Hi fellow poms, I'm preparing to apply for state sponsorship by Victoria for my SIR visa application. Apparently you're required to do lots of research about the state - has anyone here gone through the process? I'm clueless as to what they expect you to know about, where to find the info and how to show the state that you have actually conducted the research... If there's anyone here who knows what it's all about, please do not hesitate to share your knowledge with me! Many thanks!

ANY RESTRICTION ON UK MOTOTCYCLE LICENCE IN VICTORIA?
guinea-pig21 posted a topic in Shipping and Removals
I have read on the Vicroads site regarding exchanging your UK licence for an Victorian one. Seems simple enough but currently I only have a full car licence (since 1995) but am looking at getting a motorcycle licence (now)before we migrate in November next year. According to the Vicroads site, motorcycle licences have a restriction of 12 months limiting me to nothing greater than a 260cc motorcycle with no passenger allowed. So by getting my full motorcycle licence( at a cost of 500 pounds) here in the UK, will I bypass this restriction? Or will I simply be able to exchange the UK licence as it's seen as on a par with those in Victoria? Many thanks.-

Hi Guys Long time since my last post, just wanted to let you know how things are going. First, things I love about Australia: The Beach The weather The Fruit (yummy) The very large houses The cheap meals eating out Things I am not so sure about The Driving ( no one seems to want to give way to anybody here) The Bl***y Spiders (giving me nightmares) Aunt Bessie's Yorkshire puddings (c**p at making my own) Christmas on the beach - not had the expericence yet but think I might miss the cosy fire and cold weather (I know sad) Not having friends (guys I miss you so much) The roads very busy, with really scary junctions That is just some of the things I miss and love Otherwise, we have brought some land in Mount Martha near Mornington, to build our own home on, with views of the bay, can also see Melbourne in the distance. Children has settled really well and love Australia, they are doing more now then ever back home. Hubby is working but work does seem a bit patchy here which can be a worry when you have a family, but everyone seems really laid back about it so trying not to stress. Hope you are all well and getting visa's sorted, see you soon Missiemo

NE Victoria now has a skilled migration coordinator, she is covering a huge area including Mansfield Shire, Alpine Shire, Benalla, Wangaratta and Indigo Shire, and is a point of contact for those coming to regional Victoria and needing help with finding their feet. She is very commited to helping people settle in the area and to increasing the cultural diversity of NE Victoria which can only be a good thing. So if any of you are thinking of moving to any of her areas then please contact her on w.mitchell@wangaratta.vic.gov.au . She will send you a welcome pack depending on where you are looking at settling ( I have just got mine hee hee feel a bit of a fraud as I have been here for 6 months already but it has some freebies in apparently. Unfortunately they don't seem to be for free bottles of wine or a free meal at the local vineyards ). She is also very active in helping people secure work here which might be of interest to some, along with help with housing and making local contacts. Anyway if anyone needs any further info then either e-mail her dierctly or send me a PM. Nicky

Hi ya I think i have asked this question before, with no responses, but now it is 9 weeks and counting till I leave with my other half,   and we are ttyring to make sure we have a bit of an understanding of all we may come across. Partner is a brickie so will be working in the construction trade, know he has to have a red card, to show he has completed his health and safety course, but wanted to see if anyone else had any general information in relation to joining unions, etc etc, everything is so different here in the UK, and we want to make sure that he is able to work upon arrival.
