  1. I have some questions related to Australian visa that I hope you could give me some advice. I am an international student and currently doing 4-year IT program. This is my third year of the program and also the work placement year which is part of the program. I am currently employed as an intern in an IT company. It has been six months interning at this place and the company has asked me if I am interested in taking a full-time opportunity after the internship. I am really excited about that but I have not told them about my decision as what I am concerning is that after the intern I have to go back to the university to finish up my final year and could not work full-time while I am in the semester (as stated in one of the student visa conditions) unless they offer me a part-time position (but I guess it would be hard as currently there is no part-time staff at my workplace). My question is what if my company are willing to sponsor me a working visa 457, am I able to take that and replace my student visa while I have not finished my bachelor degree (but eventually I will in any cases)? as apparently under working visa 457 I am allowed to study part-time and work full-time. I am just afraid as I have not finished the degree and have not get any official educational certificate yet, which could prevent me from applying this 457 visa (transitioning from student visa to working visa without completing the degree). I could not find any useful information related to my specific case online. I hope that if you know any information about my case and give me some advice, I truly appreciate that.
  2. Hey. I am James, long time lurker, first time poster. I am wondering if there is anyone else out there is the same boat as me now that the students are enrolling for their next year of uni. I am currently on the 2nd year of my WHV, it will run out on August 2nd. One year ago I met an American student (doing a 2 year masters) in the hostel where I was working in Melbourne. We started a relationship almost immediately and everything has been fantastic since then. After the company I work for made it apparent that there was no chance of sponsorship for my role we started to look at other ways for me to stay. I was surprised to discover that foreign students on a 573 visa are allowed to add a family member or partner onto their visas when they apply, and this could be done at the end of her first year (she has to get passing grades in the first year to then apply for the 2nd year of her 573 visa). Well she smashed the first year and so we are collecting the application together currently. Have my UK police check, waiting on the Oz one. Am doing my medicals as late as possible to make them as valid as long as possible. Have the joint bank account and stat decs from Aussies and PRs saying they know we have been together since July/August. Registered the relationship with BM&D's. Only have lived together on paper since Dec (my employment at the hostel came with a room so didn't seem necessary). I have these conversation points though: Wills - We can get these if it helps our app, though it is a little pricey. If people think its a big bonus I will. Cash in Hand Employment - The first few months of our relationship I was supplementing my income with some off the books work in various fields. So my bank account transactions to confirm our relationship at that point are pretty much non existence, though we do have some evidence we did stuff, we just can't prove how we paid for stuff. Would a statement declaring this is why there are no eftpos receipts for this time be ok? Or should I just not mention it as it could damage my character? Looking at our app, other than the stat decs we have very little to show we were together except a couple of photos and mobile phone bills. Insurance - Currently I am covered by my travel insurance from the UK, do I have to upgrade to Australian medical cover? Financing - The visa jargon asks her to explain how she will support her partner financially. Her parents currently give her an allowance to pay the rent and my income covers bills, food and everything else. So she really doesn't support me financially at all. I support her I guess. What can anyone suggest on that circumstance? Has anyone been through this process before and what was it like? I am terrified that it will not work out, though I would be happy just to be on a bridging visa for the next 12 months just to stay with her. The last phone call I had with Immi was a little scary as they mentioned I might not be allowed an extended tourist visa as I have already been over here 24 months as a "tourist". Anyone in the same boat? Cheers
  3. Hi all, it is going to be very much appreciated if anyone can give us any kind of information on our case: I had my offer letter from University of Melbourne for a 1 year long master by coursework program and I will apply for 573 student visa in a few days. However we are in the middle of a very big dilema. My husband - ICT business analyst- had his skills assesed from ACS, passed IELTS and got qualified for regional state sponsorship skilled migrant visa and he is planning to apply 475 visa offshore right after he gets the dependent student visa. Does this create any problem regarding GTE (genuine temporary entrant). What do you suggest us to do? We have 2 small kids and we want to spend these 2 years of processing time in Australia. We have enough funds to support ourselves because we sold our home. We don't want to mess up the longterm goal of 475 and then 887. After 1 year when my masters finish, I will apply to another 1 year-long program. But then it can be oficially known that my husband applied for skilled migrant program and so does this constitute a problem regarding a new student visa? I am afraid they may refuse my visa because we also applied to immigrate. I am really confused. Any input is desperately needed, please share your experiences. Kindest regards

573 to 457 is it easy?

