I applied for Temporary Graduate Visa 485 on 15th December, 2021 while I still had student visa and OSHC till 15th March, 2022. My consultancy bought me a OVHC starting from 15th December, 2021. I got a letter in 17th December, 2021 stating my bridging visa is approved but it will be active after my student visa expires in 15th March, 2022. I have paid over $800 in an OVHC which only got activated when my bridging visa activated in 15th March, 2022. When I asked the OVHC insurance provider what is the point of having two insurance policies at the same time when my OVHC is only effective when my bridging visa got activated, they suggested me to change the start date of the insurance to 16th March, 2022 when my bridging visa actually activated and told me it won't have any consequence on my Temporary Graduate Visa decision. But, but, but my migration agent keeps telling me that I shouldn't change the start date because it will hamper my application and tries to divert the topic. I tried to discuss this with other agents in the same consultancy but none of them replies my mail. So what was the point of me paying hundreds of dollars in OVHC while I already had OSHC? All this time, I feel like my migration agent didn't give me the full picture of this. Did my migration agent cheat on me?

Hi there I’m wanting advice on a AAT review please.. I applied for my 485 visa on the 11 of March 2020 which has been since refused based on incorrect dates on my completion certificate which states the 13th I was in contact with the university prior who stated in a letter that upon successful completion of my final two units my completion date is expected to be to 10th of March. This was uploaded in my visa application. I successfully passed these final units and results were published on the 10th so I applied for 485 on the 11th. I needed to apply for a new visa urgently as my student visa was expiring on the 15th.. Later on the 17th March I finally received my offical letter of completion (which was after my student visa would have expired) but the completion date sated was the 13th instead of the 10th.. We have been in contact with the university and the only difference between the two dates is that the 10th is when results are published and the 13th is when they’re entered into the system.. so technically my completion date was still the 10th and I would have been unlawful in the country if I had waited for the 17th for the final letter to come in before applying for 485.. Is this grounds for a AAT review? Would appreciate any advice Thankyou

Hi everyone! I'm in the process of completing my 485 visa application and I'm having some confusion regarding my OVHC. I've started a new policy which begins the day after my student visa ends, however I'm on monthly payment options. My new OVHC insurance certificate has a "date policy begins" but the "date policy ends" is blank as it is an open-ended policy. The visa application requests to show proof of coverage for the entire duration of the visa, however if I'm only paying for one month at a time, does that mean I only have proof of one month of coverage? Despite that my policy has no end date? Or do I need to pay for 4 years up front? Which I can't afford. The actual application asks for your insurance information, noting that OSHC is not acceptable coverage for the 485. However when I put in the details for my new OVHC it asks for an end date and if I leave it blank or try to type in anything other than a date it won't accept it. I'm not sure which date to use or how to remedy this. The visa is for 2-4 years, so maybe I'm meant to put my end date as 4 years from the start date? Despite having no proof of that? I'm sure I'm overthinking it but I'm sure there are other people out there who have been through this. Thank you all for your help!

485 Post-study Visa | What is considered as Overseas Qualifications?
chick6nSalt posted a topic in Working and Skilled Visas
TLDR: What is considered as overseas qualifications? Hello everyone, I hope your day is going well. I have a quick question regarding my application for 485 Post-Study Workstream visa. In the online application, I have to provide at least 1 overseas qualification but I do not have any. So I mitigated it by putting the Qualifications to 'Other' and put 'None' in the Course name, Institution name and Campus. At the attach file section the application asks for Qualifications - Overseas, Evidence of so I did not attach anything and provided an explanation as below: "I cannot provide Evidence of Qualifications - Overseas as I did not achieve any. However, the application form requires at least one entry for that section so I set the Qualifications to 'Other' and put 'None' in the Course name, Institution name and Campus." Once I have lodged the application, the attach documents page still asks for the Qualifications - Overseas, Evidence of. My question is what counts as an overseas qualification? Must it be a post-secondary education like university degree? or does highschool diploma counted? -
I’m about to graduate from my medicine degree in the next couple of weeks and would be starting work at NSW hospital on a 2 year contract. I got the option of applying for the post graduate visa 485, or ask my hospital to sponsor me for the 482. Any advantage of the 482 over the 485 visa?

Me and my husband are in 485 visa and we were invited to 190, but in the bridging visa says that it only will starts when 485 expire(dec/2020) I’m pregnant at this moment and we are thinking to cancel 485 and start the bridging from 190 to have access to Medicare. Do you know if it is possible ? We have asked for the lawyer that did our process , and she told that is impossible, and if we do this we couldn’t work. But for me doesn’t make sense. Do you guys could help us to have any answer ? we didn’t find any information about this . Thank you

Hi, community, I'm currently an international student doing an undergrad degree and will graduate in November. my student visa expires at the end of March 2021. I'm looking to apply for 485 Visa and want to know: If I have applied for 485 while my student visa is still valid, would the bridging visa A replace my student visa? Thank you.

