help me bring my partner and son (7) over. Hopefully this won't take too long!! Has anyone gone through this and if so how long did it take??
  4. Hi All, Are there any electricians out there who have recently gained this certificate. I also understand that you have to do a practical test if so can you tell me what is involved for this test regards kelvino

    Tra & artc

Hi all, Anyone have an update on the processing times for TRA? Im waiting on an ARTC assessment so I can apply for my refrigeration license in Australia. Thanks Rick
  7. Hi guys. i am coming to Australia on a working holiday visa, and looking for sponsorship as an electrician. i have just been assessed as Electrical mechanic and an ARTC has been granted. This was assessed by the local trades committee in QLD. Apparently i need to apply for a restricted licence. where do i go about getting this from ? how long will it take. I have heard lots of conflicting stories about licensing. can i go to Adelaide with my ARTC and sit the wiring regs course at PEER ? will this give me an A grade licence. can i then transfer by mutual recognition ? PLEASE HELP IT'S DOING MY HEAD IN :arghh: THANKS BEN
  8. Hi there, I have a couple of questions about getting my quals and experience recognised in Oz... if anyone has been through the system with the same level of qualifications and experience as me, I would be really interested in hearing about it... I'll explain a little about where I am... I am currently applying with TRA as a gas fitter for the purposes of a visa (it's cheaper than using VETASSESS as an electrician). However, I would also like my electrical qualifications and experience recognised. I understand that if TRA successfully assessed me and issued an ARTC, then once some additional training had been done with PEER in SA or CET in WA, a full grade A license can be obtained. My uncertainty is that I don't have C&G 2360 or 2330... I am just an NIC registered Domestic Installer, with a full scope license and 17th Edition. I have plenty of experience rewiring houses, fault finding, testing and certifying but only in the domestic field. I'm not sure if my quals and experience will be enough for an ARTC? Has anyone else on this forum applied for ARTC, only being a Domestic Installer? My other question is about when to apply... I have read that a few people on here have applied for ARTC whilst still being in the UK (from a thread in Sept 2011)... I thought that an ARTC can only being applied for with a valid visa to work and an Aussie address? Can anyone who has any experience of this tell me how they managed to apply whilst still in the UK? Did you give an Aussie address on your app or were you honest? Thanks in advance guys - this forum is sooooo helpful!

    ARTC and 856 Visa

Hi, I am having trouble with my 856 visa, I applied through TRA to have my skills assessed for the visa, all granted OK. Visa was lodged and case officer issued, says I need a licence. Applied for licence using TRA outcome assessment and it got rejected saying I need an ARTC from TRA. This application seems identical to the one I've already done successfully but just with a diff certificate! Can anyone shed any light on if my TRA for migration can be converted to ARTC without starting again from TRA as their wait is massive at the moment I think. Thanks Rick

    Assistance with ARTC

Hi, Does anyone know of any companies that assist with doing the ARTC for electricians? We are submitting our state sponsorship and visa application ourselves but would like help with this part (obviously once our visas are granted). If there are no companies that do this specifically, can anyone recommend a migration agent that would do this with specialist skills in this area/occupation? Thanks!

    ARTC

ARTC Hi. I am matt, been in sydney since June 2009 and love it except for this matter!!!! For those in the know ARTC stands for Australian Recognised Trade Certificate. This is basically a department who deals with trades such as mine Electrical, now you have to complete lots of paperwork, copy certs, letters of all sorts and info. Not an easy application to do I can assure you. By the way if anything in your application os wrong or they require more, you have to submit it with the original sum of 300 aus dollars again. Thats right the application costs 300$ and if they want more or say no it costs $300 each time... Now, this is where my problem lies. Has anyone else found out how useless they are. My application has been in since 19th March 2011 and I have tried communicating with them but they offer no help. I am receiving lots of pressure from my company who I am on a 457 visa with and they want to cancel the visa even though it has been granted. Can they just cancel it??? I have not worked since the application date above and am starting to pull my hair out... I have spoken, to the tra, immi, diac, immigration officers, artc representatives... Anyone Know of anyone, anything else i can do, talk too, communicate with anything. Before i do just throw my hands up in the air and give up... Please help a fellow pommy out. plllleeeeeaaaaaassssssseeeee Thanks for reading this. Pom Pom
  14. we are emigrating to australia in october 2011. i have a successful TRA skills assessment. I am a boilermaker. I have been informed that i now need to apply for an ARTC certificate to allow me to work as a boilermaker over in oz. i have been on the website and it looks like i have to apply for this all over again, and submit all the references, job details, apprentiship details etc that i originally submitted when i did the TRA. just seems like a lot of work when iv already done all this. any advice would be great. i just assumed once i was successful with TRA that that would be it, but i guess i was wrong regards danny