I hope someone can help me? I am currently on a student 573 visa and have just started a job. My employer was fully aware of my work restrictions, however, he doesn't want me to reduce my hours in March, therefore has offered to sponsor me. He has never sponsored before and has asked me to complete the paperwork for him and he will sign it. Is this easy to do myself, I've looked at immi's website and it looks straightforward, but I'm sure there is more to it!! Would it be better for me to appoint an agent, if so, what would be the approximate fees for this? Thanks Steph
  6. Hi, I hope some agent or experienced member can answer the following: Under current policy, assuming a dependent (spouse) of a student 573 visa meets every requirement, can he/she apply for a Skilled Independent 885 or 886 as primary applicant? How about in the near future, say 2 or 3 years from now? Thanks Jose
  7. Hi all, I posted a while ago that my fiance and I were considering our options of applying for PR in Australia, since then goine through many difficulties, partly I suspect due to my desire to live in Australia . We have just returned from a reconnisance mission to Brisbane, and my fiance loved it there. I've enrolled on a BA in Nursing in Brisbane which starts in January 2011. Its's a 3 year course for me (paying massive international student fees) but feel it may be an investment for the life in Australia I desire and also the career change I seek. Thankfully I feel I can afford the move, the study and on top of the student fees I'll have about $80,000 of funds available to me. I plan to do some part-time work, I know I'm limited to 20 hours per week during term and full time out of term, and I think this is a great way to integrate into "society" away from the normal student life. My finance's biggest concern is the restriction that she would only be able to work part time (20 hours per week) during the duration of my study/until PR may or may not be reached. I hope someone would be able to help out and answer the following questions:- 1. Have any of you entered Australia on a student visa and worked part time? What was it like finding work? 2. How did your partner settle in only being able to work part time? 3. How difficult was it for your partner to find part time work while on a student dependants visa? Thanks Bushcat :goofy:
  8. I am from Malaysia. Hence, i am under assessment level 1 and studying as a pharmacist (under subclass 573). Last year, i am supposed to graduate at the end of last year. However, I failed and hence, i am required to go back at the end of the year around september 2010 to finish the course at december 2010. However, i plan to go back earlier. Hence, i plan to take up a 10 week english course which will commence on june 7. I am just wondering does taking up a 10 week english course (which starts on june 7) helps me to go back to australia earlier? should i apply two seperate visas or just a single visa under subclass 573? how should i go around with the application of visa? some ppl had advised me that i can go back as early as early june without applying for the english course (which means that applying for student visa with the CoE of the pharmacy course i am about to repeat on september 15 is suffice to get me back early) Is this true? Since i am under assessment level 1 and my status in the immigration department is considered as deferred (if i am not mistaken, it is considered as due to compassionate reason in my case), do i still need to submit financial evidence when I apply for the student visa? If i do need to submit one, what should i submit and what should be included in there? I am in malaysia atm and hence, i am not in Australia atm. Please help!!!!

  10. Hi Guys Just wondering if anyone has any experience of the following or has done the same thing. I know Im doing alot of thinking here but Im trying to think of the best options to get us to Oz. Basically at the moment we have applied for SS with the ACT - when it is successful we will lodge our 176 before July 1st. At the moment we are using the OH occupation 2231-11 Systems Manager to apply for our 176. As we don’t know the new SOL or the SMP for the ACT we could be in for a 2/3 yr wait which will bring us up to possibly June 2012/2013 and its highly unlikely that the occupation will be on the new SOL and at the moment 2231-11 has been changed to the offlist and is not in demand anymore. At the moment I am continuing my degree which will be completed by July 2011 - but I will have actually have it in before then - just the results dont come out until July 2011. Ive done alot of research into the area that I am currently working in and unless I am a qualified Social Worker/Psychologist my opportunity for work will be limited so I have actually decided to do a Masters in Social Work when I arrive in Australia. Ive already checked to ensure that I can meet the requirements for this course and I definitely do. At the end of 2 years study I will be a qualified Social Worker and will be able to become a member of the AASW. It makes practical sense for me to do this for my long term career prospects. The sample SOL also has Social Worker on their list so I would imagine at this stage it will be on the new SOL- HOPEFULLY. Social worker however is on the Quota list for the ACT at the moment and is limited but of course all of this could change. I have been in touch with the Australian Catholic University in Canberra and I know that I will have to wait until August 2011 to apply. The masters starts in February 2012. Because we aren’t sure at this stage if our 176 will be granted or not and I know that it is a risk to take ........ but we were thinking in the interim we could apply for a subclass 573 – higher education visa for Australia (Masters by Coursework). This would allow me to work 20 hrs per week and my OH could go on this visa as my defacto and it states that if you are doing a masters that your dependants can work an unlimited amount of hours. Obviously we know we would have to pay international fees for both myself and my daughter plus Health Insurance. So I was wondering could we go on a subclass 573 with me as main applicant, then when we arrive in Canberra we change our 176 to an onshore 886 as my OH is the main applicant on the 176. Does anyone know how this works or if it is even possible? Any advice, opinions or comments would be grately appreciated. Thanks Suzanne
  11. Just got a positive skills assessment for hubby as an IT Manager and keen to get out to SA longterm having spent several months in Adelaide on and off for the last 3 years. As we are not on the CSL and both almost 44, need to get sorted quickly! About to apply for SA state sponsorship so we can go for 475 which may take 3 years we gather. In the meantime, can I get the family out to SA on a 573 higher ed student visa if I get a place to do a degree in Adelaide without this causing probs with the 475 application processing? Have sold the house so have enough funds to satisfy the 573 requirements for the whole family but don't want to mess up the longterm goal of 475 then 887. Just want to get out there as soon as poss and start our new life before the kids get too old to bring with us! Any input gratefully received!!