Hey there! I would really love some clarification on a couple things please.. have a tricky situation and next to no straight answers My partner is in Australia on a Philippines passport currently on his student 500 visa which expires on the 15th of March.. and allows travel. We are intending on extending his stay in Australia with the post graduate 485 visa after this.. HOWEVER, before he planned on applying for the 485 visa we booked a holiday to Bali for two weeks which he was then intending on going home.. things have now changed and we have a bit of tricky navigation to get there first.. His visa expires the 15th of March, we intend to leave for Bali the 13th of March BUT his course doesn't finish until the 10th of March meaning we cannot apply for the 485 visa and bridging visa B until successful course completion.. this gives us a tiny 3 day window between visa application submission and a 5 day window between submission and visa expiry.. My main question is, can he leave the country on his student visa and then have the bridging visa approved while in Bali or should we wait and change travel arrangements until bvb is all approved? If anyone knows how the system generally works that would be amazing!! Thankyou!

485 Visa - Applying Offshore/After Student Visa Expires
kywon.au posted a topic in Working and Skilled Visas
Hi all, would appreciate some advice regarding applying for the 485 visa (post-study work stream) I'm currently on a student visa till the 31st of January. I am as yet undecided between continuing with postgraduate research or applying for a 485 visa, and was planning on making that decision around mid-April, upon which I'd know whether my research scholarship will be approved (in which case I'd apply for a student visa), or rejected (in which case I'd apply for a 485 visa). However, I came across the following stipulations that states that applicants must either have: held a student visa within the past 6 months before your application and now have a Bridging Visa A or Bridging Visa B, granted on the basis of a valid application for a visa held a student visa within the past 6 months before your application and now hold a substantive visa I had been planning on returning to my home country after my current student visa expires, whereupon I'd apply for the 485 around April (still within the 6 months period). However the condition that I must be within the country and holding a substantive or bridging visa prior to application concerns me. Is there any way I can still apply for the 485 visa after my current student visa expires? Could I potentially come in on a 3 month tourist visa (which I believe counts as a substantive visa, correct me if I'm wrong) prior to making my application for the 485 visa? Or should I just cut my losses and apply for a 485 visa anyhow before my current student visa expires? I'm less inclined to the second option as the 485 visa can only be applied for once (not to mention costly), and it'd feel like a waste to me if I'll end up just replacing it with a Student visa. Any advice would be much appreciated! -
Hey all My wife and I just landed in Australia and will now submit the joint application for the 485 post-study work stream visa. She is currently on a 500 student visa and I am on an eVisitor (subclass 651). As we understand, my wife (the primary applicant) will retain the same rights as she currently has throughout the duration of the bridging visa. As her spouse and the secondary applicant, can anyone confirm what work rights I would have while the bridging visa is in effect? Am I also right in thinking that the bridging visa will not take effect until her previous student visa expires? Thank you TooEasy

Hi everyone, I am currently under SC485 visa and paying for OVHC to fulfil the 8501 visa condition (Maintain adequate health insurance). Recently, I lodged SC190 visa and received interim (blue) Medicare card. My question is Does the interim Medicare can fulfil the 8501 visa condition? I have been asking around about this i.e. go to immigraion office, call immigration hotline, ask the insurance provider... but seems nobody know how it exactly how it works. What I found is here: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/visa-1/485-?modal=/Visas/supporting/Pages/485/Acceptable-evidence-of-health-cover.aspx --------------------------- Acceptable evidence of health cover When you apply for your visa, you must either: produce a valid Medicare card or receipt of enrolment with Medicare, or provide evidence that you and anyone included in your application have arranged health insurance in Australia. --------------------------------- Cheers, Phoenix

Hi forum, I've got myself into a bit of a situation. I'm currently working as a business analyst on a 485 Temporary Graduate visa expiring in September. I did my skilled assessment and it got rejected as I had credits transferred from when I was studying in Malaysia (still the same university) therefore I need to do two more units. I also do not want to go back on student visa as I won't be able to work FT then. I'm wondering if there is any way I can extend my TR till I finish my two units. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Hi guys, Just want to know your opinion about my visa. I have MSc in Energy and Resources Management (which includes courses of finance, economy, project management etc.). Just graduated. I have an option to apply for 485 Temporary graduate visa and stay 3 years as I have done MSc by research. But I'm thinking about going straight with PR and in the regional list of SA I have noticed the profession of Management Consultant. What do you reckon, am I eligible or it's kinda difficult to say? Cheers Andy

Only certain occupations are approved for use under Australia’s permanent and temporary skilled visa programmes. These occupations are listed in a legislative instrument that contains two schedules or ‘occupation lists’ that apply to different visa programmes. On 19 April 2017, the: Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) replaced the previous ‘Skilled Occupation List’ (SOL) and is available in Schedule 1 of the relevant legislative instrument Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) replaced the previous ‘Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List’ (CSOL) and is available in Schedule 2 of the relevant legislative instrument. Information is also provided about occupations that were removed from the list of eligible skilled occupations on 19 April 2017. I am currently on a 485 visa that is due to expire on the 11th of May. Once I finish my SMIPA course on the 10th of April, I will have the additional 5 points to qualify for the 60 points benchmark. I am worried that my invitation will not come in time before my current visa expires. Can anyone give me some advise? I will be using accounting as nominated occupation. I believe I can only wait for 2 invitation round (24 April and 8 May) before my current visa expires.