    ARTC

Hi there My husband is a diesel fitter by trade, and we have our permanent visa's in place and are hoping to make the big move before Christmas. I have read about the ARTC online and I wonder if you can tell me if it is worth him applying for this? Will it significantly help him when looking for a job? Of course we want to get as much in place as possible to give him full advantages! His skills/experience/qualifications have all been successfully assessed in order for the visa to be granted, so we are just not sure if we need to apply for an ARTC also. Many thanks

  19. Hi, my OH is an Instrument technician working in an oil refinery for the last 17yrs before that he was a qualified electrician. We are moving to WA and he would be looking for work in another refinery or power station etc but a lot of instrumentation jobs ask for an a grade license, can he get that with a Electrical fitters (instrument) grading or does he need to be an electrical mechanic? What extra stuff would he need to be able to reapply for a electrical mechanic? very confused with all this license stuff!!!!! Hubby got so stressed with it all he came very close to packing it all in. Please someone help! Sarah & Trev
  20. Hi All I have a problem that i'm sure a wiser person than me will know the answer to here goes. I am applying for an ARTC for my job as a sparks, a very kind person from poms in adelaide site has let me use her address in Australia for the purpose of form filling so i can recieve the certificate instead of the ARTC hanging on to it and me having to chase it up when i arrive, however on the form if i put down the Australian address the next part of the form asks what type of visa i have and how long i have been in Australia, so do i tell a small fib and pretend i am there already or fill out the form with uk address and deal with the issues of trying to get the cert when i get there Any help would be great cheers Neil :arghh:
  21. Hi All Can anyone give us some info on the ARTC(Australian recognised trade certs)? If you have already been assessed by the TRA for migration purposes do you need to send ofF copies of your certificats to the ARTC or do they keep all the info from your TRA app, i think i read that you only need to send copies of visa and ID with the application for your ARTC but i want to be 101% sure. Any advice would be gratefully recieved, Thanks, Lisa,

    Filling in ARTC form

Hi, need advice from anyone who has filled out the ARTC form! When it comes to the qualification section what do you do if you have completed more than one apprenticiship? My husband has done one in Electrical Installation & in Instrumentation & Control so we would like to be able to put them both down plus his additional qualification in Instrumentation. We have the TRA under General Electronic Instrument Tradesperson so would like to show both qualifications. Am I making any sense? Have been staring at the damn form for ages and I think that I am begining to confuse myself with it all! We really want this to be granted first time round and not have to reapply. Any advice welcome! Thanks Sarah
  23. I am an electrician looking for some advice on how to set out the section on 'description of your work'. I've been an electrician for nearly 22 years and worked across domestic, commercial and industrial. Putting all that down on paper would be bordering on a war and peace type epic (no I haven't wired the world just most of it). Anyone with ideas on how best to trim it down and just give the main relevant and required bits would be gratefully appreciated.
  24. I am not sure which career to apply for as I have meant years experience in plumbing , welding and have qualifications for Refrigeration . Only as its so hard with all the licence you need I am not sure which to go for. As I believe you can only apply for 1 at a time that its not like the UK. I don't mind if I have to do extra training as I belive thats how things are done. But I would like to sort out my ARTC whilist in the UK as I belive it takes ages to do. Hope some one can help me out on this please Garry
