  1. I am currently on a 485 visa that is due to expire on the 11th of May. Once I finish my SMIPA course on the 10th of April, I will have the additional 5 points to qualify for the 60 points benchmark. I am worried that my invitation will not come in time before my current visa expires. Can anyone give me some advise? I will be using accounting as nominated occupation. I believe I can only wait for 2 invitation round (24 April and 8 May) before my current visa expires.
  2. Evening All, I've recently swapped from a commercial accounting role into a Sales account manager role within my firm. In the process, my 457 has also changed. Before this change I was eligible to apply for permanent residency through an accounting selection. My question is, now that I am in a Sales role in Australia, can I still apply for an accounting PR? My intention is to go back to commercial finance after 12-18months with the experience I gain in Sales. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tommy
  3. Hi, I currently have a number of roles for Accounting Professionals with CIMA/CPA/CA qualifications and experience in either management accounting or financial/commercial analysis. Ideally you will have experience within a large and complex commercial entities. Please PM me if you are interested. Jenny
  4. I am a recently arrived accountant looking to start up a business here similar to the one I had in the UK where I used to provide book keeping, accounting and financial planning advice and services to small/owner managed businesses. I am a fully qualified Chartered Accountant in the UK and qualify for reciprocal membership of the Australian accountancy body equivalent (although without the local experience). Anyone out there on the forum done the same or have experience of something similar? I am particularly interested in whether you have been able to find sufficient work without going the down the route of qualifying as a BAS Agent or Tax Agent and what are the limits of what you can do without those registrations.
  5. I am soon to be a newly qualified ACA accountant with audit experience in a Big 4 company. I am considering a move to Oz in November and would like to move in to an Industry role. I was wondering how difficult it would be to obtain a job and would I need to apply for a skilled Visa rather than a WHV? How much money would you need to get yourself sorted out there? I have friends living in Melbourne and that would be where I would be considering my move to. Would it be wiser to get post qualified experience in industry in Ireland first? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
  6. Hi, I am a qualified accounting technician seeking a career in Accountancy in Australia with an employer who will provide me with sponsorship. I am planning on becoming a chartered accountant and so would love to proceed with this in Australia. If anyone can help me I would be eternally grateful!!! Any location in Oz is could for me!! Thanks  Vicky
  7. Hi guys Been a lurker on the forums for a couple of years and thought it was now time to get involved having submitted my initial EOI to skill select last week. Before I progress can I just say to the forum members that the level of information and advice I have found through these pages has been immense and anything I can do in return will never repay the debt I owe to all of you. It has been both heart warming and heart wrenching to follow the journeys of some of the more active posters and I hope I can offer something back once I have my own migration experience to share. To the matter at hand. I need to have my skills assessed by one of the accounting bodies in Australia (chosen occupation is General Accountant) and I wanted to check if anyone had a similar experience. I believe that my mix of academic and professional qualifications fulfills the relevant 'knowledge areas' but I am unsure as to whether the assessing authorities will allow me to use both academic and professional qualifications in my assessment? For the record, I have an undergraduate degree in Economics (2000), a post-graduate diploma in IT (2001), an MBA (2011) and the advanced diploma in Management Accounts from CIMA (2012). Kennedy101
  8. Hi guys, Can anyone tell me if the AAT qualification is recognised in OZ? Accountant is on the skilled list, but they don't say at what level! Regards,

  10. Hi, I wonder what you all think... Both the online application and the various accounting bodies all say they can provide an assessment of your skilled experience, and that the opinion will be considered for points allocation post July11. But nowhere does it say you HAVE to get your experience assessed or it will not be counted. My personal reading of this is I can still provide proof of employment and experience and it will probably be accepted, that the assessment just provides certainty that the experience will be acceptable. I don't actually need the points, but I am probably going to get it assessed anyway, better safe than sorry.. But what do you all think? Thanks Nats

Moving to Yanchep near Joondalup WA. Does anyone know of any good Accounting/Finance courses or companies that take on trainees for the over 40's. (yeah, I know its a bit late for starting a new career:sad:). Would appreciate some help. TAFE seems to offer nothing. Ideally want an apprenticeship but any advice would do. Thanks Lisa:wink:
  12. Hi, Am currently negotiating with a Big 4 accounting firm for a consulting role on a 457 visa. While the salary numbers are being discussed, they have not mentioned LAFHA yet. Can anyone tell me if these firms pay LAFHA in Perth? I was hoping that, with their large HR bureaucracy, they will offer LAFHA and am expecting them to offer it on their own. Will appreciate any help I can get. Cheers!

