    Primary Schools in Melbourne's suburbs?

:cute:Hi there all... We have been happily living on the Gold Coast for 2.5 years, and have just received the news that my husband's new promotion means we will be living in VIC from the end of the month! We need to find a fabulous State Primary School... boys are 6 and 11. The area needs to be pleasant, with things to do, and access to my husband's region - which is : Melton South / Melton West / Caroline Springs / Cairnlea / Deer Park / Derrimut Village / Burnside / Ardeer / Sydenham We need him to be able to get to and from these places, but without living in them. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.... we currently feel like we have no clue where to begin looking, and are on a flight down there shortly! A full removals package means we don't have the hassle of selling our house ~ which is fabulous........! Take care and thanks everyone x :notworthy:
  2. Hi all, I posted on here a while back with my Visa story... I was on a 4 year 457, but have recently managed to convince my employer to sponsor me on an ENS which has come just come through (1 week from lodging if anyone is interested!) Anyway, what i'm after now are some recommendations for a good tax accountant in the Northern suburbs. I'm approaching the end of my first year here, so have to complete a tax return. While i'm sure the form itself is fairly straight forward, I want to ensure I claim for all of my allowed tax deductable items. Also, as i've now got my PR, I'm considering going contracting (I'm an IT Project Manager). Again any recommendations on a firm that can help me set up a business i can use as the vehicle for my contracting would be great. thanks Andy

    Rentals in Belconnen suburbs

Have been researching rentals in Belconnen suburbs and a lot seem very outdated with their 60's & 70's kitchens and bathrooms (they liked their coloured worktops back then!!) and pricey too. We are after somewhere less dated or a new build. Apart from Macgegor which has more new builds and seems slighter cheaper, what other suburbs in Belconnen are newer and have the new builds? We are not concerned about schools as both children are under 2. Thanks Claire

    Mackay suburbs

Question to all those Mackay residents out there - as some of you know we are moving out to Mackay at the end of April - am still looking at places to live - we have 3 dogs so the beach would be great to be near but I would also love to live in an area with lots of trees and established planting rather than the new housing estates. Really like the look of Bucasia - what are your thoughts BOBJ - partner will be working in Sarina but he doesnt mind the drive there and back - where we live is more important

    Living In Cairns and Suburbs

:biggrin:Hi, my family and I currently live in Victoria, hubby works full time and I am a housewife looking after my two young daughters. We are seriously thinking of moving from Victoria and moving to Cairns around Kewarra Beach/Trinity Beach etc. We have visited Cairns for holidays and our dream is to live there, we like the warmer weather, beautiful rainforest and more laid back lifestyle of Cairns. Would like info on primary schools in the area, my eldest will start school next year, medical centres, bus transport etc. We are looking on realestate.com at rentals as we would rent for a while whislt we look for a house. Thanks guys.

Coastal Suburbs - In Melbourne Today

We're currently in Mount Martha visiting places to live when we move over this year and have so far visited: Berwick, Cranbourne, Mount Martha, Mornington, Ringwood, Croydon and St Kilda and have drove through many more..... We like Berwick and North Ringwood, but still think they are too far from the coast for us. While we both like Mount Martha it's too far to commute into the CBD. We drove down the coast yesterday from St Kilda to Mount Martha and quite like Brighton, Black Rock and Beaumaris but the prices are too high for us. I've looked on the Real Estate website and can see some nice houses in Keysborough, Mentone and Dingley Village but not sure of the areas, so would like some thoughts on them. We only have one day left here so need to make sure we focus on the right areas, so any comments on these areas along with other coastal suburbs would be most welcomed. Our budget is between $5-700 and we are looking for a 4 bed modern house with good primary schooling nearby and a good commute into Melbourne. Thanks for your help, Richard
  8. Hi All Just a reminder that there is a lunchtime meetup in Melbourne on Friday 4th March. Everybody is welcome. It's a chance to have a chat over coffee or lunch and maybe even link up with people that you didn't know were living round the corner from you. We are aiming to make this a regular event - first Friday of the month. I do need RSVPs though to make a booking. Take a look at the Events and Meetups for further details. Cath
  9. :unsure:Hi, I've been looking on here quietly for a few months now and it has been so helpful with so many things. My hubby has a job in Central Sydney but we are looking at moving to the Central Coast as it is away from the city so cheaper living but is still in commuting distance. We have 2 girls, 6 years and 9 years and are looking at schools. But we are in need of some advice. We have been looking to move to Woy Woy and surrounding suburbs as there is a train station there. Can anyone tell us about the area and the schools. We are looking at Public schools. Thank you xx

    Moving to Adelaide?

