  1. Hi I moved to Rockingham 6 months ago and am finding it hard to meet new friends being a single 40 something. If anyone is interested in meeting up would love to hear from you
  2. We have been here some 15 months orgianlly in response to a advert for childcare workers due to skills shortages but the post was removed from the shortage list last sept, so now doing another course, im a FM with 20 years multi portfolio experiance and my wife a procurement speclist and six sigma holder, we have applied for jobs more than we care to count, almost daily, but not a single interview in 15 months, we require a sponser which seems to be a major problem, dispite the sponsered route being actively promoted by migration agents. we are flexible and will consider anywhere, recruitment agents here are less then professional in that they dont even reply to emails, and are very negitive, also far less procative then in the UK. we just need some one to be more helpful and possitve as well as be able to understand the requirements when they discuss with their clients anyone got any ideas!!!!!

    Single wage.

To all who are living in South Australia especially, can a family survive on one wage. OH is worried that he wouldn't be able to support us on one wage, he's a plumber and our youngest will be about 4 when we move. I'm hoping to find something part-time until she goes to school, is it possible to live on apprentice wages until he gets his licence etc?? We know about the costs for the relocation etc and the renting side of things and we will be bringing as much furniture as we can (so we don't incur any other costs for a while at least) and we intend to arrive just before our container does so we don't have a long wait for our stuff. Is it feasible?? Has anyone else done it (especially plumber's families out there)?? Thanks and appreciate your time. Helenx

  11. Hi, emigrating to WA arriving 02 July. Got job as Mental Health Social Worker and will be living in Fremantle at least initially. Any other Gay brits on here wanna chat? Cheers Andy from Jersey Channel Islands and before that Ipswich England!
  12. I hear from a lot of people on the website that Perth is great if you have a family, but i have not heard much from single people migrating there. I am 28 and single and would like to know what there is in Perth for single people. I have been one of the lucky ones who recieved their visa days before the new changes, but the visa i got is the 176 state sponsored skilled independent visa so i am stuck in WA for 2 years.

  15. This is a bit random but does anyone know if it is possible to send over a single piece of furntiure to Oz and if so how would I do it? We are selling all that we own as it is not worth the amount to ship over, however I have an old chair, prob about 100years old, worthless, but was my great grandma's chair. It is just a lovely piece of furniture and the only thing I am really sad about parting with. I obviously wouldn't sell it, I would just give it back to whichever family member wanted it, but tbh I would really like to take it with me! It isn't very big, not really even sure what sort of chair it is? Anyway, is there anyway I can send it across? Can you send large wooden boxes across? (That may be a really simple and silly question - but I just don't know?!) If so we could put a few other items in the box? Anyway any suggestions/help would be much appreciated!! Thanks in advance!
  16. If you can put it down to one (single) thing that made you decide to go home what would it be? I not asking for a list of things you don't like about aus, just one thing that if you could have changed would have possibly made you stay. For me it was the social life (or lack of) I crave social interaction and i prefer it on neutral ground (not peoples back gardens). I like to spontaniously think hmmmm i fancy a few beers with so snd so then in 15mins be supping a beer with them. If i could have done that in aus i might still be there today. Sausages, supermarkets and all that nonsense don't bother me much but my social life is everything. What about you?
  17. Hi All I'm moving to Queensland in August and would love some help nailing down a list of suburbs/towns that meet my needs. I work from home so don't need to commute but am single so REALLY do not want to be cut off from the world... Here are more facts. * I would like to keep 1-3 horses on my property * Would love to be near an equestrian centre, adjistment or Adult Riding Club * I would like to be able to drive to Brisbane CBD within 45 -60 mins * I wish to be in a community with vibrant life, cafes, bars, local shops... * Bush is more important to me than Beach (though both would be amazing) * Would like to live in an affluent environment * No budget limitations * Would be great to be a short drive from a train station (to go out on the town) Many thanks in advance, I can't wait to see your recommendations. Cheers all
  18. Hi All Dilemma - I'm a 29 year old, female accountant. Looking to move to either Sydney or Melbourne in the next 6 months. Sponsorship is not a problem I just need to decide where I want to live and wondered if some of you experienced Poms in Oz had any thoughts? I'm a country girl who has embraced the city girl lifestyle (but hate London - too dirty & faceless), love meeting girlie friends for drinks/coffee, dinner out, shopping, live music, not a huge clubber but partial to an occasional cheesy disco after a few G&Ts. Love modern, contemporary style and I'm attracted to a cosmopolitan atmosphere. I immediately thought of Sydney but I'm worried it could be too much like London. I'm coming alone so I want to meet loads of people and make new friends. Any thoughts on which I should pick? Or any thoughts of pros/cons for either city? Thanks muchly in advance for any advice! Laura x:smile:

    Single Expat Funding

Hi, not sure if this is the correct area to post this but basically I want to know how much roughly it will cost as a guide to how much il need to focus on building together. It would be for One male. Rough guidence on flights, regardless of destination eg 800-1100 for example Immediate accom after landing to settle for a week Then a monthly plan rental, in accordance to finding an income Then the smaller costs, car rental, any expenses that would crop up, best companys to contact for a visa etc Fairly new to it all so any input would be great. Apologies if a similar post has been covered already Rob

    Visa query for single teacher

Hi there, my brother is a teacher in Scotland where there are no jobs. He misses our kids so I am trying to persuade him to consider looking here for teaching positions. He spent a year in Australia 10 years ago on a 12 month working visa and thinks that he wouldn't be able to get another 12 month visa, but without sponsorship, how would he go about getting a permanent visa? Thanks for any and all help!

    Am i mad??

Hi everyone, I was wondering whether i'm totally mad. I'm planning on moving out to Australia in September on a Working Holiday Visa, i'm 24 years old, single and will be going out there alone. I don't have a job to go to, and am wondering with the current economic climate whether its a good idea. I'm hoping to be working more than i would be holiday-ing so ideally am looking to get a job... I've just been made redundant from my job as a graphic designer here in london and have heard that things aren't any better out there.......SO, am i mad? It would be great to have an insight into the job situation out there....thanks sooo much

  24. Hi All, I have just arrived in Perth (had 6 weeks travelling first). I am 30 something and don't really know anyone in Perth, I would love to hear from other people who have moved out to Perth from the Uk. Am I the only single person that has emigrated? I am not doing a great job of it so far but early days. Must admit to being rather daunted, especially if I can't find work, guess it will be home to mum with my tail between my legs. Look forward to hearing from anyone. Thanks, Cara
  25. Hi well where to start....... I'm a single mum to a gorgeous little girl who is 3, I really want to move to Oz for a better quality of life, relaxed friendly atmosphere, better climate, and really just for a better life for my daughter than what England has to offer! Has anyone else done this? Or thinking of doing it? I don't even know where to start and I am also very worried that my daughters father will stop me out of spite! He has not seen her since she was 5 weeks old, walked out on us both and has never seen her. I've had no contact at all now for 3 years. Does anyone have any advice? Confused and a bit lost.....
