  1. Hey All, It's been several months since i logged on, I am a men's hairdresser and was looking at going down the road of hairdressing with some training etc. In september when i last looked we had to wait until 2012 for processing and a further 6-12 months until being approved. Has anything changed since then? Are people being processed now? Thanks

    Should I wait?

Hi All, I am applying for an ENS 856 visa, my employer should be putting their part in sometime this month (Jan). I have done all of my medicals and got police checks from Oz and UK back in September but am waiting on a police check to come through from Japan which may not come until mid March. My question is: Should I wait for the Japanese police check to come through or can I send the rest of my application after my employer has applied and send through the police check at a later date? Thanks, Richard
  3. hi all, I am July 10 CSL HR applicant. My medical has been finalised last week only. however, since then I didn't receive/hear anything. I am under impression that medical is the final piece of the process and your application granted once it is finalised. I know no one can predict the timeline. however, can someone share there experience specially applicants who received their grant letters recently. Thanks, Alan

another 3 yr wait say diac

i telephoned the diac last nt. we applied in aug 09, oh is a boilermaker/metal fabricator and i am a newly qualified midwife. we applied on oh trade due to myself not having required 1 yrs experience, but now due to all the recent changes and oh being taken off the critical skills list in march, i phoned the diac to get some advice. i asked them what the timescale was roughly for our application, knowing that our best bet would be to try and get an employer sponsor. My other question to diac was that i would have a yr experience in july and once i had this and had a positive skills assessment, would i be able to maybe change myself to be the main applicant instead of oh. Diac told me that if we stayed with our original 175 MODL application with OH as primary applicant then our application would not even be looked at ulntil after the end of 2012. now with my maths that would be 3.5 years possibly even 4 years from start to finish. I was expecting 2 yrs but not this. i was informed about employer sponsorship which is faster, but am not sure how to go about this, do i just write to various employers and forward letters and cvs. If i change my application to myself being main applicant, then apparantly this means a fresh application, a fresh charge of 2500 dollars which i cant really afford to throw money around. I really dont know what to do. we tried to get off list nomination to new south wales but this was rejected too. our family would sponsor us but i believe this wont get us there any faster either. any ideas anyone. ?????????????????????????????
  5. Just went on to uplaod some documents and i have a message next to x-ray and health checks saying Please download Form 160EH - 'Radiologist report on chest x-ray of an applicant for an Australian visa.' Complete Part A of Form 160 and take it with you to your appointment with the Radiologist that your Panel Doctor or Health Services Australia has advised you to see. You should complete Part B of this form in the presence of the Radiologist Do we do this now or wait?
  6. Hi Seeing as we may now have a 3 year wait to get a visa i wondered about re training for when i get to Aus. Maybe social worker - seems to be in need here and in Aus, i like people and it appears to be a rewarding job. What would you re train as and why?
  7. My Wife, Emir and I are currently at the start of our visa application. I have had my skills assessment completed and yesterday completed my Ielts test which put me over the 120 points needed. However whilst at the Ielts test I was speaking to someone else who was applying for a visa and said that I should look into alternatives to the 175 visa as there is currently a 5 year processing time. I was completely shocked as we were hoping to get out as soon as possible, within 12 months. I was just wondering firslty if this was anyone elses experience of the process and secondary what would be the best 'alternatives' to the 175. I am an IT Technician for a University here in Wales but also do home computer repair, webdesign, and private business networking. My wife is a Chiropractor but has only completed 2 years full time work since leaving University so is coming over on my visa application. We are hoping to move to the Sunshine Coast, probably Mooloolaba. Does anyone have any advice on jobs on the Sunshine coast. Are Chiropractors widely used up there and am I likely to find enough IT work to avoid any long commutes to Brisbane CBD? Any advice grately appreciated. Thanks Jon

How long to wait for PR???

Help! I am a little confused! This has probably been asked before, but I wondered after how long can we apply for PR?? Its a long story - but I will try and give the short version.... .....we came over nearly a year ago, me on a Working Holiday Visa and my OH on a Visiting Visa for 12months. The plan was for me to get a job, and get employer sponsorship, this has pretty much happened, although we are still waiting for the visa to be granted (better come through in the next 4weeks - or else!!) Anyway, once we get the visa (fingers crossed) how long do we have to wait until we can apply for PR?? I thought it was 2yrs, then I heard it was 4 and now I hear people that are applying straight away???!!! Does it depend on what job you are in etc etc??? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Do I book flight now or wait?

