  1. Ladies and Gentleman, As most of the forum members know me. But still I have to introduce myself.I had applied for Designated Area Sponsored( Provisional) Visa( Subclass 496) 30 August 2007. I had went through a roller coaster during the processing of this visa subclass. In spite of being provisional visa I have to waited for such a long time. I was asked to submit medical and PCC in 2008, which I had submitted. Then again I submitted the medical and PCC on January 2010. Job verification was done on 03-09-09. I am still waiting guys. Well, to add more 496 visa subclass is not come under capping and ceasing. It means we are not capped and ceased as some of you must be thinking that I am Pre September applicant and must have capped. Well, friends my question is that my occupation is on ACT(Limited) SMP. Now my question here is should I go for the new application or wait for the result of 496 which I am doing for ages.....?

    496 and SMP...

SORRY If this question sounds stupid... But I am desperate to know what is the future of all 496 applicants? According to SOL(Schedule 3) is only for , "176 (Skilled – Sponsored), 886 (Skilled – Sponsored), 475 (Skilled – Regional Sponsored) and 487 (Skilled – Regional Sponsored) visas who are nominated by a State or Territory government agency" can apply for the SMP of states. I do not think they have mentioned anything about 496. I want to know what is our fate. Do we have to believe that we are capped and killed. If this is true what are they waiting for ? Why do'nt to go ahead and take the decision. Why are wasting our crucial time. My 3 and half years of value able time is wasted by this decision of going to Australia where I will be supported by my brother. Now I have to believe like Rahul that finally we will be capped and killed. Because behind the doors Chris Evans supporting Chris Bowden. Policy is still same. They are still persisting with the same priority processing. What have new Immigration minister done after his joining ? Nothing. I am afraid he is not going to change any policy for this financial year upto July 2011. So either wait for July 2011 or ready to be capped and killed. Hope this is not true....
  3. If your application date has recently come into our current processing date range you should allow at least 6 weeks to enable a case officer to complete the initial assessment. Please refrain from sending requests for an update on the status of your application within this 6 week period. Guys Clarify. Is this Capping ...????

Friends they have clearly mentioned the number of visas for the particular financial year. But 496 is not there.... Well I should take it as 496 is part of 138 or may be we are exempted from this capping or something else. Please clarify.... 496 to 887

I am the primary applicant on the 496,but my husband meets the primary criteria for the 887. Is he eligible to apply for the 887? I will furthur clarify. My family (myself, husband and minor daughter) arrived in Melb on a 496. My husband will meet the one-yr full time work criteria by end 2010, but I have been pre-occupied with babysitting and was unable to take up employment. Are there any other families out there facing a similar situation? Any family with a different primary applicant for the 496 and a different applicant for the 887?

HELP = Inquiry with subclass 496

Hello. I have an inquiry which you might be able to help. My husband has a visa subclass 496 holder and now in Australia. He still doesn’t have his PR due to lack of years stay. In the immi.gov.au website, it says I can accompany him by filing up form 47ST. Im not sure what documents to submit aside from the form itself. Does anyone tried this? (me as spouse to accompany my husband as primary applicant ) Hope you can help. - Honey
  13. Hello everyone, I was granted a 496 visa (now superseded by the 475) a year ago and am currently in Australia. However I don't want to wait for 2 years to apply for a permanent visa 887. I'm now considering to re-apply for a 176 PR visa. Anyone experienced please tell me should I need to reapply for a complete application (i.e take the IELTS test again, resubmit all the certificates, documents required ...) or there is some concession for my new application? Thanks Peter
  14. hi there, i would like to seek your opinion, and would appreciate it very much your help. i've found this quote below from immi.gov.au website (subclass 496) and would like to know if its possible to add/include my mom in our 496 visa application supposing that we're already been granted the visa 496: "Adding family members to your subclass 496 visa: If you currently hold a Skilled - Designated Area Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 496), your spouse, dependent children and other dependent relatives can still apply to accompany you in Australia if they were not included in your original application. They should apply for a Skilled - Designated Area Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 496) using Form 47ST." thanks for your time and all the best!
  15. Hi everyone , I was hoping that someone out there would be able to give us some advice with our 496 visa. We applied in March 2006 for our visa, my cousin agreed to sponsor me and I passed the TRA , I had all my work references confirmed and everything else was going fine . Our migration agent contacted me with a request for me to complete a new visa application as the one I had applied for had changed. This new visa application is a two part Class UZ Subclass 496 Skilled-Designated Area-sponsored ( Provisional ) At the time when I applied for the visa my trade as a Painter and Decorator was not on the " most wanted skills list " but as of September 2007 it was added to the list, giving a Painter and Decorator the opportunity to apply foe an independent visa ( 138 I think ) I contacted my migration agent and asked if she could contact the department or my case officer to ask if I could change my visa type application which as she agreed is a much better visa opposed to the 496 visa. She contacted me a short while later to say that because my initial application had been lodged in a certain catagory by her collegue who had now left that my request for a change of visa type was not possible. Can someone tell me if this is correct and if there is another road i can go down to try and get this visa type changed. We should hear shortly if we will be accepted for our 496 application as everything is in the final stages. Any advice would be greatly apprecciated, thanks Nigel, Gillian and the kids
  16. Hi all, Love the site, dont really post that much but love reading all your post and they have given me lots of great info but I have a question and I can't seem to find the answer so I was hoping someone might be able to help. We are hoping to get to oz usng a sponsored provisional 496 visa which means we will have a 3 yr visa, have to live in a designated area for 2 years and must work in the designated area for 12 months of that 3yrs. After doing this we will get a permanent residency visa, does anyone if there is any restrictions with this type of visa with regrds to employment, being self employed, benefits or being able to buy property etc or in fact any other restriction which maybe I have not thought of before we actually get permanent residency? Cheers Ian