Background Arrived in Aus 2010 on a Student Visa. After Uni, obtained a 485 Skilled Graduate. Currently working for an employer in my skilled nomination. Applied for a 457. Unfortunstely, nomination for sponsorship was recently refused due to salary issues (long story, but legal advice has said not worth appealing) Currently under a Bridging A (class WA) as I still have till the 1st December to appeal against my 457 decision. I intend on withdrawing my 457 application before the 1st of December. I believe that upon doing this, I will then be given 28 days on withdrawing, for my Bridging Visa to remain valid. Option 1 - New 457 Application I am currently working with my employer to potentially find another role with a simpler contract that meets the needs of a 457. I would then need to apply for a new 457 application Q1. Whilst on my current bridging visa, can I apply for a new 457 onshore? Option 2 - Lodge a Tourist Visa (600) The above might fall through with my employer and therefore I want to find work elsewhere in Australia. I would then like to apply for a 6mth Tourist Visa so that I can continue to find work. Q2. Whilst on my current bridging visa, can I apply for a 600 Tourist Visa onshore? Can anyone perhaps offer some answers to my above two questions. If anyone has any other ideas or useful advice, would really appreciate it. I would like to avoid getting myself into any high risk categorys with IMMI by having anything refused, so want to do everything right.

Is anyone can help to answer me some questions... My issue is that I've applied 485 visa at 10th of March, by the time I lodge the application, I enattach the reference number of IELTS test which I sat on 5th of March. But I failed the test with listening 5.5. So I applied another test immediately after I have the results for my first test, but next test will be held at 2nd of April, which means that I cannot lodge my second ielts result within 28days after the visa application by the time the second test result has been released. In my situation, does it mean that my 485 visa will definitely be refused? Or is there anything I can do? I've been searching on the Internet about this issue, some says that it would be fine as long as I lodge the result before the case office starts to look my case, but other says that it has to be within 28 days. I feel helpless and confused. Someone please help!!!

Stressed - I think this is the end of the road - From 573 to 485 to Nowhere
sonofthesoil posted a topic in Visa Chat
Here is a rundown of events, I am one of those people who were still on a student visa during the time of the 8 February 2010 announcement. I finished uni in July 2010, and applied for a Subclass 485, which was granted in Nov 2011. I had a Skills Assessment with ACS (2231-79) Computing Proffessional (nec). Then managed to secure a job this year in April as a Service Desk Analyst. The primary aim of having a Subclass 485, as the gvt put it, was so that those who did not qualify for an 885 or 886, would use that opportunity to either find employment or do a Professional Year. My main hurdle is that that the ACS does not consider someone in my position to apply for Skills Assessment as an ICT Support Officer (313112), and at the same time, TRA, which is the assessing authority, requires applicants to posses 3 years work experience, of which 12 months would have been prior to applying for Skills Assessment. My current employer has expressed interest in trying to sponsor me through Subclass 186 or 457, but the Skills Assessment pre-requisite is what is giving me nightmares. I dont know what would be expected of me, if I am on a visa that allows me to spend at least a year gaining work experience, yet when it comes to applying for a subsequent visa, the bar is set so high, you can only but wonder whether 485 was meant to be the end of the road. Any ideas on alternative pathway, would be much appreciated. -

Hey everyone, Just looking for some help regarding the visa situation I'm in- currently on a Bridging Visa A while I wait for my Skilled Graduate 485 to be processed (about a year from what I've heard) that I lodged last week. I did an Advanced Diploma in Business Management that lasted 2 years and ended in Sept 2011. At the time I was using a Migration Agent who said to keep studying until I got sponsorship as I wasn't eligible for the 485 at the time (I actually was!!!) so I went on to do a Cert IV in Marketing just to stay in Aus and completed that in June this year. It was only recently that I found out I was eligible for the 485 AND the 885 PR visa but both require you to have completed the 2 year study requirement of a Diploma or Adv Dip within previous 6 months before applying. Ideally I should have applied before March and all would have been good but just wondering how strict they are about these things? I mean, I did two and a half years study in Aus so if anything I'm overcompensating in this area! I'm hoping that by the time the processing of the 485 of a year or more comes around that I'll have a backup plan in place. I moved to WA to increase the likelihood of obtaining Regional Visa or sponsorship just in case. In short- I studied longer than necessary for the "2 year study in Aus" requirement so don't think I'm eligible for the 485 or 885 and looking for alternatives. I have a degree in Psychology that was recognized by VETASSES and this allowed me to apply for SOL of Human Resources Advisor but with no experience. I'm a native English speaker so can do IELTS and get the extra 20 points which would give me 75 points altogether for the 885 application if I get the 5 points for the 2 year study requirement. Anybody been in a position similar to this at all? Thanks in advance, Alex
