  1. Hello, Forum newbie here , hoping for someone to give me the benefit of their wisdom out of the kindness of their hearts! After much google searching and the purchase of 'Living and Working in Australia' I still have a couple of questions.... My current plan is to visit Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in February before making a Skilled Indpendant Migrant 175 application . Because I know this will very likely take >18months (and I want to live and work in OZ asap!), I plan to immediately lodge a working holiday visa application. Once in Oz on the WHV visa, I want to do the 3 months 'Regional' work done (and out the way!) so as to qualify for the 2nd year WHV , so that I should be able to work as an accountant from that point on in Oz uninterupted (albeit on temporary <6month contracts whilst on WHV). My 1st question is - does anyone forsee a problem with the above? Is it possible to apply and have a 1st and 2nd WHV whilst my 175 is being processed? I understand the WHV is supposed to be for people primarily there to holiday, so I might not be looked upon favourably...... My 2nd question is more difficult - does anyone know how you go about getting assessed by a state, if say I wanted to go down the route of state sponsored? I believe the cost is the same but you get greater priority for processing? One of the things driving me to leave is there is not much work / opportunity for me in North West England, and I know Western Australia has had huge growth because of the mining / construction boom. Even though I'd Ideally like to move to Sydney, if its was easier / cheaper / better job prospects getting visa and work somewhere in Western Oz, then I will definately consider that. But I've no idea how to go about finding out if any state would be interested in my profession, can't find it on the immi.gov.au on any agents sites.... As relevant background info: I am from Liverpool UK, 28, qualified Management Accountant since June 09, been working for the same FTSE 100 UK insurance company (RSA) for the last 6 years. I'm therefore on the current SOL under management accountant. I have no kids/spouse/other dependants (its just me!) and I have no immediate relatives in Oz. The (brief) online assessments tell me I have enough points to be accepted under the Independant Skilled Migrant Visa because of age/english ability/my skill on the SOL/ number of years work experience. - as per above paragraph. I am aware of the change upcoming 1st July so if I'm gonna do this at all I need to apply asap after Feb visit! Very grateful for any help with any of the above - Sorry its so long! Mike

    Employer sponsored visa advice

My husband has been offered a job in WA for a job that isn't on either the general or state skill lists. Am I right in thinking we wouldn't qualify for a visa even though the company is happy to sponsor us? I'd appreciate any advice, I'm going round in circles here! Thanks

  5. HI Is anybody in the process of applying for or been granted the above visa for PR ? Just wondering how long they take to be granted. Looked at times but not many on and most haven't been updated. The couple I found seem to be process in 6 to 8 weeks. Immigration told my new employer it would be 8 weeks til the CO but we don't know if that is 8 weeks from his nomination being approved or 8 weeks from when my application reaches them?!?!? Emailed them but keep getting different answers! Anyone have experience of this?

  8. Hi, Has anyone recently been offered PR visa by Hospital in Sydney for nursing post. My wife received email on Friday from agency confirming she has been approved by NSW heath for Royal North Shore Hospital. However during the interview interviewers haven't discussed about the type of visa they are going to offer and also when they want the applicant to start for them so no idea what they are going to offer. As we have 7 year old son we prefer PR visa so appreciate any info from anyone who has been recently approved for nursing post in Syndey. ....Mansawant
  9. I have a question regarding an application, has my priority group been changed from 3 to 4 with the July 2011 changes? I have learned after a phone call that a case officer was allocated Aug 2011, does this make any difference? Lodged online Oct 2010 - Systems Analyst ANZSCO Code 261112 - 176 family sponsored
  10. Has anyone here received State sponsorship as a single person without any dependents?
  11. Hi all, As the title suggests I am confused about who pays for the visa when being sponsored. My boyfriend just got a potential offer for sponsorship and I have been on immi.gov looking through the visa options. It says on there about 1st and 2nd installments that need to be paid. Who pays for this? Would we pay or the nominated employer? I am an Australian Resident and my dad got job sponsored when we moved over 6 years ago. All they paid for with regards to the visa were medicals and police checks. Can anyone offer any advice? When reading through the visa 121 timeline thread I see that they have been sending IMO...i assumed this was international money orders but i thought visa class 121 was a fee free application. Confused.com Thanks in advance for any help and sorry for the ramble!
  12. Offshore 176 family sponsored, applied Oct 2010 > received general email March 2011 to send meds/police > Sept 2011 gsm team sends email requesting info > now still waiting without any updates I'm in priority group 3, should it be waiting much longer?
  13. Hi When I applied for Analyst Programmer back in August 2011, the state sponsorship for that job code was closed. However, now that is open again. I have a few questions regarding this: 1) Is it possible to move from 175 to 176, with the same application? 2) If yes, does it improve the chances of getting the application processed quicker? 3) If answer to 1 and 2 are yes, how to go about it? If the answers are NO dont bother :biglaugh: Hopefully, the DIAC guys are churning out the grants at a rapid pace... so that I can hope to get a CO assigned at least by march 2012, at the current rate... Cheers guys ind175
  14. Hi All, I am an Architectural Technologist applying for a WA state sponsored visa (subclass 176). I have had a successful skills assessment as an Architectural Draftsperson and I am now in a position to apply for my state sponsorship. The Perth area is my preferred destination, followed by the Peel region, then the Wheatbelt region My agent has sent me a questionnaire asking me to give details of where I want to move and how much money I will be taking with me etc. These questions are straightforward to answer however, I am being asked if my skills and work experience are in long-term demand in these regions and if so, what evidence do I have to show this? As part of my research, I am interested to find out if anyone knows if my skill as an Architectural Draftsperson is in demand? It is included on the WA skilled migration occupation list, but I would like to expand on this. If anyone could offer any guidance, point me in the direction of useful websites, info etc, I would be very grateful. Cheers Bren

