  1. Hi, I've just moved to Sydney from London to start a new chapter and experience living abroad. So far I've seen lots of things and and there's still so much to do, but starting to get a bit bored not having anyone to experience these things with. If anyone is in the same situation and wants a buddy to explore Sydney with, drop us a message. If there's loads of us, was thinking of organising karaoke or cafe meet ups or even activity days (blue mountains / segways etc) on the weekends to break the boredness. Anywho, hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine!
  2. On previous posts Iv made it known im flying into Perth on the 1st of October with a view of staying there for at least 3 months. However, after looking through many threads, there is a lot of negativity shown towards Perth. What I want to know is it really that bad? Iv heard things like very rude people, terrible night scene & lack of amenities etc? If this is the case I may not stay in Perth all that long as I really desire to go to Melbourne as I hear its a terrific place to be. If anyone who has traveled Perth as a backpacker or even as a resident who can shed some light on Perth & some of things iv heard id really appreciate it. Thanks guys! Leigh
  3. Hey, i'm going to be 17 when we move to oz and i'd like to know what sort of out of school, activities there are for a girl of my age. If anybody has any information about stuff could they please let me know cos I would love to try something new when we finally move. Also, can anybody tell me what the education system is like over there? Thanks, Meg xxx:jimlad:
  4. Hi to everyone, Can anyone tell me if things like soccer (uk football) cricket etc are very expensive in Australia? My 7 year old does karate in UK and it's only around 5 pounds per session. We have friends in Sydney and there son who is 6 plays in a local soccer team. The cost per term is $160. We think this is just ridiculous and hope that most sporting activities are not really expensive, otherwise our little one will not be doing much!! Any advice greatly welcome!

    Activities / Social groups

I am curious about what activities or social groups new migrants got involved in or pursued to help them settle in or make friends. Was it similar to what you did in the UK or did you take up a new hobby when you arrived? Same question to people that are about to go. Do you plan to take up a new hobby when you get there or continue an existing passion? Andy

    Activities in Melbourne Area

Hi, We are in the process of moving to Melbourne or surrounding area and would love some advice and help with regards to the activities available and where it's best to live, so that we don't have to spend the time driving hours to get to them all. We like scuba diving, coast walking and cycling. We have a little girl, who will be about two when we move over. (Later this year). We already take her walking and cycling with us, but obviously not the diving as yet. Would love to hear your experiences or advice on this, as we really want to get it right. We have already looked the Geelong area, but from what I have seen it's a bit limited for diving, so we were now thinking of the East side of Melbourne?!? Look forward to hearing your views All the best Charles and Kathy
  7. Morning all.... We have just booked our flights ahead of our move/return to the beautiful Dandenong Ranges in Victoria and I've just spent an hour cancelling direct debits for our children's out of school activities. It got me wondering what sort of prices we can expect to be paying for similar things in Oz. Would be great if a few of you could just make a note of what activities your kids do and what sort of prices you are paying. I've noted down ours below..... Karate - £60 per child, per month. Up to 4 lessons per week. Swimming Lessons - £45 per child for a full term (10 weeks) 1 lesson per week. Ballet - £55 per child for a full term (10 weeks) 1 lesson per week. Tap/Modern - £55 per child for a full term (10 weeks) 1 lesson per week. Street Dance - £2.50 per session. Pay as you go. All adds up....WOW...

ACT Kids' Activities and yoga for me

My three girls love their extracurricular activities. Can anyone recommend dance schools (my girls do tap and ballet) and riding stables? Also, I would like to keep the younger two in swimming lessons if possible. Any recommendations would be greatly welcomed. Can anyone recommend a place to do yoga as well? It helps keep me calm and centered and I can see needing it with such a big move!
  9. Hi, We have just moved to Lane Cove North (myself, my husband, and our 2.5 year old son), and I am desparate to meet some new people! I was wondering if anyone knew any details of any playgroups or other activities in the area? At the moment we have no car (although I'm hoping to sort that soon!) but can eaily travel by bus to places. If anyone has any ideas I would be really grateful (equally, if anyone wants to meet up for a coffee/chat, that would also be fantastic!) Many thanks!

    kids activities

Hi all Yet another minor question thats cropped up in my head! At the moment my 2 kids aged 8 (girl) & 12(boy) are involved in a fair few activities .My daughter goes to dancing club and also does swimming and gymnastics, My lad does swimming and gymnastics too. Is there good provision for these type of activities in Australia. Daughter was also learning to murder (sorry play) the violin and it'd be nice if she could take it up again once we get to Oz.Also do the schoold provide after school clubs such as tennis, footie etc..? Any info would as usual be very much appreciated. Mandy x

    Kids Activities in Perth

Hi Guys Am planning on moving over to Perth end of May 2007! I've a 3 year old boy and wondered what sort of activities there will be for him? He has been at playschool here since September, but I believe he won't start Kindy in Oz until Feb 2008, so that's quite alot of time with no interactive. I take it Kindy is the same as Playschool here, but is there anything before Kindy? Will be living in Thornlie, so any information on swimming lessons, dance classes, kids activity centre's etc would be greatly appreciated. Just realised, I should probably have posted this on the Perth section of the forum, sorry! Thanks Sam xxx
