  7. Hi guys, this is my first post here! I've read lots of good stuff and have finally joined up as i have a question about emigrating to Australia as a pre-primary school teacher. I am currently living and working in Japan as a teaching assistant and teacher (i have 2 jobs) and have been here for 5 years. During this time I have decided that teaching is for me, and would like to ultimately emigrate to Australia and become a pre-primary school teacher. The obvious route I can see would be to return to the UK and do a PGCE teaching course, get experience and then apply for emigration from the UK, but I was wondering if i could go directly to Australia from Japan and do my teaching course there (on a study visa), and upon graduation go through the Australian system to get employment. Here's some info about me:- I am 35 years old and from the UK, I have a Ba(HONS)in Graphic design (but no teaching qualifications yet) I have 5 years recent experience as a teaching assistant to 3-16 year olds and 1 year experience teaching solo to 15 year old students, I lived in Australia for 1 year on a working holiday visa. I want to emigrate for good. Any info is greatly appreciated from anyone with experience of training to be a teacher in Australia or just applying in general. If you want to know more about me then just ask. Thanks in advance:biggrin:

    TRA training requirements

Hi, I am just looking to get my skills assessed and was looking at the requirments for 900 hours training. I have done 2 years at college (full time), a year NC electronic engineer and a year HNC elctronic engineer. I am also studying for my degree part-time. Can anyone tell me if the NC would count or does it have to be a higher level and can I use the hours for the degree course which I have already studied. Hope that makes sense. thanks Ian

  11. CARPENTERS, nurses and geologists are in short supply as Victoria grapples with a shortage of key skilled workers. The housing industry, buoyed by the economic recovery and government handouts, is begging for school leavers to consider a building apprenticeship. TECHNOLOGY company Renewtek is feeling the pinch of a countrywide skills shortage. With a national survey showing that 76 per cent of bosses have reported trouble getting skilled workers, group managing director Fergus Porter says his company expects to be forced offshore to recruit the specialists it will need when demand picks up. And what is being done to address this by federal and state governments, apart from clamping down on migration....?
  12. I thought I would start this as there doesn't seem to be anything on PIO for us occupational health and safety/training professionals. I have been through VETASSESS assessment and it failed as they don't take into account of expereince there only interested in degree level. So now found out AIM do assessments for our profession and do take into account experience as well as qualification. The requirement for these professions says degree or 5 years experience(I have 12). Spoke to some migration agents and they wouldn't take me as they say didn't have degree. So now I have paperwork away to AIM for assessment then will have to go through agent list again. I hope its worth all the trouble. Any thoughts on how others are doing out there.
  13. Hi, does anyone know if the TRA actually contact or enter into coresspondence with employers or training institutes named in the application form. I have been struggling to get hold of info from the college regarding my qualification back in 2001, but after a couple of weeks have finally managed to get passed on to the correct person there who is finally helping out. If they do contact training institutes do you think I should give a direct telephone number for the guy whos dealing with this for me or just the standard college number? I just don't want wasted time if the TRA have difficulties getting to the right person just like me, but on the other hand I dont want to do anything wrong on the application form!! Any advice? Sarah
  14. Hello, havent been on here for a while, been back to oz this yr to decide if its what we want to do. Come to the decision that we both want to give it a go and try and get over there! Contacted a couple of agents throught them free online assessment thingys and it comes back positive, my trade being a maintenance fitter and having HNC as highest qualification. One agent go back to me and said that I required 4 years experience, but it wasnt clear whether that was post training, I've completed a 4 year apprenticeship, or including the apprenticeship. If it is post trainng then I'm going to have to wait till July before thinking about it again. Can anyone clear shed any light on this or have any experience with this? We're both also thinking of going to the Manchester expo in a week and a half, do you think this is a good idea? I'm 25 and my wife is 26 and she is a teaching assistant with a BTEC childhood studies nursery nursing national diploma and working towards completion of a foundation degree in the integrated Education and care of young people. Would this fulfil the requirement for a "childcare co-ordinator"?? Any advice would be appreciated! cheers
  15. We have applied for SS with Victoria and are waiting for an outcome before we apply for our 176 visa. As the new rules have now come out and we could be waiting for 3 years before we get a possible Visa - does anyone know if it is possible to complete any training necessary to get the A class certification while still in the UK. My OH has passed his Vetassess assessment and now needs to complete the 1 year / additonal training to qualify under Australian Regs. It would be nice to be able to do this based in the UK whilst waiting. Anyone have any ideas, we are visiting Oz in March for 3 weeks so will also try and look for employer sponsorship Thank you in anticipation

  17. Hello, I am considering teacher training and would like to know if I'm better off beginning my training in the UK i.e. my PGCE and then experience in schools before emigrating, or should I just start from scratch in Oz? The skills in demand list wants 3 years teaching experience which means that I'm at least 4 years away from being able to apply - which does seem very far away. However, if it's worth getting at least my PGCE over here then I could be working on it now (hoping I get a place through clearing starting September 2009 or get on a course through the OU). If I emigrated with only my PGCE, what (honestly) would my career prospects be? thanks Lorraine
  18. Hi guys Today I received notification from Vetassess that I have attained a Level 1 in my application for General Electrician, and I can now proceed to the practical stage. I have heard there are companies in the UK that offer a training course to enable people to brush up on what you are to be assessed on. I've tried googling it but cant find any information, can anybody help? Ta

    ENS-121 Visa-Employer Training Requirement?

Hello. This is my first post here although I"ve been reading the website for a few weeks and find it very informative! Does anyone know what is required of an employer sponsoring for an Employer Nomination Scheme (121) visa when it says that they 'should have a current training strategy for existing Australian employees'? Does this mean that only large corporations will be allowed to be sponsors for the 121? I don't know whether a normal trade business with a handful of employees would meet the training program requirement for the employer. What exactly are they looking for as evidence of such a training scheme? Many thanks.
  23. Hi, I don't know if anyone can help us out here regarding my 17-year old daughter getting onto a training scheme or possibly a 2-3 year apprenticeship. We are in Oz on my 4 year business 457 visa and my daughter is now looking for a job with structured training. Pretty much everything she looks into states 'must be citizen or permanent resident'. Is this the norm? has anyone else had a similar problem? One of the answers may be to get perm residency, but I had intended waiting for the 2 years working on the visa before applying. Any suggestions?

    Teachers New Training

Hi everyone, Does any one know the process for registering as a teacher outside of NSW and if this process is different from NSW? NSW would have you do 2 weeks training and then place you into a school of their choice. Just wondered if any of the other states was slightly easier to register - mainly as we are not too bothered which state we live in! Thanks!! Jonathan