Hi, Just need some impartial advice. I am currently working my 3 month notice from my NHS lab job here in UK. I'm emigrating to Sydney so started applying for jobs in health service. My job is specialised & aussie employers are interested, hopefully I will get telephone interview. My dilemma is I haven't booked my flight yet but was aiming to fly out on 30th Oct 09. Should I wait for a couple of weeks for aussie employers to get in touch or do I book flight now? Thank you. Demi x
  10. Hi, Just wondering if anyone can help or advise us. We lodged our visa end of march 2008 and since then we have heard nothing. We have gone through an agent who is useless, He never returns our calls and emails. We applied for a skilled professional visa ( not sure of the subclass) and all our medicals, police checks, job approvals were done before visa application was submitted. We are now starting to wonder whether he has submitted our visa! :arghh: Does anyone have any advise? Is anyone still waiting like us? Is there any way we can find out if our visa is being processed without going through the agent? Is there any way we can find out if our agent as actually submitted our visa application? I never expected it take quite this long. Thanks for looking.
  11. Hi everyone, Im Craig and married to a wonderfull woman Carol we have two daughters Jade (9) and katie (4) weve just been granted a PR visa after two years of trying and are looking forward to our great adventure. 13. Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has done similar to what Im about to say. My bf and I have been looking into defacto visa. He is oz and I am from ireland living in Uk. He is in Oz as went home to find work as none here in Uk. We havent submitted defacto visa application yet as we were waiting until he got a job for proof that at least one of us was working. He has now obtained a 6 month contract in oz started last week. Now the dilemma is that hes wondering if he should come back to UK after 6months and what if ge doesnt get another decent role as good ones are hard to come by in Australia. He gets paid very well but at his level there are limited opportunities in Uk and there at the moment. Meanwhile here in the UK I have already done my medicals and just got my police check so my medicals are in australia house since middle of July (i think). Now Im wondering should I just go to Oz on a 3 month tourist visa which would tie me into when his contract finishes and then we make a decision. Also if we go ahead with the defacto in the UK, what if we end up coming back in 8 months? Is that it null and void? Also as I already have medicals submitted , can I actually apply in Oz? Just dont know what to do anymore and because our future is uncertain its making it difficult. Had anyone gone over on a tourist visa and applied for a defacto? Also Im too old to get working hol visa. We are both 33. help and advice welcome. sin:unsure:

    Frontload or wait patiently???

Hi, can anyone give us advice on wether to hold tight or get our Police checks and meds out of the way. We are waiting for SS should be through within the week (processing times permitting) so then our 176 family sponsored will change to SS. We have our flights booked for the 28th Dec and we are heading to Dublin on the 10th, so really we need everything to be sorted before the 10th Dec. Our worry is that the CO may ask for specifics medicals??? So what do you think, hold tight for a CO, or get the ball rolling and get our PCC and our meds out of the way????:unsure:

  16. :arghh:Hi All, We applied (late unfortunately) for our Aus Spouse 309 Visa in May. We hadn't heard anything from Govt regarding case officer/case file number until a good 3-4 weeks later (though it had arrived the next day after sending). We were then advised that due to high workloads, our visa would not be assessed/processed until another 3-4 months time. My partner and I have snce had to move back to our own countries due to visa expiration and to save funds, however this is driving us nuts! We've been advised that we have everything we need, and that we have ample evidence for the application. We frontloaded everything possible also months in advance! We were advised our "Processing Position" was number 7160. Given the Gov't only allows a set quota for entrance per annum, i'm guessing there'd be about 20,000 odd allowed through yearly. Also, the processing year for visas run from something like June 01 - May 31. So as its now July (and at the end), that could only mean (i'm assunming) there were a large quantity of applicants prior to June, and they therefore had to carry over the applications into the next "processing year". Does anyone know if theres any truth in this? Or am i guessing? Anyone else with the same problem? Has anyone else applying for the same Visa been given the same feedback, and also been advised of a 3-4 month Visa processing wait????? Let me know how you're going, what you were told and any feedback you've been given?! Let me know your Position number too if you know! Will be interestin to share! Thanks everyone! Good luck! 17. Hello, I am considering teacher training and would like to know if I'm better off beginning my training in the UK i.e. my PGCE and then experience in schools before emigrating, or should I just start from scratch in Oz? The skills in demand list wants 3 years teaching experience which means that I'm at least 4 years away from being able to apply - which does seem very far away. However, if it's worth getting at least my PGCE over here then I could be working on it now (hoping I get a place through clearing starting September 2009 or get on a course through the OU). If I emigrated with only my PGCE, what (honestly) would my career prospects be? thanks Lorraine