    WA state sponsored question

I am in the process of completing the WA online application form for state sponsorship. Our intentions are 100% to settle, live and work in WA. However the potential issue I have is that my brother lives in QLD and I am paranoid that when my application is processed the people at WA will doubt my commitment to WA. I intend to be honest when completing the application and mention my brother in the family & friends in Oz field. Just wondering what peoples opinions are am I right to be concerned or just being paranoid any advice would greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Employer Sponsored - Dilemma

Hi, new member to the forum but have been lurking round for a while. I have a good job offer for a firm in Perth who are willing to sponsor me on a 457. I do not meet the GSM tests and do not have direct family in oz, so think sponsorship is my only route. After 2 years can they sponsor me for PR if my role is not on the ENSOL. I am changing role slightly (broad industry experience got me the job) so my current occupation would not be relevant at that time. There are 2 close categories but in my opinion not exact and thats it. Question is can an employer sponsor pr for role not on the ENSOL? I am getting really confused :err: and want to make decision on job this weekend so any help would be appreciated. Thanks Richie
  20. If you are a diesel mechanic, I know of a company that is looking for them and willing to sponsor them. The job would be located in Hazelmere, Perth, Western Australia. Please send me a PM if interested and I will pass on the name of the person at the company whom you should contact. Sandra
  21. Hi all, I'm looking at emigrating to Oz and want to apply for permanent residency. My dilema is whether to go for a skilled visa or a family sponsored one. I work in IT as a Network Security Engineer (which is of the skills shortage list) and have over 5 years experience in this area. I also have a sister that could sponsor me as she is married to an Aussie and lives over there as a Permanent Resident in Melbourne. I think I have the points to do it either way, so the question really is which would be easier / quicker? An important factor is that I (and my wife) would want to live and work in Sydney, whilst my sister lives in Melbourne. Do you have to live in the same City / State as the person who sponsors your Visa (if you go down that road?) As I said, I would prefer to do the application myself rather than pay for an agency. Many thanks in advance, Jocky
  22. Hello, I am hoping to secure an employer sponsored temporary visa and in preparation for that have sat my IELTS exam which I did not need for my skills assessment but understand will need for the visa itself. I received an email informing that my skills assessment was processed and hope to receive my official letter shortly. And then I can start applying for jobs, yay! I am a social worker and have been in touch with prospective employers who in general are positive about sponsoring, but I was wondering whether it would be useful to frontload the medicals and police checks to better my chances. Is that possible for the 457 visa? I was hoping that it might make me more interesting to those who would have to sponsor me when I can explain that I have all necessary documentation ready to start the visa process, ie they would not have to wait for ages to me to get the visa granted before I can actually start work. I believe the medicals are valid for one year only but we sincerely hope to get the visa process started in the next few months. Is there only one standard option for medical checks at one of the listed doctors or are there differences according to visa or occupation group? And how does it work with the police checks, is there a specific visa related form or would I apply for a CRB? I have tried to find some information on this on the official immigrations sites but was unsuccessful... Thanks for your help! Mel
  23. 28 occupations have been added to the SSML. Some occupations were removed from the previous list and now are available for “Off-List”* nomination. Hope this opens up doors for those waiting for an opportunity http://www.migration.sa.gov.au/sa/immigrate_from_overseas/state_migration_plan_south_australia.jsp
  24. My husband would be the main applicant, I have family in australia (dad, step mum, 3 brothers), Could we use this to apply for a family sponsored skilled visa or not as they are my family and not my husbands? ALSO: Which of these visa's would give a quicker/easier entry to OZ? Im struggling to find pro's/con's for both! Any advice would be great
  25. Hi I'm sure there are some wise members of the forum out there who may be able to help. Me, my OH & 2 children (12 & 14) are hoping to migrate to Perth. I've been told that as an experienced Midwife I should be able to secure employer sponsorship to get to Perth sooner than the whole independant visa route. Im not sure though wether I should start the whole independant/state sponsorship route just in case employer sponsorship doesn't happen. I know there are considerable costs associated with an independant visa which have the money to pay for but will I loose it if I end up getting a sponsor midway through the process.? Am confused, any help or people who have had similar experiences would really appreciate your input. Kind regards Kirstie