Hi my name is Calvin and i am changing to a 176 State Sponsored visa as we have been waiting 2 years so far on the 175, so we are hoping to move to SA Adelaide. I am a Construction Site Manager now but i have a trade ( Bricklayer) and would like to know if there is sufficient work in and around Adelaide? and also we would like to find out if anyone could point us to a decent suburb, i have 3 children ages 8-6-14 months and have been looking at Seaford/Seaford Rise- Hallet Cove-or Morphett Vale are these area's any good? We are looking to rent at first for maybe 1-2 years then buy if possible, my wife is a fully trained Nail technian and has also worked in shops/ outlets. If anyone could help us with some information then that would be great as we hope to have our visa's in hand around August time this year and then move ASAP after that. So this is my first time on here and if anyone could help out then we will hear from you soon. Thank You The Greig's

    Sydney Suburbs

When we land in Oz my better half will be working in Brookvale. I was wondering what the opinions were of places to look at in terms of renting? So far I've been having a look at Brookvale, DeeWhy,Frenchs Forrest, Lindfield and Roseville. we're both "Professionals" (whatever that means) no kids and active (40 and 45 years of age) Any comments or suggestions? cheers
  12. Hi all I am new to this site so not too sure how it works. My husband, 2 children under 4 and I are looking to rent in suburbs within 30mins of Cottesloe west of Perth. We will be out there within the next 5 months.Su We don't know that much about them only that cottesloe itself is very expensive. So if anyone has any advice on area for a young family that would be fantastic .Or good primary schools as we can base our house around them. Web addresses or company names would be very helpful. We happy to rent a part furnished, or not furnished home so any help would be very welcome. Thanks you for taking the time to read this, look forward to any advise. Gemma
  13. Anyone know of any good websites for land & build properties in Northern Brisbane?
  14. Hi there - we are moving to Melbourne in April 2011. I will be working at Dandenong Hospital and we will be looking to secure a rental property in Berwick area soon after we arrive. Our query at the moment is....is it easy to get furnished rental accommodation on a 6-12 month lease? We can't decide if it's better to ship across our worldly goods and spend about £5000 doing it, or just take personal belongings and go for a furnished rental. I will be on a temporary 457 Visa so we don't know if we'll be staying for good or not - depends if we like it! Can anyone offer us any advice out there please? Very much appreciated. Steve and Debs
  15. Hi all, I am new to this site so not too sure on how it all works. My husband has just landed a job in Cottesloe just west of Perth:biggrin:, I know this is a very expensive place to live, but there are many surrounding suburbs but I have no idea about any of them at the mo. We will be looking to rent to start with, so any help on an area 30mins any direction from Cottesloe to live with 2 young children 4 & 2 would be fab, also good pre/primary schools. We have a time frame of 3-5 months before we go, just processing a few things. So if you have an website or company names that would be of any use. Thank you for taking the time to read and hope to hear from someone soon. Any help is of great value even if its where not to go!!
  16. Can you help point me in the right direction for nice suburbs in Perth that are great for families with primary school age children but can easily access rail links to the CBD as thats where DH will be based? I have been sitting here for ages looking at rail links and surrounding areas but its so hard to tell when you have no knowledge of good or bad areas etc. So who better to ask than the guys here on PIO! From what I have read, most of us are looking for the same kinds of places to bring up our little ones so hopefully you can help advice me.:cute: Cheers POI folks! Nicky x

