  1. Hi We are currently going through the paper based assessment with VETASSESS and my partner is a qualified electrician although he doesn't have experience of problem solving in multiple DC circuits or electromagnetic circuits? Are we reading too much into this or is it easier than it sounds. When we look on the internet it seems that this is something that is required to qualify as an Aussie electrician, but not something that UK electricians need to know. Is it something he could research before the practical? You now have to complete a TradeSET form before applying for a visa and this is where it gets difficult. We aren't sure whether or not we are going to pass, but we need to know whether any questions are asked in the practical theory or interview in relation to these circuits? Thankful for any advice. Donna

    VETASSESS online application

Hi All, Finally filled in and ready to go but when do you send certified copies of degree's etc?, as far as i can see there is no attachment bit to go with the online application? Do you have to send them by mail with SRG1 form separatly or will someone contact me for them once online application has been recieved? Thankyou
  3. Hi, My occupation is Group A on the VETASSESS groups of occupations. Amoungst other documentary evidence requirements is that i need to get a signed letter from my employer confirming the dates I started with them, main duties based on my occupation, working hours etc all on my employers official letter head and the person signing must be someone authorised to sign on behalf of the company and must also sign the bottom of the letter with their contact details and position within the company. My major concern is if VETASSESS do contact my employer to verify the letter etc as I will almost certainly be looking for a new job afterwards!!! I can probably get the letter using another excuse such as it's needed by a university i'm considering doing a Master Degree with or something along those lines, but if VETASSESS one day decide to phone my employer to confirm then i'm toast!!! Can anyone with experience confirm one way or the other?

    Plumbing Vetassess

Hi all Just wondering has anyone applied to do the vetassess practical in Dublin or has anyone already been through the process. would be grateful for any info :cute:
  5. Hello We are new to this forum! Myself, my husband and 3 children are hoping to migrate to Oz... My husband is a plumber & bathroom fitter, trained for 22 years and we have been running our own small business for the last 16. We are going for a state sponsored visa (WA) and are fortunate to have passed the first stage of the Vetassess procedure - which means we have the practical to come. We have discovered that due to the changes in migration law due to come in next year, we would not qualify to go through on points alone and therefore feel an enormous pressure to pass the next practical assessment in February 2011. We are very worried about the whole procedure (I am sure anyone who is in the same boat understands the implications on young children and financially) and would really appreciate any words of wisdom about the practical day/assessment. In particular we are a small domestic plumbing firm, specialising in bathrooms and tiling. Although trained in gas work many years ago, my husband does not fit or test gas appliances. We are not up-to-date with every gas regulation and it is a worry! We were wondering how non gas-fitting plumbers cope with this side of things? Similarly, we have no demand here for air-conditioning/sprinkler systems and haven't worked in these areas. Can anyone help us? We will put in all the work, but it's a minefield to know where to start! Thanks for reading. Rachel
  6. Howdy peeps! Well the husband has booked his ticket to do a reccie of Perth at Easter! And in the meantime we're collecting his evidence as a construction project mng for assessment. He's able to evidence this with 3yrs+ exp in the role in his prev job, but for the last 3 months he's been doing the role as a contractor. He's nervous to ask for a ref confirming this as it may jepodise his position. Is he able to submit a declaration explaining this? He can also evidence a degree in construction management which he completed last may. Thanks!

    Vetassess help!

Hi, I'm new to the forum so apologies if I have posted this in the wrong section. I was hoping that someone who has been through the Vetassess skills assessment process could give me some guidance relating to work experience. I want to apply under the Environmental Manager category however my work experience over the past couple of years has been at a consultant/Adviser level? Does anyone know whether this would be an issue at all? I carry out pretty much the same duties as an Env Manager and have an environmental degree and professional memberships in this area.. I just don't want to waste the assessment fee if they are really strict!! Many thanks in advance! Sarah x
  8. hi, My family and I are just at the beggining of our application form, hoping for a better life down under!! i knew it would not be easy as good things never are, BUT the 2.1 trade evidence form- i just cant seem to find anything to write, not that i cant its just how do i put what i do into words, what do they want to hear?? im also dylexic so trying to put practical into written is even harder!! is there any other brickies out there who have already or who are completing this form who can help!! regards brad :arghh:
  9. Hi there Can someone shed any light on this. We are persuing the 176 state sponsorship visa and the initial stage in the process is to have skills assessed with VETASSESS. We want to get this done well before the July deadline for changes to the visa points system. So having looked at the VETASSESS website and a schedule of assessment dates for the UK, it seems Februrary is the last date on the calender. Anyone know where to go from here? Also couldn't see where the assessment takes place, is there various locations around the country? We're in the highlands of Scotland, so long way to travel if not. Thanks for reading, hope someone has some advice.

