  1. Hi I have just submitted the paper part of my vetassess assessment for the Refrigeration and Air-conditioning ASCO Number 4312-11 and as I understand it if I am successful in this part I will be asked to do a day’s assessment somewhere in the U.K. I would like to know if anyone has been on this assessment day and what the day involved. How many people take the assessment in one day? How is the assessment done? What tests where you asked to do on what type of equipment? How long the assessment takes is there an exam and did you have to take your own tools? Or where tolls provided? I have had a look on this forum and have found a page that talks about the assessment but it is missing a good break down of what you are expected to do on the day I would appreciate some knowledge of the assessment before I turn up on the day thanks Rick

  4. Hello, I have a Lotus Elise that I just love driving, slow/fast not important. It doesn't have air-con (or much else for that matter!)... not an issue in not so sunny Newcastle upon Tyne, but it's in mint condition so I'd like to export it to Australia when I eventually go there, am I setting myself up to get cooked alive? I've read through Iron Chefs thread so know exporting it's going to be a pain, any fellow petrol heads care to give me some advice on whether or not it's worth the headache of going through all that? Early days yet, but probably moving to Melbourne if that helps!
  5. Hi all, Im current working as an hvac commissioning engineer in england and im moving to perth next month. Can anyone tell me is a commissioning engineer the same in england as it is in oz? Also I have a CSA qualification. Will this help me get a job in oz or will I need to do some exams when I get there? And if anyone knows of some hvac commisssioning companys to contact when I arrive that would be great. Any help would be great!! Thanks Matt.
  6. Well ..... had a bit of a shock to see how many houses (all around Brissy) don't have air-con! We just assumed it would be a no-brainer! We're viewing a few houses in Manly "that catch the sea breezes" (hmmm, we shall see...). Should we even be considering them without aircon - bearing in mind we are brits and have been here only 2 weeks ? Looking for advise from those who have experienced the Brissy summers :wubclub:
  7. Looking to put about 6-7 aircons into our home towards the end of this year after current tennents vacate.House is bog standard 4 bedroom,2 lounge o/plan kitchen/dining room in Sippy Downs! Any reccommendations welcome?
  8. Last summer i was lucky (although my wallet wasn't) to live in a fully ducted apartment, but now i'm in an old house with no aircon, just ceiling fans. Had some pretty hot days and nights the last couple of weeks and its been fine really, bit sweaty but nothing shocking. What about everyone else, anyone else not got air?

Ooooh its getting a bit warm! Any suggestions re: air con, I'm sitting in Melbourne with 2 fans blasting at me and a galileo thermometer on max (its British so it only goes up to 26 degrees). anyhoo since the house I'm in is rented and without air-con I'm not paying to have it installed so my options are portable air-con $400-600 or portable evaporative coolers $100 each. Does anyone have any experience of either as we are getting a bit pissy in the heat. Ta,
  10. Has anyone had problems with anything that has CFC in it, ie the fridge, a car with aircon etc, which is classed as precharged equipment and apparently needs a licence to be imported into Australia.

    Air-Con Melbourne?

Im hoping someone can offer me some advice.... im going to be coming out to Melbourne with my girlfriend next year on a working holiday visa and i have been looking at one bedroom flats mostly near the CBD & st.kilda areas. i see that alot of the flats dont have air-con? how does that work, it gets hot in england and i have trouble sleeping. i know melbourne isnt the hottest OZZY city but it does get hot in the summer right..???? so whats the deal with that?
