Hi Guys, I'm after some guidance/suggestions... As the end of the current financial year is quickly approaching I'm finding myself without an accountant. I appreciate I could google local accountants etc. however, I am hoping to find one accustomed with WHV transitions to 457 visa's? I arrived here on a WHV June 2016, started my first and only job in Australia in Oct 2016 and have since received my 457 sponsored visa this past week. I have resided in Sydney the whole time, having traveled a little before being offered my current job, with all the immigration/tax policy changes experienced this year my employer approached me yesterday to give me a heads up that they are unsure whether they have been taxing me correctly and thus, I may experience a tax bill at the end of this tax year. Can anyone recommend a good accountant in the Sydney area, who is accustomed to dealing with tax returns for people in my situation? TIA

Hi everybody Its been a turbulent time of late, havent been on here for what seems like ages...ho hum. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the start of spring. Get to the point, I hear you ask. As an accountant who has sat the IELTS test and acheived over the specified number of points/result, one assumes that I will sit squarely on the CSL (my heart truly goes out to everyone who isnt on that list!). However, and its a big one....the way I read the CSL 16/3 is as follows: Accountant -- where the applicant has achieved a score of at least IELTS 7 in each of the four competencies, and/or has completed The Professional Year – Skilled Migration Internship Program Accounting (SMIPA) This means I must have sat the Professional Year - Skilled Migration Internship Program....does it not? Someone tell me I am not insane - my reading is correct (I realise that puts me on the MODL rather than CSL, but just confirmation would be good... Thanks in advance Adam

Anyone else still studying for their accountancy qualifications with the aim of applying for PR as soon as they are qualified? Or been in the situation previously where you were just waiting to get through those last few exams to start the process? I am potentially 6 months away from qualification, so prob 9 months away from starting the application process. Just waiting on results of a re-sit which I will receive this Friday - which will allow me to sit the Strategic Level Exams in November. So much rides on this one result, failure now means I wont be starting the process for at least 15 months. Going to be one nervous as hell week. Cannot wait to move myself, and my family over to Aus to start our new life together. Its been my dream for 10 years to come back one day - and i'm finally getting close to making that a reality. Ben

Any ACCA Accountants out there who applied for 175 Visa (Skilled Independant Permant)
Guest posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi All, Myself & Hubbie as ACCA qualified (I am FCCA) and are going to apply for the 175 perm visa, however when I read through the details , it appears that we have to apply to CPA (not sure if the other 2 bodies accept ACCA) to access our qual's and see if they recognise our ACCA,degree etc and then when accessed we can then apply for the Visa. Has anyone gone down this road and will being ACCA qualified be enough to be able to get membership of CPA or do we have to do any further study/courses etc.. Hopefully it will just be a matter of filling in the online application form and sending copies of the qual's. Can you tell me how long it took for this to be sorted also? Thanks in advance  AM- 15 replies

Apologies if this has already been asked, I had a brief look, but couldn't find a similar topic, but then I'm male so it could be right in front of me. I'm considering a Franchise purchase at the moment and I need an accountant who can look over the books, give some advice and help set up our payment structure if it all goes through. Does anyone know of one preferably south of the river, but beggars can't be choosers. Thanks people. Andy

Hi I was just wondering how straight forward it is to complete the online CPA Skills Assessment? Would I need an agent to help out with this? I am a CIMA member having qualified in July 2010, and understand that there is a memorandum of understanding between CIMA and CPA, that allows members of CIMA to become CPA members and vice versa, and which also helps with the Skills Assessment for migration purposes. Also will I need to wait until I've been qualified for a year before I can apply to CPA for the Skills Assesment or is the year wait purely for the Visa application? Many thanks

This must be a joke. Immigration chief wins leadership award - Local News - News - General - The Canberra Times Maybe now he'll get promoted elsewheres ! Although I'd happily receive the $40,000 to consult to DIAC to help them improve things (where to start?), I will wager it goes on his sabbatical and the temporary head becomes full time head of DIAC.

