  1. Don't know if everyone is aware but there is a planned strike by British Border and Customs staff at most UK Airports/Ports on the 30th November. If anyone has their trips booked to and or from such places I would assume the best thing to do is contact the airline. There are contingency plans being put into place and the strike 'may' not go ahead, but best be prepared, However always a silver lining. Hammer duty free and pack as much a you can, there might not be any bugger to keep an eye,:policeman::biglaugh: Cheers Tony.

  6. I posted this on another thread in the Western Australia section but thought it may be useful in here too. I'm arranging a meetup for new people arriving in Perth: Date: Sunday 30th Jan Time: 3pm onwards Location: South Perth Foreshore, Coode St end of Sir James Mitchell Park The link here should show you the location on the map - we'll meet between the boatshed restaurant and the funcats 'hut' (the centre of the picture) South Perth, Western Australia - Google Maps There are a couple of BBQs in this area so maybe people could bring some meat and salad for an early evening BBQ? We'll bring along a cricket bat, some balls, frisbee etc so feel free to add to that should you wish! Please rsvp so we know at least some people are going to turn up! We have a colourful fish windsock thingy so I'll try and put that up to identify us easily. Thanks ! Jo and Seb PS We'll def do another bbq a few weeks later so that those of you arriving early Feb can come and join us too.

  10. Ok, so its the dreaded 3-0 coming up for me and i am hoping someone can give me some good ideas of something i can do to celebrate in style! I have 2 friends visiting from melbourne over the weekend, and my actual birthday is on a Thursday. So i have a few days to fill with things to do! Please share with me your stories of things you have done in Sydney to celebrate your birthdays, this will hopefully fill me with inspiration!
  11. Hi, Well, I arranged a meetup last Friday and although it was good fun it wasn't quite the turnout I was hoping for - just one other couple apart from us! But I'm persistent. This business of emigrating is great, but it's also hard sometimes so it would be nice to meet a few other people that are going through the same thing. So if anyone fancies meeting for a drink, Friday 30th October, the Valley, 8pm then let me know. Hopefully meet you soon. Kate

    emigrating 30th nov...

Hi we are emigrating to Perth on the 30th Nov, this has been on-going for a couple of years but needed to sort the house out etc. I will be working in Bentley hospital, wondered if anyone was emigrating around the same time? Or have worked or heard anything about Bentley.. Did go for a look around when I was validating my visa, but just a quick look. Cheers Janice
  13. After much debate and research and rekki's we we have finally rented our house, as it just would not sell in this current market. We have booked our tickets and fly to perth 30th nov, arghhh. Excited, but so scared of leaving everyone behind. But hopefully we will all be fine. Anyone else heading for Perth soon?? I am dreading saying goodbye.. How does everyone cope with the awful bits of emigrating. Jan
  14. Hi everyone. After nearly 6 years of indecision, we are finally taking the plunge and flying out - one way - from Heathrow to Brisbane, then onto the Sunshine Coast on 30th July. Is anyone else flying out on this date by any (remote) chance?? Debby
  15. Not sure if you already know this. Just been sent this by my agent: On 30 June 2009 the 2008/09 ACT Skills in Demand list will close. Applications for ACT Government sponsorship of occupations on this list will not be processed after this date. Applications received after 30 June 2009 will be held over and assessed against the new 2009/10 ACT Skills in Demand list and sponsorship criteria to be published in August 2009. I'm rushing like mad to get my forms in on time just in case they take my skill off. Good luck, Mike.
