    White xmas on the cards

Parts of Britain are enduring an Arctic blast as snow showers sweep the country, forecasters said. A band of wintry showers started in Scotland and the north of England, and is working its way south throughout the day, said MeteoGroup. Six inches of snow is expected in the north of England, where temperatures will reach a maximum of 2C, with sleet and snow more likely in the south. Forcasters say the artic blast could well last into the New Year.:cute:

    Xmas in Mandurah

:spinny:Hi everyone, have not been on this site for sometime and missed a few Essex meets at The Halfway House but hope to meet up on Sunday 9 November 2008. Everything has come around so quick - rented our house, paperwork and everything shipped. All that is left is a suitcase each!! We all have our one way ticket to Perth and arriving on the 6 December 2008. Hoping to settle in Halls Head/Mandurah area. We have a number of niggerling questions/queries so any help would be appreciated. We have both looked at jobs on many websites OH is a fabricator/welder and apart from a few jobs most say "Salary Awards"?? We have tried to find out if this is a standard rate of pay etc but have no real answers. Over the last few days we have contacted the schools Halls Head Community College and Halls Heas Primary to enrol our 15 yr old and 10 yr old but was told we had to live in the catchment area and they could not tell us where the catchment area was until we are there!!! I did not find them very helpful. Has anyone else found this? We would also like to find out about school buses and where they run to etc?:arghh: Apart from this we are all excited and apprehensive all at the same time and not looking forward to saying final goodbyes to parents and friends. What is xmas and new year like in Mandurah, whats on and whats open etc? Is there any other families living or heading to Mandurah area wanting to meet up for a chat and a few beers over New Year time? Best wishes to youj all and thanks to PIO for such an informative site. Debbie, Gary, Hannah and Aaron.

  12. Hi Guys, What is the cheapest way of sending Xmas presents home by Air to the UK from Oz (as by sea it will take too long to get there in time for xmas). We have chosen small / light presents for people to make it as cheap as we can but not sure what company is best to use - Any ideas?? Thanks Tom and Lucy:spinny:

  14. Hi all, As Christmas is not too far away now i thought i would let you know of a great website based in the Uk that you can buy gift vouchers from dozens of High Street Stores to send to your loved ones 'back home', as opposed to using Australia Post International charges. My O/H and myself regularly use this site. They charge approx five pounds for up to 200 pounds worth of vouchers. There is no minimum spend and you can combine different stores vouchers. They will insert the vouchers into a card of your choice and type in a message of your choosing. Click on the link it's well worth looking at Voucher Express - next day gift vouchers, gift certificates to friends, family in England and UK.

    Can't wait for next Xmas!

Hi guys I am 40 and suffer from rheumatoid arthritis which as most of you will know is worse in the cold weather! I was working like mad right up until boxing day to ensure all done before holiday break. Then on xmas day I woke up in agony my joints ceased on me - so I spent all xmas day on the sofa in agony whilst poor hubby ran around like an idiot and cooked xmas dinner (there are some bonus' to this illness!) and the kids (10 year old twins) played with their toys. We hope to be in Perth next xmas and with all that sunshine hope that we can enjoy a proper active family xmas!!

    A Sad Xmas Tale

Late last week, I was rushing around trying to get some last minute shopping done. I was stressed out and not thinking very fondly of the Christmas season right then. It was dark, and wet in the parking lot as I was loading my car up with gifts that I felt obligated to buy. Then I noticed that I was missing a receipt that I might need later. So mumbling under my breath, I retraced my steps to the mall entrance. As I was searching the wet pavement for the lost receipt, I heard a quiet sobbing. The crying was coming from a poorly dressed boy of about 12 years old. He was short and thin. He had no coat. He was just wearing a ragged flannel shirt to protect him from the rain. Oddly enough, he was holding a hundred dollar bill in his hand! Thinking that he had gotten lost from his parents, I asked him what was wrong. He told me his sad story. He said that he came from a large family. He had three brothers and four sisters. His father had died when he was nine years old. His mother was poorly educated and worked two full time jobs. She made very little to support her large family. Nevertheless, she had managed to skimp and save two hundred dollars to buy her children Christmas presents. The young boy had been dropped off by his mother, on the way to her second job. He was to use the money to buy presents for all his siblings and save just enough to take the bus home. He had not even entered the mall, when an older boy grabbed one of the hundred dollar bills and disappeared into the night. "Why didn't you scream for help?" I asked. The boy said, "I did." "And nobody came to help you?" I wondered. The boy stared at the sidewalk and sadly shook his head. "How loudly did you scream?" I inquired. The soft-spoken boy looked up and meekly whispered, "Help me!" I realised that absolutely no one could have heard that poor boy cry for help. So I grabbed his other hundred and ran to my car.
