  1. Hi guys, I've spent countless hours reading about the best palces to live in Sydney and still have so many options for us that I thought I would ask for all of your great advice. My wife and I (both 35) are moving to Sydney in Q1/Q2 next year. I will need to be within a reasonable commuting distance from the CBD. I don't mind train, bus (up to 45 mins) or a cycle (of up to 10 - 15KM). We want to be by the water - although not too worried about beach (sailing and fishing ability is more important than sand and surf). We're also bringing over our two cats - so looking for somewhere leafy and quiet, but with decent restaurants etc. We have a budget of $800 to $1000 per week and would be looking for a 3 bed house. We love the look of Avalon, but it just seems too much of a commute - is it an hour? (I currently do 1 1/2 hours into London on the train and getting away from this is part of the reason for moving). We've heard both good and bad things about the Shire (places on the Georges River). We like the look of the area, but we're young and into our art/music/cutlure and we hear the Shire is quite conservative and quiet (not that this is particularly bad - just what we are picking up from the web). Manly/Mosaman are in great locations - but for the money it looks like you'd end up living in a box. Balmain looks great - but is it too inner city / urban for our two (currently village living) cats? Any advice would be very welcome as I am sure many of you have had the same dilema... Many thanks, Mr Choo

    Trying a new approach

Hey friends, how is everyone this morning? I must say thankyou to all whom posted on our thread about giving up just now, the lovely words and support are magic. Were still sticking by our desicion but on the flip side have decided that one of will retrain to obtain our goal of living in oz. I attempted uni but the sheer cost of it all meant it was impossible, so it will lay with Jamie to retrain. He works at weekends and the odd weekdays doing gasfitting as a kind of apprentice with a qualified gas and heating engineer who is a close friend. They would both love for jamie to become his full time apprentice but he just cant afford to employ him full time. But the experience jamie has gained has been wonderful and he loves the work, so weve checked with British Gas and luckily they are recruiting apprentices in our area just now so were going to apply and see what happens. It would mean taking a wage cut of about 6k per year but its something we,ll have to deal with, if hes successful in the application. So does anyone in the field have any tips at all for his application? I may be reporting back in a month that we have got no where but its worth a try? Thanks again kel:wubclub:
  3. At what part of your Visa application would you start to approach potential employers??? I'm looking at a good 2 years (being reallistic) till I'll be setting foot in Oz for good. Do you think I'd be wasting my time doing it now?
  4. Hi there.I'm coming to Perth sometime in Dec 09' to look for work. I install/service/maintain air con systems and just wondered if anyone has any contacts for me to approach.. Thanx all Lez from Wolves.
  5. Well theres lots of threads about what you will miss..so I though't I'd start one of what you won't miss  ..collecting the kids together to go to the swimming pool in the rain ..not going to the swimming pool because of the rain! ..being squashed on the trains and planes to get to work ..being injured by a rogue Sainsbury's trolley ..acting like Sterling Moss round the car parks just to find that space! ..waiting for my 2 week sunshine holiday once a year ..always thinking 'what if...'