    Plumbing Vetassess London

My boyfriend has his vetasses general plumber practical in London this week. I was wondering if anyone could tell us what is involved. Do you know if he will be allowed to take his Gas safety book in with him? He was allowed to take it into the exam when he did his gas safe exams so is hoping he can take them to the vetassess test. He always uses the book to calculate pipe sizes and is worried that he won't be able to remember all the calculations. All help and advice gratefully receievd. Thanks.

    Vetassess paperwork passed....

Hi All, My OH has just had his vetassess paperwork passed as a brickie which we are so pleased about, it was a long struggle to get it all together!!! We have now found out that the next stage (Practical) dates may not be until the end of this year or even beginning of next year!!!! So were just wondering if anyone knows if there is anything we can be doing towards our visa in the meantime......or if we have to just be patient and wait????:arghh: Thanks
  12. Hi anyone , Firstly, we are new to this site so I hope this works! we have just started the process for vetassess to make the big move down under, my oh is a carpenter but will no formal qualifications. we sent stage 1 (competency profile) off over a week ago, can anyone tell me if we will receive a acknowledgement letter/email or do we just have to wait until a 'sucessful/unsucessful' letter comes through? would also be grateful to hear from anyone that is going through the same process or has done recently. we are abit worried of what the practical will invovle etc, and how long realistically this process will take. its all nail biting stuff and just want to know now!!

  17. Does anyone know if they offer practical assessments in Australia? Since completing and passing my VETASSESS theory my wife has been offered a job so we are going over on a 457. Although this visa gives me full working rights I have however recently discovered to work as a contractor I need to obtain a Contractor Licence but my UK qualifications and experience as a Carpenter are not recognised. The NSW Fair Trading website advises applicants from overseas who have already migrated to Australia should have an assessment of their skills and knowledge for the licence class relevant to their trade and lists a number of training organisations (VETASSESS is not on this list). However just below this the site talks about using VETASSESS for General Skilled Migration. It says some trades need an "offshore technical skills record" from VETASSESS but Carpentry is not one of them. It literally just says that "any applicant issued with a qualification through VETASSESS is eligible to be granted a contractor licence or supervisor’s certificate for carpentry, bricklaying and/or joinery". No mention of the world offshore so would it be acceptable to do the practical in Australia??? I am keen to use VETASSESS as I have already completed their theory and plan to apply for a 175 visa so we can secure permanent residency. I have emailed them about 5x and no-one is responding! Got an email this morning inviting me to a practical in the UK though....3days after i leave!!

    VETASSESS processing time

Could anyone let me know what the processing time of vetassess is?
  22. Hi all Ok so need to find out who is sitting there prac test in feb, I understand payment must be made by 5th feb. I am particularly interested in hearing from any Joiners, as I will hopefully be sitting the test then, Also I have seen past threads form those who have sat the test but am also keep hearing from anyone who has sat the test within the past 6 months or so, so we can get up to date tips From previous threads I gleamed that chippies had to make a pitched roof, plus other things, and joiners had to do a bit of machining (i.e planning up a bit of wood(including facing, and I think explaining what you’re doing through the process etc..), then running a 10x10 mm rebate, with the spindle already set up!!! easy peasy! plus a full scale drawing of a door plus window, inc cross sections again straight forward, and in recent years joiners had to make a saw horse (err this is a chippie thing?!?!?) so wanna know if this is still in the test, the reason why I know the saw horse is really a chippie item as when I did my apprenticeship at college us bendh joiners make an MDF floor unit while the chippies made the saw horse, any who no biggie as long as I get a bit of practice in:wink: Let me know your thoughts and if any of you have recent test experience that would be great as it would be advantageous for all of us Also (waffling on but this is important!) I noticed on the Vetassess website that if you supply enough evidence in your online app you may not have to do the practical?!? Anyone know if this is true??? Cheers All

    Vetassess assesment

:no:Help Help Help...... We have had a nightmare trying to emigrate to Aus... We started with Thames Migration when i was 43 went through everything eventually I got an assessment with Vetassess to take the plumbing assessment just before my 45 birthday !!! I passed everything except a few question on the roofing section some of these I wasn even asked for, as the trainer was in a rush to get away because when I arrived they had no details on me and he had to wait for verifcation that I had paid and regisered which I had, because of this I did't start till late that morning unlike the other guys who had got way into the work, however they failed me and by the time the women from the migration company got herself into gear I was 45 and she said too old to go out on that visa. I have now be put in touch with Tradies down under they have said I can go on the plumbing course which will qualify me for the regualtions for Aus and then they find your sponsers. I have been told I will still need to do the vetassess again but only on what I failed on. I am a qualified plumber with City and Guilds with over 20years experience. Has anyone had any dealing with tradies down under? Any help or advise will be gratfully receievd , the wifes getting desperate now its been a long haul but we are still aiming to get out there. Its a nightmare not knowing the best route.:arghh: cheers D
