    Travelling via Singapore

OK I’m about to book my flight via Singapore airlines and reading visa requirements because we are part of the commonwealth and I am a transit passenger I don’t need a visa to enter Singapore, is that correct? The flight I want to book only has a 14 or 18 hr stop over, so rather than sleeping in the airport hotel I would like to use the time to my advantage, is it far away from the airport into the CBD what cost would I be looking at etc Cheers in advance Geoffrey
  2. Anyone with experience of getting extra baggage allowance from Singapore Airlines? They told us to send an email with copies of our visa, which we have done, but their reply says we still have to get the visas looked at when we check in, so does not give us a definitive answer. Obviously we do not want to risk incurring fees for extra baggage and wondered how anyone else has dealt with this? Thanks
  3. Thinking about booking flights with Singapore Airlines and was wondering what the A380 was like? Can anyone help? Thanks Emma :wubclub:
  4. We are looking at booking our one way flights for next april may and want to stop of for a night and couple of days and are not sure which is best Singapore or Hong Kong, it will be me, my husband and our daughter who will be nearly 3 then. Was looking for peoples advice on good hotels and also opinions on which is a better stop over with a young child? Thanks
  5. Hello again all, so our flight to start our new life is heading out monday , we decided as we have small children to break it down into 2 smaller trips. We have 16 hours in Singapore so we planned to take advantage of the free tours and experience the city, then head back to the intransit hotel for a 6 hour kip. We noticed the website for the intransit hotel says please do not clear customs as you will miss the hotel, so we are wondering how do we get out to see the city then back in? maybe im just misinterpriting or being silly but i cant find out any info , any simular experiences? and advise on singapore? thanks
  6. We are flying over at the end of November. My husband is a wheelchair user and we are staying for a couple of nights in Dubai and Singapore to split the journey up. Has anybody stopped over in these two places. We need a hotel that is in a district where I can walk to facilities. I know the train in Singapore is not w'chair friendly and it is best to use the taxis. I have been to Singapore a couple of times quite a number of years ago and at that time, I would not have been looking at it as being conducive to access with a w'chair. Thanks

    Singapore Airlines 1st Sept?

Hi all, Very excited, sad, nervous etc etc because we fly out to Melbourne (via Singapore for 3 days) tomorrow for good! We are leaving from Heathrow on Singapore Airlines at 10 in the evening. Anyone else going to be on the flight? Best wishes to you all and hope to see some of you on the plane or in Melbourne! Love Claire, Dave and Leonora
  8. We are thinking about having a stop over in Singapore for a few days, just wondering what is there to do for a family? I would like to go to Changi POW camp, I'm sure the kids would love Universal studios and Tracy ANY market selling crap..... Anyone been to any of these? Any advice???? Or are there far better things to do with our time? Also is there anything worth buying? At the minute it's looking like we will be there for 2 1/2 days. Thanks in advance Geoffrey :wubclub:

    Emirates or Singapore???

Really need to book our flights to Melbourne we want to leave in October. Can anyone advise me on which airline? Have never done the Dubai route usually fly Singapore and have found them excellent. Our problem is baggage allowance, we have already validated our visa it has no stamp on it and the travel agents said they won't notice but I think they may notice the Initial entry by march 09! I rang Singapore and they can offer 40kg if your visa has not been stamped but to my knowledge this can not be confirmed before you show your visa at check in. I so would not like to turn up with double allowance and be charged! Any advice please?
  10. Hi We are looking at booking our one way tickets to perth in Nov 2010 and are contemplating one of the above airlines. We are also looking at a stopover in Bangkok/Singapore or KL for 3/4 nights. Any suggestions / thoughts are more than welcome Cheers Balman
  11. Just wanted to feed back on our SQ flt experience with you. Had never flown before with SQ but can assure you we definitely would again if the chance came up. From start to finish of the booking of the flights.. to airport check-in and the flight... top marks the whole way. Customer service, polite, friendly and helpful, nothing too much and great with the kids. LL
  12. Howdy, i was just wondering if anybody out there has managed to get more than the 20kg limit on your luggage? We're flying with Singapore Airlines & unfortunately we've already validated our visa's so we don't qualify for the 'double allowance' that you get on using an un-validated visa. we're hoping to get an extra 5kgs each but not too confident really, is there anyone whose managed to get anything out of them & if so how did you go about it? Thanks in advance Karl. P.S = flying out in two weeks to start our new life!! Woo-Hoo!!

    Singapore I love it

We are in Singapore stopover and fly home to Melbourne on Friday. I just love this place, so organised, so clean and tidy. Blend of the old with the new have got it just right. Provide jobs for everyone, menial tasks done by humans, what a change from our silly sytem replace everything with machines. Yet Singapore leaves us for dead in most things. Same with lots of the Asian countries like Taiwan one of the top medical systems in the world. How they must have a laugh at us thinking how good we are:laugh:
  15. Does anyone know how can I use the mileages that I have been collecting through a Singapore Airlines Krisflyer credit card? I have almost 10,000 miles on it, but a little unsure how can I make the most of it. Is it only for upgrades or can it be used to reduce the price of airline tickets?
  16. Hey there, i am flying on 1st Aug on the A380 to Melbourne. I booked my seats on the upper deck and choose our seats. I was wondering what you are given on the flight. I was interested in buying those neck pillows but thought they might be given to us on the flight, anyone know?? Gillian:wubclub:
  17. Anyone with kids about 5 and 8 that have stopped off at Hong Kong, I was wondering how you found it, also was interested to know any ones thoughts on flying Cathay Pacific compared to Singapore Airlines. We did make out reccie trip via Singapore but we feel maybe we should this time go to Hong Kong as the chances of getting the opportunity to do that sort of trip again are pretty slim. Any thoughts, ideas experiences that you have had with the airlines and both countries would be most welcome.

  19. Does anybody know of this offer? We are in Singapore for 18 hours and want to go into the city. Can you hop on and off this tour? Thanks in advance. Tracey
  20. This has been in the wings for a little while,it's good news, another low cost carrier into Asia is good for people who want to stopover in Asia on their way to Europe, and Jetstar has the advantage of being backed by Qantas and having access to codeshares with them. It's a good move I reckon. Jetstar to launch Singapore to Melbourne services

  23. Hi Because of our visa type we're allowed 50kg of baggage each when we fly to Australia, however if we choose to have a stopover with Singapore airlines do we not get this allowance? I'm sure i've read on a thread ages ago that if you break up the journey you lose the 50kgs, any help greatly appreciated! x

    Baby food in Singapore

We leave for Sydney in 2 weeks where we have a stop over in Singapore. Our baby is only 8 months so I'm wondering what to do re baby food after we land in Singapore. Can I pack some jars in my case? I've heard your not allowed to carry food. Does anyone have any experience of buying baby food jars in Singapore? Are they easy to get hold of? I think I'd prefer to go the jar route as we'll be eating out so won't have access to a blender! TIA!
