  8. Hi. We're emigrating and arriving in Oz on 24th September, and just wanted advice about finding a rental property in Geelong. We've heard it can be bit of a minefield, so any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks. :arghh:
  9. Hi All, Here’s an update on what’s been happening in the currency markets over the last week. The Ozzie Dollar found support last week from the release of the minutes from the RBA’s MPC meeting earlier this month which painted a cautiously optimistic picture of the Australian economy. Meanwhile, the CPI data painted a mixed picture with the headline number showing prices rising at a decade low 1.5%y/y however the core figure (+3.6%y/y) remains stubbornly above the RBA’s 2- 3% target band and this could prevent the RBA cutting rates further in the months ahead. This week, attention turns to the NAB Quarterly Business Confidence Survey (Tues), New Home Sales (Wed) and Building Approvals (Thurs) for further signs of stabilisation in the economy. AUD Movement – High’s & Low’s of last week (20th – 24th July) High’s: 2.0399 Low's: 2.0019 A movement of 1.9% Difference on £200,000 High: 407,980 AUD Low: 400,380 AUD Difference of: 7,600 AUD Whilst FX certainly isn't the most thrilling of subjects, the sooner you begin to think about your money transfers, the more likely you are to make your money go further. Best Regards, Jon Sermon HiFX
  10. A few of us are meeting at the PK Tavern this Friday night around 8pm as its my OH'S birthday if anyone would like to come along feel free to contact me, it would be great to meet some new people.
  11. Well we are all set to go to Perth,we fly early Friday morning,so we will be offline from Monday onwards until we get sorted down under.Cant wait to see my home town again not been back for many a year.
  12. OK, here we go again........... (and I can hear everyone go, not again, please)...... But, yes it's time for our next Essex Meet which will be on Sunday 24th August @ 2.00pm at The Halfway House on the A127. If you are new to the site, or are just thinking about Oz at the moment, come along and have a chat to like minded people who are already on their journey, in the visa process. The pub does food, and has a play area in the garden for the kids. So come along and make some new friends, but we will also be saying good bye to a very good friend, April and Richard (Mrs C) this will be their last meet, before they fly off to start their new life down under. Hope to see you all on the 24th KP Nuts

    Reccie trip booked - Jan 24th 09

Hi all We have booked our flights to come to Melbourne to validate our visas and have a look at places to stay etc. Our flights are with Emirates (any comments + or - would be good). We went to Adelaide last year with Singapore Airlines and they were superb, but these flights are £1200 cheaper and it consists of 3 7hr flights direct from Glasgow. If anyone knows of someone offering cheap car hire from Jan 24 till Feb 12, then we are looking for a 4 door with enough room for us 5 and our luggage. We are all looking forward to this trip so much more than Adelaide as we have a better idea of what we are looking for and also there will hopefully still be some sun for us to have :jiggy:. cheers The Evans Clan
  14. Hi Everyone A BIG THANKS to all that made today happen, what a great day, I really enjoyed meeting you all, and wish you all the luck one can wish. It was great to hear so many different stories - I don't think there were any of us with the same story to tell but the one thing that was common in all of us was the feeling that we are prepared to go through all the trials and tribulations that the process can throw at us in order to attain a better quality of life for ourselves and most importantly our children. Cant wait to see you all again if anyone needs to chat more than happy for a pm. To all the younger ones that are un-sure of moving, Australia is a great place with lots of bike riding tracks, sports to play and new friends to meet. Good luck and we wish you all the best for now and in the future, grab everything with both hands and don't let your dreams get away! With the warmest of wishes Geoffrey, Tracy & family