Just wondering if anyone knows how the job market is looking for qualified accountants in Perth at the moment. There seem to be loads of jobs on the websites. We are moving out permanently to Perth in January and would really like to secure a job before we move. We are visiting for three weeks in October/November to try and do this. Any hints or tips on the best way to secure a job like this would be gratefully accepted! Thanks! Nic

Hello Everyone, I would just like to ask if it will be a good idea to take another IELTS now considering that the launching of SMP list is delayed until August and there is no confirmation whether the CSL is still in effect or not. I would really appreciate your thought on this. Thanks, Aslan:biggrin:

Hi, Would really appreciate some clarity on this one please ... I see from DIAC's CSL that under the occupation of Accountants, it states an IELTS minimum band score of 7 (in each of the 4 modules) is required.... I'm a holder of a British Passport, do I still need to secure a score of 7? Many thanks

Accountants etc. will need 7 each for assessments from 1 July 2010
Jag Khairra posted a topic in Visa Chat
On 1 July, CPA Australia’s assessment criteria for General Skills Migration will be as follows: A formal qualification assessed as being at least comparable to an Australian Bachelor degree. IELTS Academic Test Report Form (TRF) Number to show you have a band score of at least seven (7) on each of the four (4) components – speaking, reading, listening and writing. Please note that a successful assessment is valid for two years from the assessment outcome date. See: http://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/cps/r...migration.html ======== The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia also has announced changes to the requirements that must be met by applicants for migration skills assessments who apply after 1 July 2010. See: Changes to Assessing Criteria from 1 July 2010 ======== National Institute of Accountants is also expected to introduce and announce such a change soon.- 60 replies

Hi, I have applied for the GSM 175 under the occupation of an Accountant (a member of the Management Accounting institute in Pakistan, whose members are considered "Accountants" for immigration purposes at least by the ICAA, CPA institute & the NIA). Since it was taking too long, I also applied for State sponsorship, and have received the approval, however, yet to convert 175 to 176. I am wondering about prospects of accounting jobs in the Perth/WA, as compared to Sydney and other cities, the job portals list quite a small no of jobs in Perth. So I am double minded if I should stay independent or convert to SS. If anyone can answer please, will be highly obliged! Thanks

Will it be the time for Accountants with Profssionally experienced
rgrangana posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi I just wondering any positive news from DIAC in favor of qualified and experienced Accountants as We saw in the draft SOL list. I hopefully believe they should give the priority to ICAA, CPA or NIA full members with good level of experience than those who just got their skills assessed by these bodies. This is the reason behind the fact that skills shortage is still there for Accountants as I think. Also it is not the applicants who got 7 in IELTS will find jobs in oz, but those who have australian membership( ICAA/ CPA or NIA) will have better chance of starting his or her carrier after arival. Pease give any comments and Any body have idea about whats going to happen to the occupation of Accountant.-

Hello Calling all accountants. I have been told that if I get CPA membership, then I don't have to wait a year whilst I gain my 1 year post qualified experience? I only qualified CIMA in Oct 09 so as I understand it I have to do 1 years post qualification experience then I can apply for a visa. Any help appreciated. Thanks Sharon

Accountants Non CSL, may be the next group to be capped & killed?
ozwonderful posted a topic in Visa Chat
Dear all, After reading the thread for agents only, the recent seminar took place in Sydney, 1 of the point did mentioned:- 5. Some discussion among migration agents suggests that the cap and kill provisions might be used to knock off particular occupations or combinations of occupations and English skills. The suggestion is that the oversupply of cooks and hairdressers in the backlog, as well as accountants with less that 7.0x4 on their IELTS test, may be the next group to be capped and killed. posted by George Lombard May I know how soon it will start to implement? I am so afraid to be ceased as I am from 2008 applicant. I have been waiting for 2 years now and really hope that this is not true. I will be resitting my IELTS hope to get 7 for all. Sad  Ozwonderful- 2 replies

I have a doubt, the new SOL formulated by skill Australia shows accounatants in the list but with an (a) and at the end it says CPA or equivalent does that mean one needs to be a CA/CPA before they can be classified as an accountant?

New Sol (Would Accountants still be part of the new occupation) list
Guest posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi I am about to finish my Accounting Degree this end of june. I am goin on my last term starting this March at one of the most reputable universities in Melbourne. I just wanted to ask if accountants would still be part of the new list? Can anyone give a response please? I have already checked skill australia's report regarding the manpower skills that Australia will need in the future. I have just read paper one and it seems that accountants will still be in demand. Unfortunately the preliminary finding I have read was dated oct 2009. Can anyone please give me an indication if accountants will still be in demand? I do not want my studies to go to waste? Thanks heaps. j- 7 replies