    Accounting grads

I noticed that accounting grads have the option of filing 88x by nominating one of the four different choices. Three of them being accountants and the other one being auditor. Almost the entire backlog exists in General Accountants category because the other two types came into existence after July. Assuming that draconian Coalition comes into power, Accounting will be the next profession besides IT to face the chopping board. If external auditors and accountants are both in Group 3 ... ( and probably will be in WA SMP going by the 'Jobs list' announced earlier) Isn't it a better idea to file the visa as an external auditor. That way we safeguard ourselves against capping and the ability to get SS from a state without having to compete with those who nominated Accounting as their occupation. I know there must some pitfalls to this approach and I was hoping other accounting grads could come up with their list of pro's and cons

    Accounting Qualifications

Hi Does anyone know if a BSC (Honours) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes Unversity via ACCA would be a recognised qualification for an accountant in Australia? Thanks
  16. :unsure:Hi, I'm from an Asian country, came to Oz on a student visa and did a post-grad course with an accounting major. I applied for an offshore 175 visa along the way and recently got PR. I've also just completed my course and am looking to apply for graduate jobs. My apprehension is that since I'm not a native English speaker, the overall flavour of my resume might be too 'Asian' in terms of language or syntax and would put off potential employers. I would really appreciate getting in touch with someone whom I can PM and get some feedback on my resume. I'm not sure this forum is the right place for such a request, and if this is the case, please accept my apologies.
  17. Hello Everybody, I was hoping that someone could advise me on which visa to pursue. I am a UK citizen currently on a 1 year working VISA (417) date of entry 31/12/2009. My aim is to become a member of the CPA (www.cpaaustralia.com.au) while working full time in Perth. I have a UK degree in Accounting and have been positively assessed by the CPA for admittance into their programme. Generally the programme last between 2-5 years depending on how many modules you take. Under my current VISA I am allowed to study for 4months in total. Could anyone advise which VISA would best suit me in the short & long term and what the approx. cost would be? Additional Info: -Age: 24 -Previously worked in accounting for 18 months prior to coming to Australia -Have an Australian girlfriend -My intention is to stay long term If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated as I have been suffering some serious information overload while looking into the possible VISA's. Thanks in advance. Kyle.

Hi I am a member of the ICAEW and our permanent skilled visa was submitted in April 09. Just wondering if there is anything I can do whilst in the UK to increase my chances of a job offer in Oz when the visa is issued (I know this may be a while off unfortunately). Also does anyone know how the job market in Queensland is looking for accountants at the moment? (Looking at suburbs North of Brisbane but not sure yet where would be best to live). Any advice or comments will be gratefully accepted. Nic

    Value of Accounting Diploma

Hi guys, I am considering application of admission to graduate diploma in accounting at La Trobe University. Does anyone know the value of this kind of accounting conversion course for people like me with non-accounting background? Is it worth the investment of money & time etc. ? Any comment will be appreciated.
  20. My family and I are hoping to move to oz in a few years, my hubby is a chippie and has done this for 18 years so we will probably be using his trade on the visa application, but we are waiting for me to complete my accounting studies, as once I am a fully qualified accountant with acca I understand I can just transfer to the australian equivalent, I think....someone stop me if I am wrong, but I have read somewhere I would obviously need to do a bridging course of some description and I was wondering if anyone knows how long this takes (approx) and how much it costs or where I could look for further information. Sorry to bother you all, I hope someone can help, Take Care, Sam x

    Accounting Thread

I came down as a student. I graduated December 08 ' with a degree in accounting from a university in Queensland and I applied for residency through that award. It’s needless to say I don’t have experience in accounting. It was impossible to find any work as a student as I didn’t have the residency at that time. :nah: But it has proved very difficult to find any sort of work including volunteering. Could someone please let me know how I can find some work at a time of a nationwide recession. I am currently in Perth, do you guys think there are more opportunities in other cities? How should I go by finding entry level work? Any Advice or discussion appreciated. :notworthy:

  23. At the moment I am a full time student, studying my degree in Accounting. Once i graduate (hopefully with honours), my wife and I are planning on moving to Perth, WA on a permananet resident visa (the wife is a Nurse). This should be in July 2008. I am hoping to gain my professional qualification in Australia, preferably with a ICAA certified company. I was just hoping someone had any advice on any recruitment agencies, the recruitment process for graduates or how do i apply for a graduate position within the accounts sector in Australia.
