  1. Hi fellow PIO members, My husband and I have just been discussing what we'll do with regards to flights. Have you found flights to be a lot cheaper if booked in advance (months) or not that much difference/same if booked with only a matter of weeks before? Look forward to your replies. AC
  2. Are you still able to check baggage in 24 hr in advance? This would be with singapore airlines. I knnow years ago we could but not sure these days?
  3. Hi, I want to do a course in advance Operating systems / kernel programming in and around SYD area. Can someone recomend any good universities where such a course would be available ? Would the university allow taking up independent courses like the its in US ? Thanks in advance, Suni
  4. Hi guys, I've read a fair bit about this on the site - apologies if I'm repeating other posts but I can't seem to find the answer. I was going to 'fron load' my application with police and medical checks etc. But I found out the other day that it is best to wait until the medical is requested, as they decide which doctors to send you too. Is this correct? I am applying, in the UK, then going travelling for four months in Italy straight afterwards so it would be a real pain to go back to the UK for my medical. Any ideas on the best way to do this? Many thanks in advance, I really appriciate the advice of people who have gone / are going through this! Cheers, Liz
  5. Hi- do you get best deals for booking flights to Oz well in advance- hoping visa will go through in next couple of months but cant leave UK till July 2010. Would we be best to book flights early once we have visa to get a good deal ? Or leave till a few months before we go ?
  6. I know that for most of you this is pretty boring information but for me it's a major step forward. From the Qantas industry sales site. latest qantas news international advance seat selection & international online check-in 18 june 2009 Qantas has introduced international online check-in and advance seat selection, expanding the range of services available to customers. international online check-in Customers whose first sector of their itinerary is on a Qantas operated and marketed flight can check in and print their boarding pass between 24 hours and 2 hours prior to their flight departure. Customers may also enjoy a faster airport experience with dedicated online check-in counters for bag drop and visa checks. international advance seat selection From 18 june 2009, chairmans lounge, platinum, gold and silver frequent flyers travelling internationally will be able to request a seat via Qantas.com once they have completed their reservation. By logging on to "manage your booking", eligible frequent flyers will see a 'select seats' button which takes them to a seat map showing available seats to request for their international booking. Please note for any Qantas domestic travel, a seating preference panel will be displayed on Qantas.com with the opportunity for eligible frequent flyers to enter an aisle or window preference for a domestic flight number.
  7. HI all, Well, it certainly looks like the flipping house is not going to be sold prior to going and as so, we have to sell everything to try and scrape the funds together to get the deposit and rent up front. And as i only have a banger and hubby has a company car , it will be a major stuggle. I have heard on PIO that some people are asked to pay six mnths rent in advance plus one mnths rent as a deposit . Is this the case , what have been your experiences ? Bit stressed now, as i can't see how we'll manage ...............stupid fliping housing market!!!!!!!:arghh: Thanks everyone.
  8. Hi, Its probably really simple, but can anybody explain how to go about supplying your medical and police checks to DIAC before they are requested by a case officer. Susie and I are posting our application form next week (if we ever get the thing finished:-) and were wondering how we would go about sending in our medicals and police checks before the case officer requests them. We're impatient like the rest of you, and so plan to request our checks to coincide with the average 3-4 month wait to be assigned a case officer, but just incase we get the timing wrong we are curious how to send of the checks and effectively "front-load" the application. Anybody got insider knowledge, or tips. Cheers... Chris
  9. morning all, we sent off our tra application about 10 days ago now. we spoke to our agent (mick breen destinaton oz) as we thought we would start gathering our stuff for the visa. we had originally been told that the visa would be granted in about 4-6mths but it has taken us so long to get all the stuff for the tra that we are now being told that it could take anyting from 8-10 months from when the appointed visa processer has it in his/her hand. apparently the immigation dept in adelaide is suffering huge back logs. i am gutted, stupid i know, my hubby is much more relaxed about it but i really hoped to be in oz by july/aug so the children wouldn't start another school year here. when we moved here from ireland it was to be a short stop until our visa's came through, i suppose this has thrown me cos ididn'texpect to be renting the house that we are in (which i hate) for so long e.c.t........ the list is endless, please forgive the whining, i generally am not a moan and always find the positives in things but its just eluding me at the moment, thanks for listening, can't sayi feel better but at least i got to vent!! judith. minus the happy husband and the 3adventuers (for this post anyway)
  10. Guest

    Thanks in advance!!

I feel I should introduce myself whilst saying thanks to the creator of this site!! My family - Kaye, (The wife and boss!!) Ben 4 and Emily 2, are looking forward to starting a new life in Brisbane early next year. We are at the first stage of the long road ahead, just about to submit my qualifications to the TRA. I am sure that I will be leaning on you more experienced people to answer all the silly questions that I would feel far too embarrassed to be asking elsewhere, so I will thank you in advance!