  13. Hi, I am going to Australia to pursue MBA (Master by coursework) and have been granted visa 573. My spouse who may be accompanying me has also been granted the spouse/student visa (subclass 573). We both are Indian citizens. With regards to my spouse's work entitlement, I understand the following condition holds: Dependent family members with Permission to WorkYou can work a maximum of 20 hours per week throughout the year. A week begins on a Monday and ends the following Sunday. Exceptions: Family members of students can work unlimited hours when the student starts their main course: students enrolled in Masters by coursework (visa 573) students enrolled in Masters by research or Doctoral degree (visa 574) students studying a Masters by coursework, Masters by research or Doctoral degree, sponsored by AusAID or Defence (visa 576). You cannot undertake work until the primary student visa holder has started their course in Australia. quoted from (Higher Education Sector: Temporary Visa (Subclass 573) - Assessment Level 1) This clearly means that my spouse is entitled to work unlimited hours. However, on my spouse's visa I see the following condition: "8104 WORK LIMITATION" Can you please let me know what is this suppossed to mean? I am concerned about the same. Thank you for your assistance. Regards,

    Student visa - 573

Hi, I've been excepted on a uni post grad course in Fremantle, WA. I'm a bit lost now. We have just accepted an offer on our house, so its all systems go.... I suppose its time to get medicals and looking at these threads I have looked on the panel doctors on the immi site, so thats been really useful. I supose what I really want is clarification that the 573 visa is the correct visa to go for (Post Grad Dipolma in Secondary Education) and it would be great to speak to someone with knowledge of student visa's, as I am unsure of the process of how I would go about working at the end of the course / student visa... would I need a bridging visa?... how much would it cost? would I be able to work on this visa? or am I totally on the wrong track? I'm 38 with a family, so just trying to cover all corners! thanks
  17. hi! We are looking at different options of going to Oz. I want to do my Masters anyway, and this seems ideal - to rather get an Oz qualification and do this with student visa.... Hubby will be able to work full time as Mech engineer/ fitter and the children will pay standard school fees (according to Immi - this is only for Masters/Phd students). We are very positive that he will find work when we are in Oz, we will not be limited to one state, as the course is taught in blocks FIFO, which is ideal. It is CRICOS registered too. By the end of the first 12 months I will hope to find a job offer. I have emailed a few consultants in the field and they say even with current situation, the field is crying out for skilled people, so it looks positive .... If hubby doesn't have a 457 visa by end of the first 12 months, I will have to do another course, maybe a general post grad diploma in the same field, which will be helpful later. We will also qualify to apply for a 176 visa after hubby has worked for 12 months, so maybe we can go down that route. Hope all of this makes sense? My questions... - are there any other post grad's students out there on a 573 /574? - Is there anybody who got Perm residency after 2 years' FT studies? - Can I go from completing a Masters in the first year, and then do a post grad Diploma, both on the 573 visa? Has anybody done something like this? Thanks for your help, anybody else on student visas or about to apply for student visas, it will be great to chat about the whole experience, worries etc!!! Thanks!