    Good suburbs

Hi All, Me and Gaynor r looking to make the move to WA. Our friends live in Hammond Park and we would like to locate near to them. We have looked at Atwell, Success, Yangebup and further afield at Spearwood, Armadale and Gosnells. We would appreciate any advise on any of these places, good or bad. Thanks
  18. Hi, thanks for all the replies to my queries so far from those already in Melbourne, it is very much appreciated. We are now moving to Melbourne in late April (was July) and originally liked the look of Point Cook. After speaking to some contacts in Oz my OH has discovered that the majority of jobs in his industry are in the East near Glen Waverley etc. We now need to find a suburb within a reasonable commute (30 mins) with a good primary and secondary school (willing to look at private if fees not to high) and close to facilties. We also prefer new housing, (don't mind estates as long as they have good facilites) and would like to be nearish to the coast. Budget is upto $500 for rent and upto $600,000 to buy (4 bed). Obviously this discounts anything close to the CBD so have been looking South at Lyndhurst, Cranbourne and Berwick. The secondary school is priority really so will look at renting initially in an area to get a place but will not want to move too far once we are ready to buy. Would welcome peoples opinions on these areas and any others that may be suitable. Thanks again.
  19. Hi, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post, sorry for the length. We are looking to move to Sydney and coming out in April to look at schools and areas to live. We have 2 daughters aged nearly 8 and 6, currently yr 3 and 1 in their UK school. We are looking at private girls schools as they attend a girls school in the UK and I have contacted some schools in the Sydney area with a view to looking around them when we visit in a few months time. It seems that many of the schools are oversubscribed and have long waiting lists but I'm hoping we will get some positive responses. Most of the schools we have looked in to seem to be in the North Shore so I imagine we will end up living somewhere there. I have a couple of questions..... In the UK we are able to walk to our school and our daughters friends are all quite local to us. Is this the case with the Sydney private schools or do people travel for long distances to go to school? If we lived in a suburb close to Queenwood or Pymble, what would the commute be like to the CBD? We will need to wait until we hear which schools have places (fingers crossed some will!) before we start to narrow down the areas to live, but I don't know whether to discount the schools further away or if the commute would be manageable from those areas, or perhaps there is a half way point that is accessible to both school and CBD? I'm really hoping we will have some options by the time we fly out in April and any advice or recommendations in the meantime would be really helpful. Many Thanks in advance.
  20. Hi there, My wife and I with two small children have recently moved to the Sunshine Coast and are staying with relatives. I expect to work in Brisbane and have been trying to research good suburbs between there and the Sunshine Coast (we want to stay near our baby-sitters). We were looking at North Lakes but I've heard very mixed reports and and I'm not convinced it's the kid-friendly area we're looking for. Can anyone recommend a family friendly near the beach? Thanks all

    western suburbs

Hi all Just wondering if there are any other brits living in or around the western suburbs? Seem like everybody lives either up north or down south. Were wanting to make a few new friends closer to home, were a married couple in our 30's with no kids. Love going to bars/pubs eating out and going to see live music ect. Please get in touch if you fancy meeting up some time Thanks Steve
  22. A lovely tempered long-haired grey and white cat is trying to adopt us - she's obviously well cared for and well loved but she's not microchipped and doesn't wear a collar and isn't listed on the "missing cats" list. The council can't do anything, the vet can't do anything and we're not in a position to adopt her ourselves. In the morning I'm calling the RSPCA and somewhere else they recommended in Coldstream tomorrow but the vet says it's likely she won't be rehomed even though she's very placid - didn't make a fuss about going in a cat box I borrowed from a neighbour, no fuss in the car, happy to snuggle up to the kids. I just wondered if anyone in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne might be interested in taking her on if we can't find her owner. By the way I'm using "she" as a guess - I have no idea of "her" age, sex or what jabs she might have had. Hope someone might be interested, or better still might, by complete coincidence, know of a missing pet that fits her description. Thanks Cal
  23. I Have a slight problem - but its a good one I guess - my Visa came through earlier than expected and I've been offered a job earlier than expected (in Brisbane, on Queens St) ... so whats my problem? Well having traveled across Oz in the past 3 years and decided upon Queensland/Brisbane (it was always our first choice but the additional location searching helped prove it was the right choice) I had planned on at least 2 proper visits to Brisbane to search for housing, schools etc ... that now has to be done in one trip at the end of this month so I'm ready for work in January!! So can any one help me: if you had a lovely wife, two kids aged 6 and 3, a cat, and had 10 days in Brisbane to look for a house to rent for 6-9 months while you sort the rest of your life out - which Brisbane suburbs would you start with? and which one's would you avoid? and is there an estate agent you would recommend as a "tour guide"? ... I'm not looking for perfect, just good reasons to spend 10 days of my life have a good hard look later this month. (P.S. with thanks to the previous posters on Brisbane locations elsewhere on this site, they're proving helpful as well)

    Nicer Suburbs of ACT

Hi What are the nicer suburbs of ACT and the ones that are perhaps not so nice. My daughter and her OH are doing a visit in Oct to view potential areas to live should their Visa app be successful. Regards