  19. Hi there, need advice please, am driven stir crazy thinking about what to do for the best! Myself and my oh are trying to make a decision about whether or not to apply for sponsorship in WA. We applied for the 175 in Feb last, and am in a real dilema now as to what we should do........be in for a long wait for the 175 as hubbie taken off the csl and now only on MODL, or should we apply for sponsorship in WA. Oh is a carpenter We are worried that if we do nothing and just bide our time and wait for the 175, god knows how many more changes will have been introduced by the aussie govt, and we may get turned down anyway. Alternatively, if we apply for state sponsorship in WA, what happens if my oh cant get any work there, after commiting to live/work there for the 2yrs. By tying ourselves to working in one state, we are effectively limiting our chances of getting work in oz, and increase the risk of having to come home again if things dont work out on the jobs front. We've never been to perth, but from some of the info ive got from the internet, theres plenty going on there for our young children. I like the sound of the weather, and pictures ive seen look great too.........its just the whole work thing.......i am wondering if Perth is just too isolated from the rest of the country, with not enough work prospects. I am hearing about a lot of people having to return home to the uk because of the lack of work, and i realise that things have slowed down throughout the whole of the country, but we just want to make sure we give ourselves the best possible chance of getting work, and im not sure if Perth is going to offer that bearing in mind how isolated it is from the rest of the country. Can anyone shed some light on this.......its a big decision, and my brain is fried at this stage trying to think what the best thing to do.......help!!!!!! E:confused:
  20. Hi everyone, My OH and I have applied for a 175 visa and we are now waiting for god knows how long. We really would like to land in Oz around Oct and I don't like not knowing when (or if) we are likely to be approved a visa. So, I'm looking into other options. I can apply for a Working Holiday visa, but my OH already had one when he did a gap yr, so can't get another one. I have been looking into Tourist Visas, which can be granted for 3, 6 or 12 months. I am wondering whether OH could apply for one of those and then we can travel around Oz until our visa is approved. As long as we tell DIAC our plans and only I will work (if we need to), is this possible? Many thanks
  21. We were just about to contact case officer to question why we had not heard anything since CO assigned on 1st June. No queries, no requests, no nothing. Just more waiting (as we are all used to). Then in our inbox was a scary e-mail that made all the waiting worthwhile and has changed our life forever - Visa grant letter. The shock still has not passed yet. We cannot think straight at the moment. Good job the weekend is here (to celebrate) as would be very difficult to concentrate at work. The morale of the message is for all applicants not to lose hope and keep chasing the dream !:jiggy::yes: Applied 3/9/08, 175 Accountant CSL, IELTS Level 9 17/4/09, CO 1/6/09, Visa grant 19/6/09
  22. We applied for 475 visa online (after successful skills assessment and SA state sponsorship) and got confirmation that our application was received on the 31st March 09. Just wondering if anyone has experience of how long it takes to be allocated a CO? I am expecting again and wondering when is best time to inform the DIAC? Am due in September and was so worried about my medical and the fact I would have to postpone our visa but turns out still waiting for any contact whatsoever so shouldn't hold things up too much to wait to do our meds after the baby is born. I would really appreciate any advice on waiting times for a CO and the best time to inform of a new addition to the family. Thanks!

  24. Hi there, Is there anaybody out there in the same dilema as us. We have had our 136 permenant skilled residency visas since last January, we have sold our house 3 times, all have fallen through, at the moment we are thinking should we just go and rent our housw or wait to sell, getting very fed up here now. Let me know any views anyone has.:wideeyed:
  25. I have just been sent a news update, and the text reads: Australian Visa Numbers Reduced</SPAN> Long wait for some applicants The Australian Government announced on 12 May 2009, a further cut to the permanent skilled migrant intake for the 2009-10 Migration Program. The Australian Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, said that this further decrease was in response to the continued economic slowdown. Does anyone knmow where I can get further information. Does a decrease in the numbers allowed mean that criteria is made stricter in order to meet the lower quota, or does it just mean that the application might just take longer to approve (for example if the quota is already filled, then they will put the application on hold till the next year)? I applied for a 475 state (SA) sponsored visa as an IT professional (which was on the SA shortange list at the time when my application was lodged). I have been allocated a case officer in Feb 2009 who then requested further documentation and medicals. These were only finalised this past weekend, and they should now have all they need (I have asked them to confirm this). I do not mind waiting longer, but just do not want my application to be rejected
